After the Golden Globes, Critics' Choice and the SAG Awards, it was finally the UK's turn to celebrate the best in cinema on Sunday night. The annual BAFTA Awards (that's short for British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards) were held in London, with celebrity attendees from both sides of the pond.
The beauty memo was sophisticated glamour, and these looks don't disappoint. Here are the best of the night:
Emilia played up her baby blues by wearing black liner in her waterlines and subtle smoky shadow. Her skin is the other feature on display here, with her hair slicked down and off her face (and the gleaming highlighter on her shoulders and collarbones!). I remain obsessed with her eyebrows.
Zoë was another one to embrace a sleek, tight-to-the-head hairdo. But what I love most about this is how she accessorized her gold gown with pops of coral-red in her lipstick and earrings. As usual, her amazing bone structure, brows and signature kitten eyes make everything better.
Margot is back on her game, finally! I wasn't crazy about her SAG Awards look, but I do love this one. Her skin, with that subtle glow on her cheeks, is absolute perfection. Also notice the sparkly black liner, creamy nude lipstick and undone updo.
Zazie had my favourite look of the night: long braids, khaki eyes, and (as her makeup artist described them) the "deepest claret lips." I love how the shadow is placed at the outer corners of her eyes to extend their shape, and of course, her au naturel brows.
I don't know about her dress, but I like what Florence did here, makeup-wise. The orangey-red lipstick is unexpected and cool against the vibrant hot pink, and wearing her hair up keeps it clean and fresh. Love the lashes and brows as well!
Florence is wearing: Eye mask • Moisturizer • Eye cream • Mattifying cream • Foundation in Vanilla and Camomile • Tinted moisturizer in Wheat • Concealer in 3 and 4W • Powder in Subtle • Powder • Bronzer • Blush in Lively and Happy • Highlighter in Luster • Eyeshadow in Hummingbird • Eyeshadow in Sylvie • Eyeliner in Brown • Mascara • Lip balm • Lip liner in Darling • Lipstick in Tulipe
Did Charlize's hair have a growth spurt since the Golden Globes? It was much shorter before, so I assume she added length with extensions (which look really natural). She usually plays it safe with her makeup, but at least she ditched her usual neutrals for matching pink lips and lids.
Pink is clearly the new neutral eyeshadow. Naomie did it in a metallic shine that, along with the matching pinky-nude lipstick, is gorgeous with her skin tone. I also appreciate that she's wearing her curls long and loose.
Scarlett is stunning, but I don't get why she's been making the area under her eyes so light—it's a little distracting. Otherwise, I like the makeup; the pink eyeshadow is a perfect match to her slinky dress. Notice how the highlights at the inner corners of her eyes elevate the entire look.
Saoirse's updo was inspired by '50s and '60s rockabilly hairstyles, complete with pompadour faux bangs. Her lipstick colour was pulled from the earrings, and the lashes are bolder than usual for a more sophisticated vibe.
Is it just me or is Kate's hairstyle a little matronly for a 38-year-old? If it were flatter on top, I think it would look younger. (And face-framing pieces are needed... but those may be against the royal rules.) She went a little overboard on the orangey contour, but the makeup is basically fine—she looks good!
