Scarlett Johansson, Before and After

The beauty evolution of the 'Lost in Translation' star.

Scarlett Johansson may have blonde hair and green eyes, but she's far from generic.

In fact, I've always considered her to be one of the most unique beauties in Hollywood. I don't know about you, but I've never seen anyone else with quite the same look!

But that got me wondering. Was it really possible to win the genetic lottery and end up with this particular combination of features?

I think you'll be surprised to see her transformation!

First up is this pic circa 1997 when Scarlett was just 12 years old. I know it's weird to talk about anything beauty-related on a 12-year-old, but this very clearly shows her original nose. Also, notice the lips—they were always super-plump. Damn, girl.

At age 17, I don't think anything had changed—yet. Scarlett's nose isn't quite as wide here, but I think she was just growing into it. (It's still not the same nose she has today, though!) Already, her eyes are quite mesmerizing, and her lips are enviably full.

Also from 2001, this was probably one of Scarlett's first red carpets. With more makeup, she's looking fairly close to the Scarlett we know today. No matter what her nose shape, you can already tell she's going to be a knockout.

Here's another photo that was definitely pre-rhinoplasty. She had a nose ring back then... and was apparently into orange.

A little-known fact is that Scarlett was briefly a redhead, in 2002. This was when she really started to experiment... with mixed results!

Oh yes, once upon a time, Scarlett had a mullet. She actually does pull it off, weird as this haircut may be. Her nose seems a little smaller here, but gets even tinier a few years later—so it's possible that she had multiple rhinoplasties, not just one.

Speaking of weird hairstyles... I never thought I'd see her in ringlets, doll lashes and hot pink lip gloss. But yep, that's definitely Scarlett under there (and a different nose!).

Scarlett in 2004

At age 20, Scarlett went platinum blonde, a shade that truly brings out her star quality. As you can see, her nose is just that little bit more prominent here than it is in later years.

Remember this phase, when Scarlett was all about the old Hollywood waves and low-cut dresses? She was 21 here, and SO pretty.

Her look became even more exaggerated the following year. With the plunging neckline, most people weren't looking at her face here! But if you do, you'll see a definite difference in her nose, compared to 2001.

Then, Scarlett lifted her hair to this extreme light blonde... I'm not a fan! But you can see how the styling keeps improving. Shortly after this, she actually threatened legal action against Us Weeky's allegations that she had plastic surgery. Hmmm...

I love this picture. How gorgeous does Scarlett look in red lipstick?! She's obviously had some cosmetic dental work since she was a 12-year-old, as her teeth were not this straight or even back then.

Scarlett in 2009

Most people don't realize (or remember) that Scarlett is quite the hair chameleon. Briefly in 2009, she was a deep, rich brunette. With the vintage-inspired hair and makeup—not to mention her new nose—it gives her a completely different look!

Texture was a big deal in the early '10s, so Scarlett ditched the brunette and rocked this messy, frizzy 'do with a more natural-looking blonde hue. The makeup is perfection.

Who could forget Scarlett's bob? She was ahead of the trend by a few years!

Within a year, Scarlett had grown out the bob and added some subtle blonde Ombré to the ends. This is reminiscent of her old Hollywood style era, but modernized with a braid and a vampier lipstick.

Scarlett always looks so stunning with her hair off her face. Here we can see that the nose reshaping was subtle, retaining the overall basic shape.

Update: Scarlett in 2014

Scarlett's style got more relaxed in 2014; by this time, she was 30. The hair is soft and the makeup is super-natural.

Update: Scarlett in 2015

Talk about a radical change! Just like that, Scarlett chopped off her long locks, and bleached them white-blonde. This puts even more focus on her uniquely beautiful features and flawless skin.

In 2016, she switched things up a bit, growing out the cut and trading in the platinum for a natural honey blonde. The cat eye looks incredible on her!

Update: Scarlett in 2017

That brings us to 2017—and a renewed commitment to short hair by Scarlett (she buzzed off the sides again). I can't say I'm a fan of her new, "tough" look!

I think we can all agree that Scarlett was gorgeous before, and didn't NEED to make surgical changes. But in this case, the subtle refining of her nose paid off. It simply enhanced what she already had, instead of making her look like a different person.

"It is true that the changes to her nose are extremely subtle," says Dr. Jeffrey Rawnsley. "But I believe they are there. Scarlett's work is certainly minimal, but it should belong on a list of the best nose surgeries ever done on a celebrity."

That's because Scarlett's other features are very delicate—so narrowing her nose, and making it less bulbous, created more balance.

"The biggest difference is in the bridge," says Rawnsley. "Her original bridge was thick, leading all the way up to her brow. The new bridge is distinctly thinner and definitely goes well with her other features. The tip of her nose was rather bulbous, giving it the unfortunately named 'piggy look' when combined with the thick bridge. Very little work was done on the tip, however. Just small changes to refine it were used and the shape itself wasn’t changed at all."

Clearly, her surgeon is incredibly skilled to produce this "you, only better" result! Do you agree?
