Every year, the Council of Fashion Designers of America honours the best and brightest in design at the CFDA Fashion Awards. And the guest list always includes a bevy of A-list models and celebrities!
If you're into creative makeup and natural skin, you'll love the looks below from the 2018 event, held earlier this week.
What I like: Gigi's fresh skin, bright red lipstick, long lashes and natural brows. Could she be any more gorgeous?! What I'd change: The stripe of highlighter down her nose to her Cupid's bow is a bit obvious!
Gigi is wearing:Primer • Concealer • Powder in Light • Contour and bronzer • Highlighter • Highlighter in Light Iridescent and Medium Nude Glow • Eyeshadow in Tastefully Taupe • Eyeliner in Sleek Onyx • Mascara in Blackest Black • Brow pencil • Brow mascara in Clear • Lip primer • Lipstick in Heroine
What I like: Ciara's chic ponytail and naturally sculpted, flawless skin. I also love the strong highlights at the inner corners of her eyes. I think this is her most beautiful look to date! What I'd change: Nothing. (The lashes are fine because this is so clean.)
What I like: Jasmine's electric blue eyeshadow in a graphic diagonal shape. The only way to wear something this bold is with sleek hair, full brows, natural lashes and nude lips. She nailed it! What I'd change: Nothing.
Jasmine is wearing: Primer • Foundation in Tan Y440 • Concealer in 4 Late Show • Highlighter in 50 Dew You? • Powder in Invisible • Bronzer in 104 Tan-Tastic! • Blush in 506 Flesh & Fantasy • Eyeliner in Out of the Blue 53 • Eyeshadow in Smartorial • Mascara in Noir • Brow pencil in Ashbrown 4 • Brow gel in 30 Invisible • Lipstick in Role Play 110 • Highlighter in Spotlight (on body)
What I like: Martha's Swarovski crystal "eyeliner." I love creative ideas like this, especially with glowy skin and simple, straight hair. What I'd change: The lip liner isn't blended, and the brow pencil is a tad red.
What I like: Lais' super-dewy (but not greasy) skin with shimmery nude shadow and liner smudged into her waterlines. I'm always blown away by her prettiness! What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Josephine's dark purple lipstick, perfected matte skin and sleek hair tucked behind both ears. Doesn't this make you want to wear a vampy lip? What I'd change: Nothing.
Josephine is wearing:Foundation in 235 Pure Beige • Concealer in Light • Powder in Light • Blush • Eyeshadow in Pink Edge • Eyeshadow in Urban Light • Mascara in Very Black • Brow pencil in Soft Brown • Lipstick in Believer
What I like: Grace's soft, side-parted waves, matte red lipstick and soft grey liner. This feels retro-inspired, but so fresh! What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Lupita's metallic peachy gold lipstick—she was born to wear these unconventional shades—and matte black winged liner. The braid in her hair is cool, too. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Irina's gold eyeshadow, flawless skin and smooth, waved hair. Notice how she (and many others here) skipped blush! What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Karlie's dewy skin, pink lipstick and blush. Her cheeks are just amazing, no? And I'm so glad she hasn't succumbed to the fake lips trend. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Ashley's matte, hot pink lipstick and perfectly imperfect waves. Normally, I find her makeup too heavy, but this is super-pretty. What I'd change: I don't think lips do that naturally... do they?
What I like: Camila's subtle brown shadow, rosy cheeks and naturally glowing skin. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Naomi's glossy mauve lips, charcoal liner and signature stick-straight hair (a wig). What I'd change: Her brow powder is too red. (How can beauty companies not get this right yet?!)
Tracee Ellis Ross
What I like: Tracee's bold, creamy hot pink lipstick with a tight updo, defined lashes and glossy (!!) brows. I always love that she keeps it real with her skin. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Nina's gold liner and brown shadow with a dusting of gold glitter. I like the updo and long side bang as well—she must be growing out this bob. What I'd change: The lip liner needs blending.
What I like: Kendall's shimmery pale purple eyeshadow and romantic wavy updo. What I'd change: The foundation's a bit heavy, but okay considering she was going through a bad acne outbreak a few months ago.
What I like: Alessandra's orangey-red lipstick—it's so nice to see colour on her for once! I also love the thick winged liner, silver shadow and soft waves. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Joan's shimmery pink smoky eyes, grounded by black liner. Her blush and lip gloss create a matchy-matchy effect, and the faux wavy ponytail is fun. What I'd change: Nothing... I think this colour makes her upper lip filler less noticeable than the shiny red she wore in Cannes.
What I like: Emily's orangey blush and matte coral-pink lipstick. With long lashes, natural brows and wavy hair, this is so feminine and effortless. What I'd change: Nothing.
Emily is wearing:Primer • Foundation in Medium Y370 • Concealer in 4 Late Show • Highlighter in 50 Dew You? • Powder in 36 Golden Fawn • Setting spray • Bronzer in Tantric 102 • Blush in 504 Kink & Kisses • Eyeliner in (Brown)ie 43 • Eyeshadow in Fantascene • Mascara in Noir • Brow pencil in Medium Brown 6 • Brow gel in 30 Invisible • Lipstick in Sonic Truth 244 • Highlighter in Spotlight (on body)
What I like: Shanina's futuristic gold headpiece with natural, glowing makeup. There's such a great golden sheen on her eyelids, and I love the pop of natural pink on her lips. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Lili's shimmery pink eyeshadow and matching glossy lips, both of which pick up the colour of the flowers on her dress. What I'd change: I don't like the false lashes, and the updo is a bit "meh." I would've done a deep side part, at least.
What I like: Elsa's '70s-inspired flippy waves and shimmering smoky eyes. I love how the shadow has tones of brown, pink and gold. What I'd change: The overlining of her lips is so obvious.
What I like: Lily's bright, light lilac eyeshadow along her lash lines, inner corners... and Cupid's bow! Along with the strong cheek highlight, sleek hair and natural skin, it gives such a cool, futuristic effect. What I'd change: The only place I would've skipped the lilac is under the brows.
What I like: Olivia's blunt, wavy lob, subtle cat eyes and pink lip gloss. I think the lashes are okay because the texture is soft, and there's not a lot of makeup going on elsewhere. What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Winnie's bright, glittering blue eyeshadow and shimmery peachy-pink lip gloss. What I'd change: This wig is really obvious at the hairline, and I wish she'd skipped the false lashes.
What I like: Kaia's full, brushed-up brows, long lashes and muted coral lipstick. What I'd change: I don't love the skinny ends of her haircut.
What I like: Rosie's angled brown eyeshadow, textured brows and messy, wavy high bun. What I'd change: Her lips and cheeks are looking too injected (giving her that "wooden" quality I've observed in the past). I don't think this shade of blonde is the most flattering for her complexion.
Rosie is wearing: Moisturizer • Eye cream • Concealer in Medium • Blush in Sunny • Blush in Grisaille (as contour) • Eyeshadow in Quite Natural • Eyeshadow in Shell and Truffle • Mascara • False lashes • Hair gel (as brow gel) • Brow pen in Taupe • Lip colour in American Woman • Blush in Poppy (as lip colour)
What I like: Issa's bright gold glitter eyeshadow and voluminous half-back hair. What I'd change: The eyeshadow application and false lashes just seem dated. I would do a more modern smoky eye, stronger brows and colour on the lips.
What I like: Busy's edgy, winged-out charcoal eyeshadow, dark brows and pink lipstick. I think the lighting is not the best though! What I'd change: The hairstyle and outfit/jewellery make this come across a bit "harsh."
What I like: Jourdan's blackberry lipstick and mid-length curls in a deep side part. What I'd change: This would've been so perfect if the contouring wasn't so high-contrast, and if she'd skipped the tacky false lashes.
What I like: Amber's off-the-face hair, cat eyes and peach lipstick. She always looks so good in a suit! What I'd change: Softer brows, more under-eye concealer (I think she looks kinda tired)... and what are those two indentations in her lips?
What I like: Kim's messy, textured high ponytail. And you know what? Good for her for at least trying colourful eyeshadow rather than her default neutrals. Her skin looks fine, too (no obvious contouring, and none of the textural issues we saw at the Met Gala). What I'd change: I'm not crazy about the orange shade, and as usual, I'd prefer natural lashes, less precise brows, and no visible lip liner.
Kim is wearing: Moisturizer
