Q: How does a mature woman with wrinkles a) find a good tinted moisturizer or liquid foundation, and b) apply it properly?

I'm not trying to make wrinkles disappear, but I don't want them accentuated. Any recommendations would be appreciated! — Beth

A: Beth, I find that older women don’t tend to need too much coverage, and a heavier foundation will just settle into fine lines.

Instead, I would try using something lighter and in an all-in-one product, such a BB or CC cream. You will get some skincare benefits and a lightweight tinted moisturizer in one tube.

It’s a misconception that you need to apply your foundation to your entire face.

My tip is to just apply it in your T-zone area: your forehead, nose, chin and the tops of the cheeks.

Concentrate your foundation in the T-zone.

I would avoid any areas where you tend to have more wrinkles, such as around the eyes, lips and lower cheeks.

This will also ensure that your makeup looks light and not mask-like. Just make sure the colour is a perfect match for your skin!

The product I recommend most is Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream SPF 35, which is available in eight shades.

Also, whenever someone's looking for makeup but isn't sure which type or brand is best, I always recommend going to a store like Sephora. The staff are so helpful and knowledgeable and can help you navigate all the options. And they also provide you with samples (bonus!).
