There's just something about the Cannes Film Festival that brings out the best in celeb beauty. It's like the Oscars, but better—more experimental, and with a glamorous, summery vibe thanks to the backdrop of the French Riviera.
Case in point: these stunning looks from Bella Hadid, Lily-Rose Depp and many more. Here are all the must-see hair and makeup close-ups:
What I like: Bella's fresh-faced Hollywood glam. Say what you will about her cosmetic tinkering, but the woman has insanely gorgeous skin. Also loving the voluminous, wavy bob and cat eyes. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Bella's feline eyes. She was BORN to wear this eyeliner! Notice how the lashes and brows don't overpower it, and the pressed-on red lipstick balances things out (I'm glad she didn't do nude lips). Nobody does sleek hair better. What I'd change: Nothing.

What I like: Lily-Rose's combo of light brown eyeshadow and black waterlines. With the single colour carried all the way up to her (totally natural!) brows, it's a new take on the traditional smoky eye. Flawless skin, piecey waves and nude lips complete this Grecian-inspired look. I just love her colouring! What I'd change: The over-lined lips are obvious and unnecessary.
What I like: Naomie's pink lipstick and matching shimmery shadow. I respect that she almost always skips false lashes, with a smudgy brown liner defining her eyes instead. Hair-wise, the soft waves are a nice change of pace from her usual straight style. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Lily's ultra-dramatic liner, lashes AND brows. This is all about the contrast against her pale skin and white dress. Her blush and lids are peach, but her lips are more pink, with a dab of gloss in the centre. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Lily's curls! And glitter eyeshadow! There's also a bright white eyeliner extending into a cat-eye flick. Few celebs could pull off all of these things simultaneously yet look so downright chic. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Salma's fresh lob! I guess it's a wig, but this would be such a fun update for her—a lighter colour, centre part and straight, angular style. I'm always blown away by her skin and brows, and this peachy-pink makeup is exceptional. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Elle's bold blue cat eyes. (A look we haven't seen since Olivia Wilde did 'em back in 2013!) Her rosy lips and cheeks, feathery brows and soft hair complement them perfectly. What I'd change: Nothing.

What I like: Marion's classic red lipstick and au naturel eyes. The wavy piece in front adds just the right touch of softness. She may have just been dumped by Dior, but Marion will always be a beauty icon for me! What I'd change: Her arches are a bit angular here, so I'd tone those down and fill in the tails more.
What I like: Jessica's raspberry lipstick—I always love this colour on her! Pairing it with peach blush makes the look more interesting. Her hair is as gorgeous as ever, and I love that she's doing softer lashes and brows these days (the red brow pencil is a good match here). What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Rihanna's tight updo and precisely-applied red lipstick. Even though she went for traditional glamour look, it feels fresh because we rarely see her like this. The false lashes are over-the-top, but it's Rihanna, so... okay. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Rihanna's brown lipstick and side-parted top knot. Very '90s! This time, her cheeks are more sculpted and the lashes are toned down. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Emily's undone hairstyle (it's a braid in the back) and matching tawny lips and cheeks. Her brows look amazing, and I'm good with these defined lashes. She reminds me of a '60s Sophia Loren! What I'd change: The liner flicks seem off; they should taper more, like Lily Collins'. Her injections must be fresh, because her lips look so swollen!
What I like: Emily's baby bangs (which are clip-ins, in case you're wondering). They put all the focus on her long lashes, smoky brown shadow and natural brows. What I'd change: The contour/blush situation is too obvious.
What I like: Barbara's shimmering silver smoky eyes. (Well, her eyes would be mesmerizing even without makeup!) Her skin is ridiculously beautiful, and I love how the baby hairs frame her face. What I'd change: I wouldn't have done the false lashes, but models can get away with them more easily.
What I like: Jasmine's soft updo and strong liner. The latter combines black waterlines with a curvy feline flick that accentuates her almond shape. I also like her brows, and the multi-tonal effect on her lips. What I'd change: The lighter colour in the centre of her face (and down her nose) isn't blended properly.
What I like: Kate's pink smoky eyes. Just when you thought you'd seen every possible pink eyeshadow look, here's one more, with smudged-out black waterlines to "ground" it. I also like her darkened, almost messy brows. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Cara's vampy lipstick and sheer eyeshadow in a matching tone. Notice how she's darkening her brows to create more of a statement with her newly shaved, bleached hair. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Kendall's pretty makeup and edgy top knot (we can't see it, but the ends were left sticking out). The strong brows frame her face, so she kept her lips nude and lower lashes bare. What I'd change: Like Emily, she obviously got her lips plumped for Cannes (so why add lip liner under the bottom one to exaggerate it even more?).
What I like: Diane's wavy updo (a new bob, pinned to one side). As usual, her makeup features low-key lashes, a taupey shadow and rosy lips. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Elizabeth's glossy taupe eyeshadow, the perfect choice with her copper-sequinned dress. Everything else looks so effortless, from the updo to the natural lashes to the rose lipstick. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Hailey's textured long bob with casual, pushed-up roots. I always love these warm makeup tones on her—and let's appreciate that she isn't piling on the lashes and contour like so many in her age group. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Kristen's futuristic metallic green shadow. Yep, she's still the reigning queen of creative eye makeup! No false lashes or drawn-in brows, just fresh skin, bare lips and a new icy platinum tone for her buzz cut. What I'd change: Her face doesn't quite match her neck. And I hate to say it, but the nose hair is a little distracting, right?
What I like: Sara's juicy red lips and fluttery lashes. With her gorgeous skin and bone structure, what else does she need? This actually reminds me a lot of Amanda Peet's go-to red carpet look. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Sara's super-dark (and impeccably blended) smoky eyes, which make her pale green eyes pop. Her contouring and highlighting is also flawless, and I like the braid—it's less predictable than an updo. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Fan's incredibly even skin—not a pore nor a freckle to be found. Apparently she goes through two sheet masks a day and uses an umbrella in the sun... clearly it pays off! The (faux?) bob is adorable, and I like the contrast of her bushy brows with the precise liner and lipstick. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Nicole's loose, low ponytail and berry lipstick. This is the best styling I've seen on her in ages! I like that she kept her brows darker, and even though she may be over-injected, her skin is undeniably flawless. What I'd change: Her upper lip is shiny (sweaty?)... must've been a hot day!
What I like: Charlize's retro waves, which feel a bit more modern at the bobbed length. As usual, her makeup is super-understated, with a soft charcoal on the lids and sheer lip gloss. What I'd change: I wish she wouldn't play it so safe with these Old Hollywood looks all the time. Also, she's only 41, so I don't think her lips and cheeks should look this artificially plumped!
What I like: Eva's matte orange lipstick, which is a welcome change from her favourite reds. Smudgy black shadow and dyed black hair are both high-risk, but somehow, she pulls this off... does being French have something to do with it? What I'd change: I've said it before and I'll say it again—I wish she'd do glossy dark brown hair instead of this harsh, matte black. Also, perhaps more skin prep could improve the texture and add a glow.
What I like: Julianne's soft waves and vibrant hair colour, with sparkly diamond earrings to dial up the glam factor. What I'd change: I find the smoky shadow and liner a tad heavy; they kind of close up her eyes. I would also give her more brow definition.
What I like: Doutzen's '80s beach hair. It's got so much height at the roots... and I have to wonder if piecey textures are coming back! Her makeup is equally strong, with smoky eyes, brushed-up brows and a medium pink lipstick. What I'd change: She is stunning, but I'll always prefer "sweeter" looks on Doutzen... this one was my favourite!
What I like: Izabel's healthy, dewy skin and long lashes (yes, I think the falsies look good here!). What I'd change: She has amazing hair, but I'd definitely brush out these waves for a more uniform texture. Long waves like this tend to look dated.
What I like: Daphne's black liner and heavy mascara. I'd rather see this than obvious false lashes; it really plays up her doll-like features. Something about her reminds me of Gigi Hadid... maybe it's the brows? What I'd change: The half-up hair is kinda stringy, but also says, "I don't even have to try." Which is true.
What I like: Elsa's '60s throwback eyeliner and pale pink lipstick. Cat eyes are my favourite on her. If you look closely, you can see she did the Bella Hadid thing at the inner corners. What I'd change: I think the waves make this a bit too retro; it feels contrived. There needs to be some element of freshness or casualness to keep it modern—like her simple hair here.
What I like: Uma's straight, long bob. I really like this cut on her; it's so youthful. Her makeup—and, er, facial features?!—have dramatically improved compared to this shocker from 2015. What I'd change: Her skin tone looks ruddy; perhaps she just had some kind of resurfacing procedure.
What I like: Rita's matte, peachy-rosy lipstick. Her skin looks gorgeous, and her brows have a better texture than usual! They're not so precise, which I prefer. What I'd change: I'd love to take away half of this. The eyeshadow and lashes are super-heavy, and I much preferred this hair to these über-long extensions.
What I like: Michelle's super-bare makeup and cute pixie. What I'd change: I feel like this new platinum shade (it's even lighter than what she had at the Oscars) washes her out. Some more cheek and lip colour wouldn't hurt either.
