Guys' Choice Awards 2014: The Best Celebrity Beauty Looks on the Red Carpet

Lily Aldridge, Jessica Alba and more.

Whether or not you're a guy, you can still appreciate the gorgeousness coming out of the 2014 Guys' Choice Awards, held on Sunday night.

My votes for best hair and makeup go to Lily Aldridge and Nina Agdal—although it's hardly fair, 'cuz they're models.

Have a browse through the red carpet close-ups and then let me know who YOU think looks great!

Lily Aldridge

Toldja it wasn't fair. Between those cheekbones, those brows and that hair, Lily would be stunning no matter what—but I'm giving her top spot this time for wowing me with her makeup creativity. It's somewhat subtle, but can you see how she added warm burgundy tones at the outer corners of her eyelids, well above the crease? They harmonize with her blush and her lipstick, for a very glam, sophisticated look. I'm usually a strict red lips, bare eyes kind of girl, but this has me rethinking things for evening at least. Too Faced's The Chocolate Bar Eye Palette has a lot of these tones. Try Tom Ford Lip Color in Cherry Lush for a similar bright red with the slightest hint of blue.

Should we talk about her hair as well?! I love her waves, and how they start low—below her chin—and gently flip out. Her soft Ombré-effect highlights are masterful, too.

Nina Agdal

Here's one of the best examples I've seen of that '80s hair trick I keep yapping about lately. Look at the front of her hair and how it lifts right up with tons of volume before cascading down on one side, in a mass of beachy curls (though you don't need the curls in order to do this). The hair on the other side of the part is brushed back with volume, too. Both of these things make anyone look instantly more model-esque. Try it!

As for Nina's makeup, it's a nude colour scheme—but a really great one. She looks a bit bronzey, but not overdone, and there's a lovely highlight at the centre of her face, without being obvious about it. Also notice the way her shadow sculpts her eyes and makes them look more feline. Amazing!

Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba at the 2014 Guys' Choice Awards.

After the Met Gala, where I felt Jessica looked a bit too contrived, I was hoping she'd get back to her usual effortless sexiness. Alas, it didn't happen here. This looks like a bit too much makeup, and the foundation doesn't seem to be quite a match. If the lipstick seems familiar, it's because it resembles the one she wore at the People's Choice Awards (it was Lancôme Rouge in Love in Fall in Rose). I think this look would've been improved by taking away the false lashes.

Oh well, at least her brows look excellent. And her sleek, straight hair, too! This is a great colour for her; very JLo circa when JLo was someone to emulate.

Jaime King

Jaime King at the 2014 Guys' Choice Awards.

Jessica Alba wasn't the only one to try heavy black eyeshadow at this event. Jaime King got in on the action as well. I think Jaime's makeup comes across as a deliberate choice, to go with the formality of the bejewelled dress and earrings. I actually don't have any issues with it, since it's balanced nicely by the beautiful fresh skin and bare lips—although my personal preference is for a lighter touch. Gotta mix it up sometimes, right? And at least we're not seeing the sooty under-eyes that have made a lot of stars look like they haven't slept in a week. (See: Elisabeth Moss.)

One thing that does slightly bother me, however, is Jaime's hair colour. Or I should say hair colourS. Maybe it's just the lighting, but I'm seeing some weird brassy tones mixed in with the platinum.

Jaime is wearing: Foundation // Powder and Blush in Final Cut // Eyeshadow in Sycorax // Eyeliner in Black Ink // Mascara in Black // Brow powder in Blonde // Lip balm

Olivia Munn

Olivia Munn at the 2014 Guys' Choice Awards.

The poster girl for wearing your freckles loud and proud is Olivia Munn, and she never seems to make a misstep with her makeup. Here we have another sheer skin finish, complimented by rosy blush and shimmery multi-tonal eyes. Have you noticed how Olivia wears a lot of metallics on her eyes? She's a wonderful example there, too, of how you can create dimension and drama without heavy lines or dark colours. I think Guerlain palettes are amazing to work with in this respect; the Écrin 6 Couleurs in Rue de Sèvres has great shades.

Olivia hair's is getting longer these days, and here she chose to wear it with a simple centre part. If you saw my bang recommendations for round faces, there are a few styles there that would be cute on her as well.

Chrissy Teigen

Chrissy Teigen at the 2014 Guys' Choice Awards.

Speaking of round faces, here's Chrissy Teigen having a rare big-hair moment. It's like, REALLY big. I think she looks kind of adorable—and hey, the best thing about her face type is that aging will be a breeze. I love her hair here; she absolutely nailed the whole texture thing. I feel like maybe her highlights could be a touch more tone-on-tone.

As for the makeup, it's also nice to see something warmer and brighter on her for a change, since we've been treated to so very many neutral looks for so long. I like the idea of matching your blush tone to your lip tone in a soft, orangey coral. For the lips, I recommend Estée Lauder Pure Color LipShine in Mandarine; Shiseido's Luminizing Satin Face Color in Starfish is the perfect apricot for cheeks.

Emily Ratajkowski

Emily Ratajkowski at the 2014 Guys' Choice Awards.

Emily Ratajkowski went super-simple for this red carpet, and the results were great. (Again, she's got a genetic leg up on the rest of us.) What I love here the most are her brows. She has fantastic fans at the inner corners; my goodness! The sleek, centre-parted straight hair is pretty, too, especially with the shorter face-framing pieces at the front.

Makeup-wise, I'm really glad she kept things extremely matte, as it keeps her looking very modern. One glossy lip and the whole thing would be off, you know what I mean? As with Nina Adgal, it's all about the careful blending around the eyes. I love this for a brow-centric beauty look; I would copy the entire thing!

Lauren Cohan

Lauren Cohan at the 2014 Guys' Choice Awards.

I think this is Lauren Cohan's blog debut, and to celebrate the occasion I will applaud her choice of lip colour. It looks SO much like Sonia Kashuk's Lip & Cheek Tint in Enchanted, which is such an amazing product that I even forgive its wonky brush. (I'm serious; go buy it. It's one of the best pink stains I've ever had.)

I'm not as into Lauren's hair, unfortunately. I like the idea of the waves, but they definitely need brushing out and then a bit of smoothing serum, like the Fekkai PrX Reparatives Mending Elixir.

Rihanna at the 2014 Guys' Choice Awards.

An in-show shot of Rihanna looking the best she has in a long, long time. Can we have more of this please? Natural, curly hair and nude makeup look fantastic on her.

Laura Vandervoort

Laura Vandervoort at the 2014 Guys' Choice Awards.

I always think blondes need to be cautious when wearing red lipstick with dark eye makeup, and Laura Vandervoort is demonstrating this problem extremely well. With such a bright, strong colour on the mouth—not to mention its shiny texture—you can end up looking très tacky if you pair it with bold eyes. I would've liked to see her red lipstick with either just plain black on the eyes, in a simpler, softer, clean liquid liner flick and mascara—or the red lipstick with the soft wash of the lavender shadow, like Lily Aldridge.

No issues with the hair except that it might've saved this look if she'd worn it slicked back in a bun and tight to the head. That's one way to look more "runway" when wearing heavy makeup.

Rosario Dawson

This shot's slightly blurry but I think you can still see that even with her half-shaved head, Rosario Dawson looks pretty great. Do we know if that was for a role? I must say, she wears it well—although it would personally drive me crazy to be limited by hair only on one side. Her brows are looking good; yet another example of a celeb letting her fans out at the inner corners.

Cameron Diaz

Cameron Diaz at the 2014 Guys' Choice Awards.

Here's an in-show shot of Cameron Diaz, who we haven't seen in a long, long time. (Not since last year's Met Gala, to be exact.) I am a fan. Her hair may not be doing anything impressive here, but she looks really well—simple and natural.

Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock at the 2014 Guys' Choice Awards.

Last shot is of Sandra Bullock, and I feel like she's getting way much filler in her cheeks these days!. (I know she works out a lot, so it may be the "ass versus face" conundrum... I would always choose face!)
