This year's Emmy Awards red carpet was all about glowing, dewy skin with colourful eyeshadow.
Orange was the key trend, but celebs also wore shades of gold, magenta and plum on their eyes, usually with natural lashes (hooray!). Hair was either tied back or softly waved... and it looks like half-up styles and floral adornments are making a comeback!
Below, the best skin, hair and makeup of the night.
What I like: Emilia's glowing smooth skin, full brows, long lashes and understated pink lipstick. Love that she finally ditched the platinum blonde for a more natural brunette with blonde highlights! What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Thandie's sheer pink eyeshadow, thick fringe of lashes and 70's-inspired low bun. I'm glad she didn't do a strong lip or cheek, which would overwhelm the look. Her skin is utterly flawless! What I'd change: Nothing.
Thandie is wearing: Eyeshadow in Bronze Seduction
What I like: Mandy's radiant skin, perfectly groomed brows, and sheer peachy lipstick and eyeshadow. Her chunky lashes and newly dark brown, textured hair make this more edgy than sweet. What I'd change: It's so minor, but just blending in that lower lip liner.
Mandy is wearing: Serum • Moisturizer • Primer • Foundation in 260 Bisque N • Setting spray • Eyeshadow palette in Warm Chroma (as blush, eyeshadow and lip mattifier) • Highlighter in Sparkling Pêche • Lash extension fibers • Mascara in Big is the New Black • Lipstick in Timide
Tracee Ellis Ross
What I like: Tracee's colour-blocking with bright orange eyeshadow (actually a lipstick!) and matte hot pink lips. So fun! It works because her hair is back, skin is fresh, and her brows and lashes are natural. What I'd change: Nothing.
Tracee is wearing: Foundation in 9 Dark • Blush in Ibiza • Blush in Pillow Talk • Blush in Love is the Drug • Blush in Pretty Fresh • Eyeshadow in Bette • Lipstick in Tell Laura (as eyeshadow) • Mascara in Black Vinyl • Lipstick in Carina's Love • Lipstick in Screen Siren
What I like: Dakota's half-up hair, cat eyes, full brows and flawless skin. Her lips are bare and the blush is so well-blended. She looks soft, pretty and effortless! What I'd change: Nothing.
Dakota is wearing: Foundation in Cool Rosy • Blush in Petal • Luminizer • Eyeshadow in Front Row • Eyeshadow in Lune • Eyeliner in Matte Black • Mascara in Over Black • Lipstick in Ultra Lust • Tinted lip balm in Pink Glow
What I like: Yara's high top knot, smooth skin and tone-on-tone makeup look. It's actually the same two burnished red lip shades sheered out over her eyes, cheeks and lips! What I'd change: Nothing.
Yara is wearing: Face mask • Essence • Moisturizer • Foundation in Golden Honey • Foundation in Warm Almond • Powder in Golden Orange • Bronzer in Deep • Lipstick in Burnt Cherry (as eyeshadow, blush and lipstick) • Lip liner in Sangria (as eyeshadow, blush and lipstick) • Eyeliner in Black Ink • Lip balm (as eye highlight and on lips) • Brow powder in Dark • Brow pencil • Highlighter in Nectar (on body)
What I like: Jessica's long, slightly roughed-up waves (which makes them modern) and pop of matte berry lip stain. I love that she kept her eyes so bare—it looks young and fresh! Also, her hair colour is absolutely amazing right now. What I'd change: Her skin seems a little dry.
Jessica is wearing: Tinted moisturizer in Medium • Foundation in Beige • Powder in No. 40 • Blush in Quintessence • Eyeshadow in Mystère et Intensité • Mascara in Noir • Brow pencil in Blond Tendre • Lip liner in Natural • Lipstick in Avant-Gardiste • Lipstick in Idéal (centre of lips)
What I like: Scarlett's cute little blonde bob—finally she got rid of the "Mom" hair! The bright gold shimmer at her inner corners is fun with black winged liner and sheer pale pink lipstick. What I'd change: The lashes weigh this down.
Scarlett is wearing: Eyeshadow in Bronze Seduction
What I like: Madeline's soft lashes, subtly shimmery shadow, sculpted cheeks and feathery brows. She's actually wearing fresh roses at the back of her half-up hair! What I'd change: Nothing.
What I like: Alison's dewy skin and beachy mid-length hair. The shades of shimmery brown and gold bring out her blue eyes without looking too heavy. What I'd change: I just don't love the way her brows are filled in at the inner corners.
Alison is wearing: Lip gloss in Bikini
Evan Rachel Wood
What I like: Evan's face-framing waves, flower-adorned updo, soft brows and shaded eyes. What I'd change: I'm not crazy about the precise edges of her lip colour. I think it's more current to have a pressed-on, stain-like texture.
Evan is wearing: Lipstick in Wine Waters
What I like: Vanessa's smooth blowout and voluminous "swoop." With brown-toned nude lips, strong brows and a vampy dress, it all feels very "'90s supermodel!" What I'd change: Her skin's a little dry around the nose, and I'm not sure I'd go quite this dark with the brow powder.
What I like: Kristen's elegant ballerina bun. I love seeing her hair back, for once! The glossy nude lips and brown shaded eyes are understated and classic with the white gown. What I'd change: Nothing (at least from this angle!).
Kristen is wearing: Lip gloss in Ever After
What I like: Constance's taupe eyeshadow, nude lipstick and glowing skin. The neat, centre-parted updo balances out the strong eye look. What I'd change: I find the lashes too heavy, and she could use some powder around her nose.
What I like: Claire's slicked-back bob, soft lashes and bold red mouth. I'm glad we can still see her freckles! What I'd change: Her skin's very dry, and the lip colour application could be neater at the edges.
What I like: Keri's dramatic plum smoky eyes, black waterlines and bold brows. It doesn't look too over-the-top, thanks to the loose hair, sheer gloss and no false lashes. What I'd change: I will always prefer Keri in a berry lip, sans eyeliner!
What I like: Elisabeth's unexpected tangerine eyeshadow with natural lashes and a bright red lipstick. It's a blurred version of Tracee's makeup! It also gives her platinum blonde hair and strapless dress an entirely different, trendy twist. What I'd change: She doesn't suit this extreme blonde. A soft light brown would be so good!
Elisabeth is wearing: Eye serum • Foundation in 3W • Concealer in Sand • Contour • Highlighter in 001 • Eyeshadow in Volcanic • Eyeshadow in Devilish • Eyeliner in Catwalk Black • Mascara in Pro Black • Brow powder in Light • Lip liner in Star • Lipstick in Ultra Star
What I like: Chrissy's flawless skin and wavy, highlighted bob in a deep side part. What I'd change: I'm not a fan of the dark rose lip and cheek tones with the brown smoky eyes—it seems dated. I'd have chosen one or the other!
Chrissy is wearing: Lotion • Moisturizer • Foundation in Sand • Foundation in Tan • Concealer in Medium Deep • Contour in In the Nude • Powder • Eyeshadow in Cocoa • Eyeliner in Black Moon • Mascara in Black • Brow pencil in Dirty Blonde • Tinted lip balm in Posh
What I like: Kirsten's bright orange-red lipstick and soft lashes. Her side-swept waves are pretty, even if they're not the most on-trend. What I'd change: I'd love to break her out of this old Hollywood rut... something like this 2015 look would be a welcome change!
