Q: I've been thinking about getting a completely new haircut and/or colour, but I have no idea what I should do. My hair is naturally dark brown, wavy and kind of frizzy sometimes.

Starleen has naturally dark brown, wavy hair.

I want something that will give me an overall better appearance and complement my skin tone. Thanks! — Starleen

Starleen wants a cut and colour that will complement her skin tone.

A: Starleen, cool—never heard your name ever...

I personally think you have perfect hair as is, but I have a few suggestions for fantasy change and styling ideas.

This classic cut would suit you and work well with your natural texture:

Keira Knightley at the 2011 premiere of 'A Dangerous Method'.

I would keep your current dark colour with this option.

Wearing this cut a little looser will be less edgy, and super-pretty:

A long bob hairstyle with subtle Ombré colour.

To add to the softness, some delicate highlights and lighter ends will be a great summer look for you.

This would be a fantastic dramatic change for you:

Keira Knightley at the 2005 Moet & Chandon Fashion tribute.

Taking it down to a short cut and with the tips coloured caramel to show off the new texture and layers.

When growing the short cut out, you could sport this shorter bob with the grown-out coloured ends:

Haley Bennett at the 2009 Teen Vogue Young Hollywood party.

The second shot of your loose hair inspired me to add barrettes to your styling repertoire. Keeping your natural texture with a deep side-swept fringe, secured to stay out of your face, would rock:

Side-swept bangs secured with a barrette.

This is an "un-styled" style that looks effortless, yet packs a visual punch for your personal style.

Another super-cool new way to approach the barrette:

The hair look at Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2012.

This is super-elegant...

Jennifer Lopez at a 2011 Golden Globes after-party.

This is a bang that would be perfect for you—it will work with your hair and not overpower your face:

Olivia Wilde at the 2011 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards.

This is also a tone I figure would work well with your skin.

I hope you find inspiration within this selection…
