Jessica Chastain Proves Redheads Can Wear Red Lipstick

Consider this pinky-red lip shade, paired with glam eyes and glowing skin.

With all the hoopla over the Toronto International Film Festival, there was a film fest around the same time—in Deauville, France—that many of us probably missed.

But Jessica Chastain's appearance there, as the guest of honour, deserves our beauty focus. (And also fashion, because I adore the saturated pink of her Oscar de la Renta dress. Why was there ever that rule about redheads not being able to wear pink?!)

Above the neck, I'm not so crazy about her bangs, but I sure do love her in a red lipstick.

I think the reason this red works is because it's more intense and a cooler tone than her hair colour, so she doesn't have a matchy-matchy thing going on with her lips and hair.

Makeup artist Lloyd Simmonds, who is also creative director for YSL Beauté, created this look and it was all about the glamorous "film star" pout, paired with bold eyes and glowing skin. I present you the close-up...

See the sparkly beige at the inner corners of her eyes? That's a trend that just won't quit lately. Also notice the tightlining and softly smudged definition all the way around the eyes.

To create this look, Lloyd started with the new Fusion Ink Foundation in B20 Ivory.

He also covered imperfections and lightened dark areas around the eyes with the classic Touche Éclat in 2 Luminous Ivory.

Next, he applied Kiss & Blush in 08 Pink Hedoniste to the cheeks for a soft flush.

On Jessica's eyes, Lloyd used the Dessin du Regard Waterproof Eye Pencil in 2 Patent Leather very close to the lashes.

For shadow, he chose the Beige and Golden Brown from the Fétiche Couture Collector Eyeshadow Palette for fall 2014. (Can't tell if this is already selling out or just not available yet, so if you can't find it, try the Couture Palette in Couleurs 2, 3 or 4.)

He then coated her lashes with Volume Effet Faux Cils Shocking Mascara.

The finishing touch was the pinky-red lipstick, new Rouge Pur Couture The Mats in 208 Fuchsia Fétiche. If you can't find this shade, try 203 Rouge Rock

As you'll notice on Jessica, the finish is soft, not super-matte. And these pinky-reds are great not only for redheads, but also as a fun alternative to classic reds for fall (also see: Hailee Steinfeld). Your thoughts?
