Ahhh... we're already in 2015, and it's taken me this long to share with you my "best of 2014" list! Believe me, I've been workin' on this post since December, but then I kept thinking of things to add to it... and then I got the flu... and then I went to California... and now here we are. But better late than never, right?
This list, which is in no particular order, represents my very favourite NEW beauty products of the year 2014. That means I'm focusing on stuff that launched in the last 12 months only—because if I were to list everything else that I love, well, I'd probably still be writing this in 2017.
Here we go, in no particular order!
Yves Saint Laurent Baby Doll Kiss & Blush
Yves Saint Laurent Baby Doll Kiss & Blush is a bit splurgey, but I can't live without this creamy and easy-to-blend mousse. It gives cheeks the most gorgeous flush (and doubles as a matte lip colour). See my full review here.
Sonia Kashuk Dewy Luxe Lip & Cheek Balm
Sonia Kashuk Dewy Luxe Lip & Cheek Balm has been a handbag staple of mine for MONTHS. While the YSL is creamy, this is more gel-like and gives a stronger stain, as well as a slightly dewy finish. See my full review here.
Make Up For Ever HD Blush
Make Up For Ever HD Blush is my go-to blush if I want seamless colour that (like all MUFE products) lasts and lasts. It's kind of a cream-powder hybrid, if you will, and gives a very second-skin effect. See my full review here.
L'Oréal Paris Visible Lift Blur Blush
L'Oréal Paris Visible Lift Blur Blush is a fab drugstore blush that I swear is super similar to the (way pricier) Armani Blushing Fabric. It's a gel texture that works into the skin almost like a stain. See my full review here.
Rimmel Stay Blushed! Liquid Cheek Tint
Rimmel Stay Blushed! Liquid Cheek Tint is yet another drugstore blush find that's a dupe for a higher-end product. I thought this one was extremely similar to YSL's old Crème de Blush, with a great moussey texture and flushed-from-within effect. See my full review here.
Marc Jacobs Kiss Pop Lip Color Stick
Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Tulip
Dior Addict Fluid Stick
Dior Addict Fluid Stick is the one gloss I've been into. It gives you tons of pigment, with a non-sticky, water-based texture. (Really, the texture of this stuff is outstanding!) See my full review here.
Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet
Guerlain Rouge Automatique Lip Color
Guerlain Rouge Automatique Lip Color is what I've been reaching for whenever I feel like traditional lipstick. It's hydrating, with a semi-shiny finish. I love the chic packaging, too. See my full review here.
Revlon ColorStay Moisture Stain
Revlon ColorStay Moisture Stain is what I wore the entire month of August. It's somewhat similar to the Dior—giving you glossy, long-wearing colour—but with a broader shade range.
NARS Velvet Lip Liner
NARS Velvet Lip Liner does not budge, so it's perfect for overdrawing your lips. And it comes in both nude shades and brights.
Marc Jacobs Twinkle Pop Eye Stick
Marc Jacobs Twinkle Pop Eye Stick is a waterproof cream eyeshadow in a stick—which sounds like it would be easy to find, but no. The champagne shade is my ultimate, not too warm nor too cool nor too glittery, and stays put forever. See my full review here.
Benefit Gimme Brow
How many times have I mentioned Benefit Gimme Brow? A kajillion. It was the first of the next-gen brow products, with tiny fibers that adhere to your hairs to bulk up the brows. I still use it daily to build up my inner "fans." See my full review here.
Maybelline Brow Drama
Lancôme Grandiôse Mascara
Rimmel Wonder'Lash Mascara
Tarte Amazonian Clay Dual Liner
Tarte Amazonian Clay Dual Liner gives you two colours of waterproof gel liner in one pot—one side is black, the other is brown. These are seriously budge-proof! Apply with an angled brush.
Smashbox Always Sharp Waterproof Kôhl Liner
Smashbox Always Sharp Waterproof Kôhl Liner is my new favourite eye pencil. It sharpens automatically (within the cap), delivers a nice fine line of colour and is waterproof. What more do you need?!
Pixi H2O Skin Tint
Maybelline Dream Wonder Liquid Touch Foundation
I was surprised at how much I liked Maybelline Dream Wonder Liquid Touch Foundation. For me, the colour match was perfect (which never happens at mass) and the finish is a dupe for Armani Maestro. See my full review here.
Sephora Collection Instant Nail Polish Remover for Glitter
If you've ever struggled with removing glitter nail polish, Sephora Collection Instant Nail Polish Remover for Glitter is for you. It's as easy as dipping a finger in, swishing it around, and BAM! Glitter gone.
NARS Top Coat
I didn't expect NARS Top Coat to be anything special... but it really is. It's somewhat thick, but dries fast and forms an amazing high-shine seal. I'm pretty sure my nails aren't chipping as quickly.
John Frieda Luxurious Volume Touchably Full Shampoo for Colour-Treated Hair
I've talked a lot about John Frieda Luxurious Volume Touchably Full Shampoo for Colour-Treated Hair—simply put, I think they have the best shampoo for fine, colour-treated hair at the drugstore. It doesn't weigh you down OR strip your colour. See my full review here.
Matrix Biolage VolumeBloom Shampoo
At the salon level, Matrix Biolage VolumeBloom Shampoo is my current favourite, made for fine hair and also colour-safe. Your hair just feels so darn bouncy and CLEAN after using it. I love the fresh scent, too.
Kevin Murphy Angel.Masque
Kevin Murphy Angel.Masque is a deep-conditioning and strengthening mask for fine, colour-treated hair. It has made such a difference to my usually ratty ends, even my hairstylist commented! See my full review here.
Footner Exfoliating Socks
Footner Exfoliating Socks are one of these "Baby Foot" type peels that help with calluses and dry heels. The peeling process is disgusting but SO satisfying!
Consonant Skin Perfecting Body Scrub
Consonant Skin Perfecting Body Scrub is made with sugar and salt to exfoliate, plus coconut, olive and castor oils to moisturize. It's so nourishing, you won't even need body lotion. See my full review here.
