These Marc Jacobs Eyeshadow Pencils are the Best Thing Ever

Creamy, shimmery colours in portable form. Yesss!

Marc Jacobs Twinkle Pop Eye Stick in Volver

A long time ago—circa 2011, to be more exact—I would mention my love for this one eyeshadow that Dior used to make called Undressed Beige. It was a waterproof cream, in a little pot, and just the ultimate neutral, shimmery champagne colour that would stay put forever and ever. I'm still perplexed as to why Dior thought it would be a good idea to discontinue it. Isn't that always the way? Though Stila's Kitten Smudge Crayon was somewhat close, I'm still hoarding two half-used pots because nothing I tried was quite the same, or as non-creasing.

Until now, that is. There's a new contender from Marc Jacobs and I think it might be even better than the Dior—gasp!

Not only do the Marc Jacobs Twinkle Pop Eye Sticks come in that perfect shimmery nude, but there are eight other shades—AND they're mega-easy to apply, thanks to this pencil format:

Because that's the thing about cream eyeshadow in a pot. Applying it with a brush doesn't usually quite work, since it's so dense. You have to get in there with your fingers, which are far less precise.

Applying a cream shadow from a pen will greatly improve your life. These MJ ones are the perfect size and shape to work with—not too big nor too chubby. They say you can use them all over the lids as shadows, OR apply on the angled edge as liners.

And the pen makes them super-portable to pop in your handbag, as I mentioned in my holiday party clutch post.

When you swipe one of these on your lids, you'll immediately feel a slight cooling sensation. No skill is required in terms of application, you just need to scribble where you want the colour. Then use your fingertip to soften and blend, although you might not even have to touch it with the lighter shades, as the shimmery colours require much less precision than a regular matte shadow. If you do need to blend, work fairly quickly, as these do set and "lock" in place after a few seconds.

And that's the entire reason why I love these shadows. (And most cream shadows in general. I've had far more success with them staying in place and not creasing on me compared to powders.) These Twinkle Pops have particularly excellent staying power. I've been wearing them tons, and there is simply no movement or creasing at all until I'm ready to take them off at the end of the day. Hooray!

I have four colours, and here's how they look on the skin:

Volver, of course, is my fave go-anywhere champagne shimmer. But I also really love Stardust for a soft charcoal grey smoky eye. The purplish On The Verge looks great with a burgundy metallic eyeliner (such as the awesome Kat Von D's Lightening Liner in Hex). Three Shakes is a milk chocolate that's probably a bit out of my comfort zone, but if you love a brown smoky eye, you'll probably dig it.

From my holiday party look, here's a glimpse of Three Shakes and Volver on my lids:

Couldn't be easier to work with, and I love the results! After using these, I just never want to reach for a normal powder shadow now. They are the new and improved smoky eye tools for sure.

I'll bet the copper (Leila) and pewter (Au Revoir) are also amazing!
