The annual Cannes Film Festival just wrapped—and after the craziness of the Met Gala, it was a welcome change of pace!
On this red carpet, you won't find any spiky lashes, colourful eyebrows or beehive hairdos. Instead, the crowd of models and movie stars served up fresh skin, elegant updos and an array of sophisticated eye and lip looks.
Keep scrolling for all the hair and makeup you need to see. We've got a lot to cover!
Selena, it's been a while! She looks adorable in graphic cat eyes with a bold red lip and a sleek updo. Note the natural brows and the soft texture of the lashes.
Selena is wearing: Moisturizer • Foundation in Y270 • Concealer in Light 23 • Powder in Siren 52 • Bronzer in Tan-Tastic 104 • Blush in Flesh & Fantasy 506 • Eyeshadow in Flashlight • Liquid liner in Blacquer • Mascara in Noir • Lipstick in Oh Miley 200
Amber matched her lipstick and eyeshadow to her dress, and I love this burgundy colour on her. She also pulls off the slicked-back hair. I just don't like the obvious faux freckles or heavy lashes.
Here, Amber wears a tight, sculptural updo with peachy lips and cheeks and brown smoky eyes. There's quite a bit of contouring, but it's well diffused.
I'm so glad Shailene ditched the bangs and brown-black hair! This shade, in a simple centre part, is so flattering on her, and I love the matte orange lipstick.
Shailene's smoky eyes are mesmerizing—and because there's no liner, they don't seem heavy. I just would have blended the contour and lip liner some more.
Elle looks like an absolute doll in this side-parted big bun with classic red lipstick and black liner. Her skin is so flawless!
Even though this was just before she fainted (!!), Elle is gorgeous in these kitten eyes and peachy lipstick. I'm not so crazy about the half-up hair, though.
I love how Priyanka is always experimenting with different makeup looks, like this bright baby blue liner. With subdued rose lips and cheeks, it really pops! (I just want to get the clump out of that one eyelash!)
For this look, Priyanka went a little vampier, wearing long waves with a rich raspberry lipstick and an open-space cat eye.
Margot skipped eye makeup (except for mascara) in favour of a rosy blush and a contoured lip, which has almost become her signature. But the limp hair and undone braids aren't doing her any favours!
Léa is always my favourite at Cannes, what with looks like this one. The curled-under bob, cool-toned red lipstick and orangey shadow (no liner!) are so chic.
Penélope is all bronzy and glowy in this light orange lipstick, matching blush and copper shadow. The false lashes are a little chunky, but not bad.
Julianne went with her usual soft plum tones for her smoky eyes, pairing them with a sheer pink blush and lip gloss.
I love how fresh Dua's skin looks—like she just had a facial! Her brows are incredible, but the lashes I find a bit too over-the-top.
Usually, flowers in your hair can look very "bridal," but Dakota makes them fashion. The silver eyeshadow is perfectly ethereal.
I'm loving Rita's voluminous ponytail with face-framing pieces. Her skin looks amazing, too, but I wish the brows were more feathery.
Bryce Dallas Howard
Bryce matched her lipstick to her hair, proving that redheads can wear (orangey) red. The updo with bangs is really cute on her.
This won't be for everyone, but I actually love it! The thick, graphic eyeliner and straight bangs give Charli such a unique and edgy look. It helps that her skin is peaches and cream perfection.
Chloë did the exact same look last year—bare skin with a tight updo, red lipstick and lashes—but it still works!
With Aishwarya, it's all about playing up those beautiful eyes. I like that she used the same shimmery warm copper on her lids and lips.
I love Marion, and this rich red lipstick and soft eye makeup. But you now what would make it better? Giving the brows some texture (so they're not so drawn on), and a peach blush (the pink is too cool-toned).
Olivia looks a bit out of place with her heavy contouring and lashes... not to mention her hard posing! But I will say that she has nice skin.
As usual, Adriana looks straight out of a magazine even in real life. The blush is a little bit '80s, but she wears it well.
I don't know what it is, but this one reminds me of an '00s Megan Fox! I love Adriana's vivid strawberry lip colour here.
I think Isabeli has one of the most creative and beautiful makeup looks: a bold reddish copper all the way up to her brows, with a creamy medium cool pink on her lips (and no blush). I'm obsessed!
Jasmine couldn't look more elegant in this ladylike updo and tone-on-tone makeup. I love the pop of brighter blush (but perhaps her lips don't need to be overlined).
Hooray, Alessandra did a red lip! She rarely does colour, but it's so pretty on her with this loose updo and her signature cat eyes.
Ming looks like she is lit from within! Her luminous skin, bold cat eyes, straight natural brows and peach lips are stunning.
Kendall chose a rose palette for her blush, lip gloss and eyeshadow, with a swipe of black liner to make her eyes pop. Her skin is looking super flawless these days.
Oh, how I love Josephine in a vampy lipstick. For added drama, she sculpted her lids with a bold brown shadow, but skipped liner to keep it modern.
Duckie wins for the most unexpected and fun makeup look—an all-metallic theme with shades of blue, green, purple, yellow and pink. So great with her blunt bangs!
Sara makes a strong case for tightlining with this black liner, worn with a smoky dark brown shadow. Since she kept the rest of her face (and hair) natural, it doesn't look heavy.
Who knew a glittery veil could look so cool? But Natasha didn't stop at that; she also did a bright purple shadow all the way around her eyes. I think the lashes are unnecesary, though.
Taylor is channeling the '80s with a big mane of curls, brown-toned makeup and her signature thick brows. If you look closely, you'll notice she has copper in her waterlines.
Izabel embraced a matchy-matchy look, and this black cherry lipstick is great on her. I'm glad she kept her eye makeup soft.
Martha played up her eyes with a dusting of gold shadow and jet-black lashes. The coral lipstick is a great shade for her, but her skin looks a bit inflamed. Maybe it's just the light.
Doutzen went super dramatic with her makeup, choosing a smoky black shadow, brushed-up brows and red lipstick. I find this too heavy, especially with her fair colouring.
I can't say I've ever seen neon pink eyeshadow with orange eyeliner in the lower waterlines. But Winnie makes it look pretty good! I just wish her lashes and brows were more natural.
As usual, Elsa made her eyes the focus with defined lashes, brushed-up brows and shading in the crease and along the lower lashes. I love the casual, beachy hair.
Coco is wearing the most artistic pair of cat eyes I've ever seen! Notice how her brows were bleached, to help show them off, and she skipped obvious blush.
I'm not sure about the curly updo, but I love seeing Bella in a red lipstick for a change. Also, whatever's on her eyes (it looks like an eye gloss of some kind?) is amazing.
Unfortunately, Bella showed up here looking very, very tweaked. Her face literally looks like it's being pulled up at the sides! Why didn't she quit while she was ahead?!
