"I use organic products, but I get lasers," says Gwyneth Paltrow. "It's what makes life interesting, finding the balance between cigarettes and tofu."
The 46-year-old actress turned entrepreneur may be known for the organic lifestyle she espouses on Goop, but she admitted to Harper's Bazaar that she'll "try anything" in pursuit of youthful-looking skin.
"Except I won't do Botox again, because I looked crazy. I looked like Joan Rivers!"
Instead, she swears by regular facials, skin-tightening treatments at the derm's, and of course, her own line of natural skincare products.
"I’m lucky with my skin because of genetics and a good lifestyle, [but] I think the products have really helped with that glow," she told Vogue. "I hope organics are the way the industry is going.... We absorb 60 to 80 percent of what we put on our skin, so the idea that you're exercising and trying to eat well and then slathering yourself with chemicals, parabens and silicones—it's not great."

Gwyneth’s Morning Skincare Routine
"I wash my face in the shower, just with water."
Goop by Juice Beauty Replenishing Night Cream: "I use this in the day because I have very dry skin. [Most moisturizers are] full of plastic and silicones and parabens and things that are really not good for us, but they give that silky finish. So I really wanted my creams to feel luxurious and have a beautiful finish, and it's harder to do that with natural ingredients, but we were able to do that."
Restorsea Restoring Night Cream: "I wear this nice thick night cream during the day, especially on an airplane."
Drunk Elephant Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30: "We did a big story on clean, non-toxic SPFs... there's a great one by Drunk Elephant."
COOLA Mineral Face SPF 30 Cucumber Matte Finish Moisturizer: "I also like the ones by COOLA and Honest. I only use mineral sunscreens, never the chemical ones. I don't understand why anyone would put on carcinogens. [But] I still tan without sunscreen, which is really, totally fucked up."
Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Flawless Serum Foundation: "I'm not very good at putting on makeup, which is, I think, a result of having had my makeup done for 20-plus years. Luckily I have my own foundation colour because I helped develop it."
Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Perfecting Concealer: "You just have to warm it up in your hand for a second. I don't use tons of foundation normally. I believe in freckles."
Olio E Osso Balm: "This is one of my favourite products for bronzing and colour. It's a beautiful olive oil balm with colour in it, and I'll stain my cheeks with that."
Tata Harper Volumizing Lip & Cheek Tint: "And a little of the Tata Harper cheek volumizer."
RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek: "I usually use a little bit of Tata Harper or RMS. They each have a little cream blush for lips and cheeks."
7. Lip Gloss:
Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Liquid Lip: "Juice Beauty does a great non-toxic mascara and also these liquid lip glosses. It's less and less hard to find non-toxic stuff. It's kind of amazing how much selection is available."
Gwyneth’s Nighttime Skincare Routine
Goop by Juice Beauty Luminous Melting Cleanser: "I do my skincare routine in the bath. So, I get in, and then I wash my face. I always use the Goop Cleanser. It is a miracle for removing makeup. I put it in the palms my hands and emulsify it. It comes with this beautiful little cloth—organic cotton—which I soak in some hot water and wring out, and then use to take it all off. It leaves your skin super clean."
Ursa Major 4-in-1 Essential Face Wipes: "When I'm on the go, I use Ursa Major face wipes."
Goop by Juice Beauty Exfoliating Instant Facial: "This is to me like a professional facial in a jar. It is so efficacious. On the jar, it says to only use it three times a week, but I use it every night. It's my secret to young, fresh-looking skin. What I like so much when you get a professional facial is that there are always a couple of kinds of exfoliation. So we developed this Instant Facial to have an acid tingly exfoliation, and then also a manual exfoliation. After it starts to really tingle, I wet my fingers a little bit, and then I work in the manual exfoliant. And then I always like to do what I call the third exfoliation, with a hot cotton washcloth."
3. Face Oils:
Vintner's Daughter Active Botanical Serum: "At nighttime, I always love to use Vintner's Daughter. I love it [because] my skin tends to be on the drier side. But this isn't only an oil-based serum. April, the woman who makes it, says it's full of all kinds of fantastic things. It really heals skin. In general, I love serums and face oils and body oils. I'm a real oil kind of girl. There's a myth that oil is not good for your skin. I don't believe in that at all."
Goop by Juice Beauty Enriching Face Oil: "I always put this on underneath my night cream. I have super dry skin, so for me... oil is fantastic. I'm obsessed with face oil, I'm a complete face oil junkie, so I wanted to make the best, most hydrating and yet lightweight oil. So we went through lots of iterations of it and I think we nailed it. The California Organic Products Act states that a product needs to be 70 percent or more organic ingredients to be classified as such, and we're way above that; the oil is 99 percent organic. It took a lot of work but it's amazing."
Sonya Dakar Organic Omega Booster for Dry, Sensitive Skin: "I use an oil by my facialist in L.A., Sonya Dakar. It adds a nice little glow."
Goop by Juice Beauty Replenishing Night Cream: "In the summer, I tend to use less night cream because we are on the East Coast and it's got nice humidity in the air. But if I'm in California, especially in the winter, then I use a nice night cream. This cream is incredibly rich and thick. I use extra layers of it at night."
5. Eye Creams:
Dr. Barbara Sturm Eye Cream: "After that, I go for my Dr. Barbara Sturm... I dab some eye cream, a very important part of the process."
Goop by Juice Beauty Perfecting Eye Cream: "And then we have our eye cream, which I love. It somehow feels a little bit cooling, which is really fantastic. I dab it around my eyes and put a little on my lips. I want an eye cream to be really hydrating and lifting, but also cooling. I think we got this one right and I'm proud of it."
6. Lip Balm:
Love + Sage Daydreams Lip Balm: "I end it with some lip balm."
Gwyneth’s Skincare Treatments
Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Instant Eye Lift Algae Mask: "Juice Beauty makes an algae face mask, and if I'm on a really long flight I'll put it on while I'm watching a movie. It's really brilliant, made with organic ingredients, and very hydrating. I just sit there looking a little weird on the plane."
May Lindstrom Skin The Blue Cocoon Beauty Balm Concentrate: "Sometimes, I'll use a clarifying mask. I like this blue one by May Lindstrom."
Jade Roller: "There are makeup artists sometimes that have a jade face roller. If you're really tired those are really good."
Sonya Dakar: "Sonya Dakar is my facialist in Los Angeles. I try to go once a week now that I live in L.A. I think facials really help with staying young. It's hard-core—squeezing, peeling, microdermabrasion, and lasers! I always feel really good after seeing her. She's just magic—and a full-on human being, a real ball-buster."
Lasky Aesthetics: "I don't have a lot of free time to get facials, but I try to get one when I can, from Vanessa Hernandez or Molly Lucio at Lasky Aesthetics, just to keep it all happening."
"I think the most luxurious [part of my routine] is when I get a facial–microdermabrasion and oxygen facials. That's when I really pamper myself and give my skin a good workout."
Dr. Karyn Grossman: "Karyn Grossman is my number one beauty recommendation."
Thermage: "[Dr. Grossman] did a Thermage laser treatment on me that took five years off my face. It's not invasive. I went out to dinner right afterward and I didn't look crazy, but it's quite painful. It feels like someone's smacking your face with a rubber band that has an electric shock in it."
"I'm always the guinea pig to try everything. I've been stung by bees. It's a thousands of years old treatment called apitherapy. People use it to get rid of inflammation and scarring. It's actually pretty incredible if you research it. But, man, it's painful."
Gwyneth’s Diet, Exercise and Lifestyle
"I do really believe that beauty comes from within, mostly how you feel about yourself and how you express love of yourself, but also in the form of nutrition. My first meal of the day is normally lunch. Usually, I just try to eat pretty clean during the day—good proteins and lots of vegetables and not too much grain or sugar, and nothing baked—and then I tend to eat whatever I want for dinner. But I do always try to avoid highly processed foods and high-fructose corn syrup."
"I drink so much water and always have, but I'm always dehydrated. I've been doing research about mineralizing water and adding Himalayan sea salt to it to help with absorption. It doesn't taste amazing, but it really mineralizes the water and makes a big difference."
"I definitely take supplements. The way the modern food system is, we're always depleted of nutrients, so I take a good multivitamin, and a fish oil, and then I have other herbs for various things."
Goop GoopGenes Marine Collagen Superpowder: "I have a bit of a weakness for [vanilla icing], so when I tasted this, I was like, 'Oh, this is good!' Then I was like, 'Is this so yummy that it's not Goop-y? Too much birthday cake?' And then I was like... 'Fuck it—it tastes really good.'"
Perricone MD Super Berry with Acai Dietary Supplement Powder: "I discovered Dr. Perricone through a friend. I got hooked on his Super Berry Powder with Acai, an antioxidant supplement [that] I now add to my water after workouts."
"I try to do one good cleanse a year. It's great for eliminating bloat and firming your skin, and just feeling your best."
Be Hive of Healing: "As soon as I arrive in L.A. after a long flight, I head to Be Hive of Healing, a holistic healing centre in Santa Monica, to see Dr. Habib Sadeghi, the founder. He gives me an IV [intravenous therapy] full of vitamins, which is incredible. Dr. Sadeghi has also changed my life in terms of allergy testing and food."
"I personally think fitness is a very important part of skincare and overall health and wellness and beauty. I think that the skin is our largest organ. We detoxify through it if we choose to. So a good sweat every day, you're really pushing out a big toxic load out of your body."
Tracy Anderson Method: "I'm a total die-hard Tracy Anderson fan. Her method works so well for me. I've seen all these fads come and go, and nothing works for me the way that Tracy's approach does, so I really stick with it. She's amazing. I stream her whenever I can when I'm in New York, and when I'm in California, I try to go to her classes five days a week for an hour. But now I'm so busy with my company, that I only do it three or four times a week. When I started doing her method, I had 20 pounds to lose, and I had just had a baby, so I did it six days a week for a long time. I did it for so long it's in my DNA now."
The Class by Taryn Toomey: "The other boutique fitness class that I like a lot is The Class. I do it once in a while. For me, it's more of an emotional release than a workout—though it is a hard workout."
"I remember when I started doing yoga and people were like, 'What is yoga? She's a witch. She's a freak.' Forgive me if this comes out wrong, but I went to do a yoga class in L.A. recently and the 22-year-old girl behind the counter was like, 'Have you ever done yoga before?' And literally I turned to my friend, and I was like, 'You have this job because I've done yoga before.'"
"I have a little infrared sauna at my house that's amazing. I try to do it three times a week—it's a huge detoxifier and definitely a beauty trick. The lower the toxic load you're carrying, the better you feel and the better you look."
"The lifestyle I lead is based not just on clean eating, but also on clean sleeping: at least seven or eight hours of good, quality sleep—and ideally even ten. It goes without saying that poor sleep is terrible from a beauty perspective. Call it vanity, call it health, but I know there's a huge correlation between how I feel and what I look like when I roll out of bed in the morning."
"I also think it's really important to be surrounded by people you really love who inspire you. Then you feel happy and content and beautiful, even if you have wrinkles."
