The CFDA Awards—Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards—are like the Oscars of fashion. So how fitting that the celebrity and model guests gave their hair and makeup a cool and trendy spin.

You won't see the craziness of the Met Gala here, nor the formal Hollywood glam associated with awards season. But you WILL spot loads of pretty beauty looks you'll want to copy for the summer days and nights ahead!

Priyanka Chopra

What I like: Priyanka's neat, chic, side-parted updo with strong brows and red lips. Also notice the touch of gold shadow, which modernizes her brown smokies. Luminous skin pulls it all together. Love! What I'd change: Nothing. (I find her upper lip situation less distracting in red!)

Kate Bosworth

What I like: Kate's summery orange makeup palette. Glossy lips are the focus (and I appreciate that they're a true orange, not reddish). The colour is echoed more sheerly on her cheeks and lids. It's all so pretty with her simple straight hair, brushed-up brows and defined upper (not lower) lashes. What I'd change: Nothing.

Kate is wearing: SerumMoisturizer • Primer • Foundation • Illuminator in Spotlight • Bronzer in Tantric 102 (as contour) • Setting spray • Eyeliner in Sunset 74 • Eyeshadow in The Dreamer 212 • Lip liner in Oh Cocoa 310 • Lipstick in Core Cora 234

Bella Hadid

What I like: Bella's power bob 'n' bangs! Her hairstylist, Jen Atkin, took inspiration from Michelle Pfeiffer's Scarface style, complete with rounded ends. (I've never seen that movie but I've ALWAYS loved that hairstyle!) Meanwhile, the makeup is all nude, subtle and sculpted. What I'd change: Nothing... but is that seriously her real bone structure? I might need to re-open her Before & After file!

Gigi Hadid

What I like: Gigi's gorgeous skin and long, flowing waves. The more I stare at this makeup, the more I like it: sheer pinky shadow, soft rosy lips and a subtly glowy skin finish. I don't even mind the false lashes. What I'd change: The hair texture's a bit frizzy... and although she does pull off this colour, I'll always prefer Gigi as a blonde!

Olivia Munn

What I like: Olivia's adorable, casual top knot. I've missed this hairstyle! The fluoro red lips keep the summer vibes going, along with a foundation that's sheer enough to show off her freckles. The pink shadow also adds a fresh twist. What I'd change: The false lashes are a good texture, but seem a bit wonky on one eye. And I don't like pink tones in the waterlines.

Lily Aldridge

What I like: Lily's seemingly makeup-free skin! She always looks so amazing in these backless dresses, with her hair sleek and off the face. Strong brows replace the need for tons of lashes, and all she added was a peachy-pink lipstick. Perfection! What I'd change: Nothing.

Elsa Hosk

What I like: Elsa's classic red lipstick, black liner and long lashes combo. Maybe it's because I'm using to seeing her in '60s looks, but I find this quite refreshing with the messy updo. It really brings out her pale blue eyes. What I'd change: Nothing.

Adwoa Aboah

What I like: Adwoa's bleached brows, glossy pink lips and amazing freckles! How striking is this woman? If we look closely, there are some details around the eyes to make them pop: black liner and mascara, a little highlighting and sculpting, and I think she also traced the "Vs" at the inner corners. What I'd change: Nothing.

Hailey Baldwin

What I like: Hailey's air-brushed skin (I swear, this photo is not retouched!), and the way she makes a high ponytail actually look sophisticated. She did a good job on the contour/blush, and I love how the same colour is on her lids under a dusting of glitter. No false lashes, just darkened, arched brows. What I'd change: Nothing.

Lupita Nyong'o

What I like: Lupita's metallic shadow, all the way up to the brows, with an unexpected rich brown lipstick—I think it's a bit metallic, too? I'm also into the softer, longer hair. It's much quieter than the bright and bold looks we've come to expect from her, but I'm liking this change! What I'd change: Nothing.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead

Mary Elizabeth Winstead at the 2017 CFDA Awards.

What I like: Mary's dewy, glowy skin. She has great texture through her brows, and while I don't think she needed the false lashes, at least they're really fluffy. Her bob is tucked behind both ears to show off the cool statement earrings. What I'd change: I'd love to see her do bright lips with more bare eyes. And the lips don't have to always be red!

Janelle Monáe

What I like: Speaking of always doing red lips... Janelle stuck with her favourite shade, too, but in a matte finish. I'm loving the new short hair, especially the long bang. What I'd change: Nothing.

Chloë Sevigny

What I like: Chloë's bare skin and cute top knot. (Are top knots making a comeback? I hope so!) The precise baby cat eyes, defined lashes and orangey-red lipstick add polish. This is probably my favourite look I've ever seen on her! What I'd change: It looks like she is trimming her eyebrows, so they're not laying properly and appearing shorter at the tails. We know from Mary that over-trimming is one of the worst brow mistakes!

Diane Kruger

Diane Kruger at the 2017 CFDA Fashion Awards.

What I like: Diane's soft brown smoky eyes with subtle tight-lining. Her pinky lips havea great blurred texture. Hair-wise, she's doing the same sort of wavy updo that we saw in Cannes. What I'd change: The brow colour seems ashy in places and reddish in others. Her skin seems a bit inflamed... maybe she needs Alicia Keys' cucumber treatment!

Joan Smalls

Joan Smalls at the 2017 CFDA Fashion Awards.

What I like: Joan's big, voluminous curls and oversized '90s hoop earrings. The brown lip gloss is very on-trend, and I always love her brows. What I'd change: For such a goddess, the foundation, lashes and liner are all pretty heavy. Even the gloss is borderline JLo-goopy. Compare and contrast to Joan here looking so much fresher.

Martha Hunt

What I like: Martha's natural skin and darkened brows. I also love the extra-long top lashes and touches of luminizer. With her hair slicked tight to her head, she looks like she just came from the beach. What I'd change: I don't know if it's the bare lips or lack of earrings, but I feel like this needs something more.

Jaimie Alexander

What I like: Jaimie's bouffant updo. Usually we see her in a textured bob, so this is fun for a change. She has lovely skin, and the soft peach lips balance out the smoky eyes. What I'd change: I'd even out her brows (one is nice and feathery, but the other looks filled in?!). The lashes and liner are a little heavy, but okay.

Mandy Moore

What I like: Mandy's vampy, glossy lips and off-the-face hairstyle. Pairing them with the 360-degree cat eyes was a cool idea—in theory—especially with the leopard print. What I'd change: This fell down in the execution, I think. The liner is just way too thick and needs to be right up to the waterlines, not have a big gap of skin. It just looks amateurish. Same with the lipstick; the edges should be a lot neater with such a strong look.
