Spring is here, and so is a new collection of celebrity close-ups straight from the red carpet!
If you're updating your look this season, there are a few key trends happening right now:
- Metallic eyeliner and eyeshadow, in shades ranging from silvers to pinks, and worn along the lower lash lines.
- The "kitten eye," a subtler (and let's face it, easier to achieve!) take on the classic cat eye.
- Luminous skin, rather than obvious highlighting.

Could Olivia be any more beautiful? If you ask me, green is her best colour, and a smoky eye is her best makeup look! I especially love the heavy winged liner and the swipe of metallic underneath each eye. Her bob has grown out nicely into this softer lob with tone-on-tone highlights.
Gigi's flawless skin is the canvas for a beautiful monochromatic makeup look with rosy nude lips and matching soft shadow. Defined jet-black lashes make her eyes pop. Her brows look like they've been microbladed, do they not? (Compare them to how they were here!)
"'80s rockstar who's also a vampire... but make it fashun" was how Lupita's makeup artist described this look! And it's true—the asymmetrical bob and shiny pink pantsuit are channelling that decade. I love her berry lip colour, silver liner and luminous skin. (But not the yellow contacts she later added!)
A year ago, Scarlett's hair was super short. Now, it's grown out enough to wear in this sleek updo—the perfect counterpoint to a vampy cherry lip. Notice the baby cat eyes (kitten eyes), defined lower lashes and highlighter at the inner corners, which elevates the entire look.
With such an intricate and delicate white dress, Olivia's loose hair and deep brick lipstick add some needed edge (although I don't think the overlining was necessary). The lashes are not her own, but they have a great natural texture.
Michelle has the loveliest skin, doesn't she? So clear, and so luminous. Rather than her usual barely-there makeup, she punched things up with this glossy coral lip. The strong eyeliner and curled lashes help lift her hooded eyes. I only wish she'd trade the harsh platinum hair for a darker strawberry blonde.
Halle never ventures away from her favourite neutral tones, but I love what she did with her eyes here—a silvery shade up top paired with a warm bronze along the bottom. And her skin is so dewy and youthful (need I remind you that she's 52?!). I'm just not crazy about these ashy highlights.
When Charlize first went brunette, I wasn't that into it... but I am now! It seems a lot shinier and more natural-looking in this shot, and actually makes her look younger (she's 43). Her skin is gorgeous, and I really like the bold copper liner underneath her eyes.
Emma's got a lot going on, but I actually love this playful and creative look. The artistic green and charcoal smoky eyes are obviously the focus, complemented by rosy pink lipstick, bold brows, a half-up top knot and floral-inspired jewellery.
Gina's smile is everything! Beauty-wise, I always think less is more on her—so the orange lipstick, natural skin and straight hair are all fantastic. I think her eye makeup could be better, though. The shadow isn't quite blended in a few spots, and I'd prefer a fluffier lash.
Kate's look is one you don't fully appreciate until you get up close. Then, you see her unconventional smoky shadow in a shimmery warm pink, with tightlined eyes and natural lashes. Her lips match, but the blush is warmer (so it's not too matchy-matchy).
Mandy is so radiant, we can overlook the Kermit the Frog green dress. Her sheer magenta lipstick and glowy cheeks are so pretty. (Maybe she just went a little too light on the under-eye concealer.) The hair, I'm on the fence about. I like the waves, but it's kind of mature.
As usual, Amanda played up her eyes with sparkly cool-toned shadow and liner (and like so many others here, wore it along her lower lash lines). My only complaint is that the false lashes could be more natural-looking. But she always has gorgeous hair, and I appreciate that she's not Botoxing her face!
I'm pretty sure Emilia lets her beauty team do whatever they want—hence we have this orangey-pink eyeshadow with a blackberry lipstick. You know what? For the occasion, I think it's cool (it's not meant to be "pretty"). And she wears it well, mostly because of her incredible, face-framing brows.
Emilia is wearing: Skin balm • Foundation • Concealer in Ivory • Highlighter in Sculpting • Blush in Naked Lies • Eyeshadow in Canons de Beaute • Eyeshadow in Mystère et Intensité (on eyes and lips) • Mascara • Brow pencil in Brown • Brow gel • Lip liner in Rouge Noir
I love the simplicity of Christina's makeup here (it's something we could actually copy!). She paired a soft grey (not black) liner with a shimmery champagne shadow and a pinky-red stain for an easy daytime look. Do you think the red hair is still working? I feel like she needs a softer colour now—more honey blonde.
It's been ages since we've seen Ginnifer on the red carpet, and her hair has gone from a short pixie to this lob with bangs. This hairstyle is so cute on her (the short bangs actually work with her round face shape) and the matte fuchsia lipstick is fab. I just think her brows should be a lot softer, not so drawn on.
