This year's Emmys brought out a bevy of A-list beauties—in the most glamorous looks we've seen since last awards season!
I'm pleased to report that false lashes seem to be on the wane, and that there seems to be a more thoughtful, restrained approach to colour. But truly, the most exciting aspect was the hair! From pixies to ponytails to fluffy waves, there's something for every taste here.

What I like: Zoë's soft, choppy pixie cut. Adorable, right? She's had it for a while, but it's even better in her natural brunette than the blonde she wore to the Met Gala. Her skin is a dream, with the lived-in makeup I always love on her. Cheeks are subtly sculpted, freckles are still visible, and the black liner closely hugs her lash lines. Bellissima! What I'd change: Her brows are amazing, but the liner extending the tails is a fraction off (should be ashier).
Zoë is wearing: Serum • Moisturizer • Foundation in B40 Sand • Concealer in 3 Almond • Powder in 02 • Bronzer in 03 Jasper • Blush in 07 Rebelle • Highlighter • Brow pencil in 002 Dark Brown • Eyeliner in 7 Charcoal Grey • Eyeshadow (black shade) • Mascara in 1 Charcoal Black • Lipstick in 59 Melon d'Or • Powder (to set and mattify the lipstick)
What I like: Emmy's big, brushed-out S-waves, parted deep and pinned back on one side. What better way to show off those emerald earrings! The makeup is just as beautiful, featuring brown smoky eyes, smudgy black liner and a creamy pink lipstick to make it all pop. No false lashes required! What I'd change: Nothing.

What I like: Mandy's electric pink lipstick. Okay, it's not the most "on trend" shade anymore, but I appreciate the edge it brings to her classic black and white dress and simple jewellery. The rest of the makeup is about defining her lashes and brows, rather than bringing in any competing colours. Since her hemline was so wide, I think the updo kind of balances that out. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Priyanka's sultry plum eyeshadow and lipstick situation. These jewel tones are gorgeous on her, and even more so when they're applied in such a modern way (i.e. under the eyes... and even the mascara is plum!). Her strong brows replace the need for heavy lashes, and a sleek ponytail keeps it all feeling clean. Notice the extra height on top, which helps elongate her face shape. What I'd change: I'd love to see a bit more softness in her brow shape.
Priyanka is wearing: Foundation in 4N1 Suntan • Concealer in 3 Light to Medium • Powder in Translucent • Powder in Medium Deep (as contour) • Eyeshadow in Plum • Eyeshadow in Burnished Bronze • Mascara in Bloodroses • Brow powder in Brunette • Lipstick in An Affair • Lip liner in Red Chocolate
What I like: Jessica's peach lipstick, blush and eyeshadow. I've been digging the barely-there makeup she's been sporting lately, and this look is no exception. Not only does it show off her glowing skin and lovely feathery brows—but it's the perfect counterpoint to a voluminous hairstyle. I'm not usually into pompadours, but this looks great on her! What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Reese's long, straight, blonde hair. I feel like it's more youthful than when she wears it wavy, you know? The blonde is really yellow, borderline too yellow, but I actually like it on her! Also loving the darker brows, seemingly foundation-free skin and slick of warm red lipstick. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Yara's radiant skin—that goes without saying! Also into the bright gold at the inner corners of her eyes, which adds a touch of fun to the curvy cat eyes. Natural lashes and brows, sheer lip gloss and a half-up hairstyle keep it all looking very age-appropriate (she's 17). What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Lea's neat, centre-parted straight hairstyle. As with Emmy Rossum, it sets the stage for some gorgeous, colourful earrings! The makeup is all about sun-kissed skin, nude lips and warm metallic eyes (although we can't see the shadow shades too well in this shot). What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Ariel's silvery smoky eyes with smudgy black waterlines. I could stare at them for days! She has one of the best complexions I've ever seen in Hollywood (complete with cute nose freckles), and I like that she's grown out her brows, which softens every makeup look. What I'd change: Not a fan of her new lip injections!
Ariel is wearing: Serum • Moisturizer • Tinted moisturizer in Dark • Concealer in Medium • Powder in Light/Medium • Blush in Puff • Highlighter in Quartz • Eyeliner in Blacquer 42 • Eyeshadow • Lip liner in Soar • Lip gloss in Sophia
What I like: Gabrielle's high-volume low ponytail. Amazing! With so much going on there, and in the textures of her outfit/necklace, she wisely kept her makeup tones neutral. Really into the strong brows here. What I'd change: The lashes! They're waaaay too heavy, especially at the inner corners. And her under-eye area looks too "baked."
What I like: Sarah's new, rich brunette hair colour. It's so much better than the blonde she's been experimenting with over the past few years, most recently at Critics' Choice! Brows and lashes are looking really good, too, and she eased up on the contour. I like that she did a rosy mocha lipstick instead of red with this dress. What I'd change: I'm not crazy about the yellowy-orange shadow all the way up to the brows.
Sarah is wearing: Foundation in Natural Beige • Concealer • Bronzer • Blush in Warm Honey • Eyeshadow primer • Eyeshadow in Smoky Nights • Eyeshadow in Desert Sunset • Mascara in Black • Brow powder • Lip liner in Peach Envy • Lipstick in Marvelous Mocha
What I like: Rashida's mid-length straight hair with bangs—and its glossy shine! I love that this hairstyle is more unexpected than an updo with a fancy dress. The makeup is fairly bold: dramatic black winged eyes and berry-stained lips. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Elisabeth's super-soft hair and makeup. It's actually more interesting in the close-up. You'll notice a sheer pink wash all over her lids, jet-black mascara on the top lashes only, and a creamy peachy lipstick. Hair is in a soft blowout to tone down the formality of the strapless satin. What I'd change: It's all the same tone, so she looks kinda washed out from afar.
What I like: Sofia's cute high ponytail and bangs. (I'm so sad she already wants to grow them out!) She can't quit the berry lips, but at least it looks fresher here, with the youthful hairstyle. What I'd change: In the close-up, I'm not in love with the liner underneath her eyes... I think it would be better with a thinner line, smudged right into the waterlines.
What I like: Shailene's face-framing low ponytail. What a change from when we last saw her—she's got long hair now, and she's so blonde! The makeup here is really, really good. The forest green liner picks up on her dress, and her lips are such a pretty natural pink. I also love seeing real, healthy skin. What I'd change: I think she'd look better in a warmer, darker blonde.

Tracee Ellis Ross
What I like: Tracee's matte, pale pink lipstick. It's so good with her skin tone! The black liner is also matte, and very graphic—although not a cat eye, which might've been too retro with the lips. She has such great brows! What I'd change: I like the matchy blush, but it's too heavy-handed.
What I like: Julianne's medium pink lipstick. You can't see it here, but she also did a low ponytail, tied with a long, ballerina-esque black ribbon. I love this idea for the red carpet! What I'd change: Not a fan of the false lashes, and her brows could be more balanced (I'm thinking an ashier hue and less skinny tails).
What I like: Gillian's braided updo with loose, face-framing pieces. It's even more amazing from the side! I also love this makeup, which really enhances her natural beauty. Lips are rosy and brows are feathery—all she needs are the long, dark top lashes to complete the look. What I'd change: Nothing.
Gillian is wearing: Tinted lip balm in Cherry Blossom
What I like: Nicole's romantic side updo. Who else is ready for the side bun to make a comeback? The sheer cherry lipstick is a fun departure from her usual pinks. I didn't realize she had such nice, full brows! What I'd change: Well, she looks over-injected, as usual.
What I like: Uzo's fabulous 'fro. Usually, she favours updos (like this one at last year's SAGs), so it's great to finally see her rock her natural texture. I also really like the bright silver at the inner corners of her eyes. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Padma's layered mid-length haircut. The way it sweeps over one eye is so good! It really updates her style. I also appreciate that she experimented with metallic pink and purple eyeshadow—they're cool because they don't match the dress. What I'd change: This would be better without false lashes, and with ashier brows. I'm not 100 percent on board with the lip colour, but it works with the brights.
What I like: Felicity's voluminous long bob with flattering side-swept bangs. This is a great cut for a long face shape! The makeup is fine—long but soft lashes, darkened brows, grey shadow, black liquid liner and a mauve lip. What I'd change: Her skin finish is a little oily from the foundation.
What I like: We can always count on Viola to bring the drama! Here, it's in the form of a sky-high updo, deep red lips and charcoal smoky eyes. If you look closely, there's a hint of purple at the inner corners. It's quite heavy in the close-up, but it works so well from afar. What I'd change: Obviously, the lipstick on her teeth, and I'm never on board with such cray-cray lashes.
What I like: Jane's long, lash-skimming bangs and matching long ponytail. The latter is surely fake, but what an amazing style statement! To go with it, she did matte hot pink lips in the same hue as her dress. What I'd change: I think the black liner is too harsh/heavy.
What I like: Yvonne's sleek, tight, low bun. I always love this kind of hairstyle with a backless dress—it's so effortless and modern! The makeup is all about warm, earthy browns, from the blush to the lipstick to the shimmery eyeshadow. I'm glad she skipped false lashes, because such a clean look has no need for them. What I'd change: I'd fill in her tadpole brow shape.
What I like: Heidi's loose, half-up hair with subtle Ombré ends. It feels very relaxed and Bohemian. The same goes for the makeup, which features neutral smoky eyes and an opaque nude lipstick on top of flawless smooth skin. What I'd change: The bottom false lashes need to go!
What I like: Issa's mauvey lipstick. What I'd change: Unfortunately, the rest of this look is straight from the prom! The combo of the high updo, "safe" earrings and charcoal smoky eyes looks predictable and dated. The false lashes are also too much! But the biggest problem is the heavy skin finish through the mid-face—there's so much product on there, it's actually creating lines. I don't get it, because she has nice skin!
