BAFTAs 2019: The Best Skin, Hair and Makeup on the Red Carpet
Now that we've covered the Grammys, we return to our regularly scheduled awards season programming with this week's British Academy Film Awards!
Also known as the BAFTAs, you can think of them as the Oscars of Britain—with just as many amazing beauty looks to gawk at.
Keep scrolling for the best hair and makeup of the night, plus product details!
Laura Harrier
Laura is quickly becoming my new beauty crush for looks like this one! Skin is fresh, brows are full but groomed, and the smoky purple eyeshadow is unexpected with the orange dress. The sparkly, colourful barrette in her hair brings it all together.
Laura is wearing: Foundation • Blush in Rose Indien • Eyeshadow in Reflet d'Améthyste • Mascara (top lashes only) • Lipstick in Suspense
Lily Collins
Lily went with one of her signature looks: matte blackberry lips, strong brows and a sleek updo. The long lashes and shimmering rose gold eyeshadow, all the way up to her brows, add softness. I always say this, but how flawless is her skin?!
Lily is wearing: Foundation • Blush in Rose Sable • Eyeshadow • Mascara in Noir Mirifique • Brow pencil in Medium Brown • Brow gel in Brun • Lipstick in Berry Noir
Margot Robbie
It used to be that you'd only see a brightly coloured lip OR an eye—not the two together. So Margot rocking this blue liner and coral lipstick feels very fresh! Black at the outer "Vs" helps define her lashes, while the 1940s-inspired updo gives it an elegant touch.
Margot is wearing: Eyeliner in Fervent Blue
Thandie Newton
After her dramatic disco look at the Globes, Thandie went very simple and natural here—and I love it. Her complexion is absolutely gorgeous; all she added was a bit of liner and mauve lipstick, plus straightened, centre-parted hair.
Amy Adams
This is my favourite Amy look we've seen so far this awards season. The ponytail tied with a bow suits her girly vibe, and I like that she went with a more dramatic eye than usual (albeit with her favourite warm coppery tones to match her hair). This dress is a good colour for her!
Cate Blanchett
Cate is brunette! The colour seems really healthy, but she looks like an entirely different person, don't you think? Personally, I prefer her as a blonde. She went a little more intense on the blush, to make up for her skin being so pale against the new hair colour. I don't mind the false lashes, since she has hooded eyes.
Cate is wearing: Primer • Foundation in 3.5 • Concealer in 1 and 2 • Powder in 4.5 • Illuminator in 2 • Blush in 50 • Eyeshadow in Paparazzi • Mascara in Obsidian Black • Brow pencil in 2 • Lipstick in 2
Lucy Boynton
I was really enjoying all the creativity that Lucy was bringing to the red carpet... but this may be a step too far! Her makeup artist was inspired by the shape of a fish tail—that's why the eyeshadow is trailing downward at the bottom. I think it would be better with just the berry colour on the upper lids (that's risky enough!). I'm also not crazy about the hair.
Lucy is wearing: Moisturizer • Eyeshadow in Rouge A La Folie • Mascara in Black
Danai Gurira
This look from Danai is the epitome of radiance and elegance. I love her glowing skin, bright creamy red lipstick and subtly shaded eyes. The hairstyle is perhaps a bit formal, but I do like the retro shape and how it's held by a double headband.
Claire Foy
I've never said this before, but I really like Claire's makeup. Her skin is looking a lot more hydrated than it has been in the past, and the stained lips, soft lashes and seamless blush are all fantastic. I just feel like the wet hair seems a bit messy.
Claire is wearing: Illuminator (underneath foundation) • Foundation • Concealer • Powder in Fair (on forehead and chin) • Powder in Fair (on blemishes) • Bronzer and highlighter • Blush in Pillow Talk • Highlighter • Highlighter • Eyeshadow in Pillow Talk and The Vintage Vamp • Eyeliner in Panther • Mascara in Black Vinyl • Brow pencil in Rita • Lipstick in Love Liberty • Lip liner in Hollywood Honey
Rachel Weisz
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it" seems to be Rachel's motto lately. She went with her go-to berry lips and understated eyes, wearing her hair in a sharp centre part and tucked behind both ears. Is it just me or does her skin have a little powder residue?
Rachel is wearing: Lipstick in Elderberry
Eleanor Tomlinson
You wouldn't think pink eyeshadow and matching lipstick would work on a redhead, but Eleanor proves that it can. The softness and blending are key, as well as the lack of any harsh, dark liner or heavy mascara.
Salma Hayek
I love that Salma tried something different with her hair—adding miniature braids and a dramatic headpiece to her updo. The bold reddish copper shadow and matching lipstick are flattering with her skin tone... but the stripe down her nose could be more blended!
Salma is wearing: Foundation • Foundation • Concealer • Bronzer and highlighter • Highlighter • Blush in The Climax • Eyeshadow in The Vintage Vamp • Eyeliner in Barbarella Brown • Eyeliner in Audrey • Mascara in Black Vinyl • Brow pencil in Super Model • Brow gel in Super Model • Lipstick in Super Model • Lip liner in Supersize Me • Lip gloss in Refresh Rose
Kate Middleton
Remember when Kate used to wear such heavy eye makeup back in the day? I think she's adopted a lighter touch, because I really like this eyeshadow and the baby cat eyes! However, the wavy, off-the-face updo is very "royal" (I'm not a fan).
Irina Shayk
Irina was all about understated neutrals and sculpted skin, to show off her model bone structure. One thing I really like here is the matte, warm, pinky-nude eyeshadow all over her lids. Notice how the highlights at her inner corners bring this to life.
Irina is wearing: Foundation • Foundation • Concealer • Powder • Bronzer and highlighter • Contour • Highlighter • Blush in Moon Beach • Eyeshadow in The Sophisticate • Mascara in Glossy Black • Brow pencil in Super Model • Brow gel in Super Model • Lipstick in Super Model • Lip gloss in Refresh Rose
Rachel Brosnahan
While she played it fairly safe, I'm a fan of this look on Rachel. The smoky eyes and blush are so well-blended, and there's some good texture through her brows. The updo is nice and soft as well.
Rachel is wearing: Primer • Foundation • Highlighter in Champagne Glow (mixed with foundation) • Concealer • Powder in Translucent • Blush in Rose La-La! • Eyeshadow base in Beige Porcelaine • Eyeshadow in Onyx • Eyeshadow in Erika F • Eyeshadow in Strass Black • Eyeliner in Noir Mirifique • Mascara in Black • Brow pencil in Dark Brown • Lipstick in Ardent Sand
Olga Kurylenko
Like Irina, fellow model Olga wore her hair sleek and flat to put the focus on her features. What's interesting about this look is the pink lipstick, which deliberately doesn't match the dress or earrings.
Linda Cardellini
While I don't think the style is the most current (nor does it work with this dress), Linda's hair has an amazing new colour. It used to be dark brown, but I really like these lighter golden tones! She also went more experimental with her makeup than we've seen in the past, choosing matching corals for her eyeshadow, blush and lipstick.
Linda is wearing: Concealer • Powder • Highlighter in Golden Glow and Champagne Glow • Blush in Pink Flush • Bronzer in It's Time to Glow • Eyeshadow in Terre de Sienne • Mascara in Black • Brow pencil • Lipstick base • Lipstick in Au Naturel
