Is anyone more elegant on the red carpet these days than Jessica Chastain? Such a classic, almost regal beauty. I'm always excited to see what glamorous new way she's done her hair and makeup and this time, it was waves brushed straight back off her face with a tawny pink lipstick and cheeks. Both seem to pick up the colour of her hair, although the lips were actually a blotted-down fuchsia, believe it or not!
Here's the close-up. I'm not crazy about the lashes, but they serve to dress up her face without there needing to be a ton of makeup here:
The artist behind this was Kristofer Buckle, who was going for iconic, glowing, glamour.
He started with Yves Saint Laurent Le Teint Touche Éclat Illuminating Foundation SPF 19 in B10 to perfect her complexion. This is the lightest shade (for fair complexions with light peach beige undertones) in YSL's newest foundation range, which was inspired by their classic Touche Éclat pen. It's a weightless fluid with illuminating properties, plus you get the addition of SPF 19 protection.
Then, he used Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat in #1, Luminous Radiance (for fair to light complexions with pink undertones) to provide additional cover for any remaining imperfections and to lighten the area around the eyes.
On her cheeks is Yves Saint Laurent Blush Radiance Matte & Satin Blush in #4:
The eyeshadow is kept very neutral with Yves Saint Laurent Ombres 5 Lumières in Tawny. Looks like the centre shade was used the most.
Kristofer gave Jessica's top lashes three coats of Yves Saint Laurent Singulier Waterproof Mascara in Black (although we know he used false lashes too!). He says he only applied it on the top to give her a sultry, doe-eyed look.
I was really surprised to find out the lipstick shade, because it definitely reads a little brownish in the photos. It's Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture in Fuchsia, blotted down for that soft finish. (Maybe Sofia Vergara can get on this blotting technique?)
Here's how it all came together (the only thing I'd change are less dramatic false lashes). Also notice the hair, because we're gonna go through that next!
I know a few of us weren't so keen on the brushed-back style, but doesn't it look a lot nicer from this angle? "Jessica wanted her hair off of her face and wavy," says hairstylist Oribe, who was the man behind the look.
He started by finger-combing Oribe Grandiose Hair Plumping Mousse through her damp hair for texture and easy movement.
He added Oribe Thick Dry Finishing Spray for extra fullness before giving her a smooth blowout.
To protect her hair from heat, he sprayed in Oribe Soft Lacquer Heat Styling Spray before curling section by section with a two-inch curling iron to create soft waves.
Next, it was time for teasing. After spraying Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray at the roots, Oribe back-combed the hair at the crown and around her face to create the glamorous, swept-back shape.
To set, he misted with Oribe Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray for flexible hold and humidity protection.
