ARTDECO just celebrated 30 years as Germany's number one prestige colour cosmetics line.
But chances are... you've never heard of them.
Well, this post is going to change all that. In case you didn't know, ARTDECO recently launched in Canada, and is now available at more than 60 Shoppers Drug Mart locations across the country as well as at BeautyBoutique.ca.
The brand offers an entire range of cosmetics, from lip colours to eyeshadow to foundation to mascara. I'm always down for discovering new makeup, so I tested out a few products to see how this European import really stacks up.
Here's what to try—and what to skip...
ARTDECO High Precision Liquid Liner
I swear, I've never created a winged eye as fast as I have with this liner. I'm talking under five minutes here, and for both eyes! This liner goes on really smooth, making application a breeze, and the fine tip easily draws thin or thick lines. Not only that, but it doesn't smudge or flake, and comes off easily with makeup remover, too.
This is the easiest-to-use liquid liner EVER. I can't say enough good things; it's a gem!
ARTDECO Hydra Lip Booster
Another one of my favourites from this brand is ARTDECO's Hydra Lip Booster in 36 Translucent Rosewood.
This is a gorgeous, dusty pink shade of lip gloss that isn't too sticky, as most glosses tend to be. I really like it!
This gloss comes in 14 other colours... and I happen to be coveting about 10 more of them!
ARTDECO Beauty Box Duo
ARTDECO is best known for its Beauty Boxes. These are refillable and magnetic boxes that you can customize to create your own colour palette. That way, you're never stuck with a palette that has shades you don't like!
The boxes are mirrored and keep your makeup protected, so are perfect to take on the go!
Again, I'm no shadow expert, but I'd say that's some pretty good colour payoff. And just look at that gold! So pretty.
From The Skincare Edit Archives
Since they have a TON of options in a whole bunch of finishes, there's definitely something for everyone. If you're looking for a new brand to test out some shadows, I'd say go for it!
ARTDECO Perfect Teint Illuminator
I was sent 1 Illuminating Pink and surprisingly, it was a little too light for my already fair skin. I wore it around my eyes and it was certainly brightening (maybe also because of the lightness). It has a nice consistency and blends well.
I think I'd like this in the right colour. I'm not a fan of the twist applicator, but it's definitely not a deal breaker!
Now, all of that being said, there are a couple things I tried that I think you could skip...
ARTDECO Lip Filler Base
ARTDECO's Lip Filler Base is a lip primer that claims to not only extend the wear of your lipstick, but also have a "lifting" effect.
Even though it looks beige in the tube, it applies pretty much without any colour. It goes on like a balm, but is a little thick in consistency and feels a bit thick on your lips.
I wore the Lip Filler Base for a day underneath this pink lipstick (forgive me for forgetting which lippie it was!). Usually, by the time lunch rolls around, my lipstick is pretty much gone. I'd say it lasted slightly longer by layering this product underneath, so I'd definitely use it again.
However, I don't know about the "lifting" part. Did they mean plumping? If so, I didn't notice any of that going on.
This is nice, and I'll use it when I remember, but otherwise I wouldn't say it's a must-have.
ARTDECO Eyeshadow Base
Truth be told, I've never used an eyeshadow primer, but I had high hopes for ARTDECO's Eyeshadow Base. It is supposed to make your powder eyeshadows "highly long-lasting, intense and brilliant."
Going on, it just looks like a shimmery, champagne shadow. I always thought eyeshadow base should be a little more opaque, to make the colour you pop over it stand out—right? Well, not this one.
When I put the Eyeshadows on top of it, the colours look the same to me; not intensified or more "brilliant" at all. I even tested it with a few other shadows I have and nada! No difference at all. So if you're looking for a primer to really boost the colour of your shadows, I'd say search for another.
The kicker for me is that it also smells like men's deodorant. And I really don't want my eyelids smelling like a man's armpit, you know what I mean?
There were a couple misses for me (eyeshadow base, I'm talking about you). But what I tried is only a fraction of their huge range, so there's bound to be something for everyone. Just don't skip that amazing liner!
