From The Estée Edit to Ole Henriksen: 13 of the Best New Beauty Products

Colour-transforming lipstick, face mist and more.

Can you believe it's May already?!?

I'm back with your monthly beauty shopping list: the most important, exciting new launches out of the many products that crossed my desk.

The Estée Edit by Estée Lauder Lip Flip Shade Transformer in Turn Up

The Estée Edit by Estée Lauder Lip Flip Shade Transformer in 01 Turn Up

So Estée Lauder has a brand new makeup line, The Estée Edit, and the star product is this Lip Flip Shade Transformer in Turn Up. You're meant to wear it on top of or underneath other (opaque) lipsticks to brighten their colour. I don't know if "brighten" is exactly the right word... what it does, after a little finger-blending, is take your reds and hot pinks lighter, creamier and more warm-toned. Which is right up my alley, because peaches, corals and oranges are my absolute favourite lip shades to wear. Surprisingly useful and my favourite launch this month—the warm tones flatter everyone!

Ole Henriksen Grease Relief Facial Water

Ole Henriksen Grease Relief Facial Water

I never met a face mist I didn't like, but what's unique about Ole Henriksen Grease Relief Facial Water is that it's not just hydrating—it's also exfoliating with lactic acid, my favourite gentle acid. There are also some herbs in here that soothe redness and give it a subtly spicy scent. I do wish the ingredients were a little more natural, but this would be a great summer skin refresher for combo and oily types. It also comes in Nurture Me for dry skin and Truth for dull skin.

Givenchy Healthy Glow Bronzer

Givenchy Healthy Glow Bronzer

It's no secret that I don't like most bronzers—on my pale skin, I almost always find them too dark, too orange, too shimmery, too powdery. But Givenchy's Healthy Glow Bronzer is a gorgeous exception. This is the same formula as the old Poudre Bonne Mine shown here, just a new name and two new shades: 01 Première Saison and 03 Ambre Saison. The lightest, 01, is just perfect for me; one of the best bronzers I've ever tried. It's also a talc-free gel formula that doesn't leave visible texture on the skin.

Chanel Stylo Eyeshadow in Beige dore

Chanel Stylo Eyeshadow in 157 Beige dore

Every once in a while, Chanel releases limited-edition shades of its Stylo Eyeshadow, which is one of my favourites to collect: a long-wearing cream format in an easy-to-use stick applicator. I'm a sucker for shimmery champagnes like 157 Beige dore, which works day or night and is pretty much foolproof. I also like 197 Vert Grisé for a soft grey smoky eye. These don't crease on me!

Hourglass Ambient Light Correcting Primer

Hourglass Ambient Light Correcting Primer in Luminous Light

The problem with a lot of primers is that they have an icky silicone feeling and they suck the life out of your complexion. Not the new Ambient Light Correcting Primer from Hourglass. I mean, yes, it's silicone, but it doesn't feel that way; it's more creamy and hydrating, although still oil-free. The best part is how well it blurs imperfections, boosts your glow and evens out your tone—so you might even be able to go sans foundation! The effect is VERY impressive. There are three shades and my pick is the lightest, Luminous Light. Don't worry, these have no shimmer.

Elizabeth Arden Skin Illuminating Retexturizing Pads

Elizabeth Arden Skin Illuminating Retexturizing Pads

I'm obsessed with exfoliating pads, as you know, and these Skin Illuminating Retexturizing Pads are the latest to enter my rotation. I don't usually pay attention to Elizabeth Arden, but these are amongst the best glycolic acid pads I've found! Besides the AHA, there's also the peptide arginine in here, and the pads are slightly textured so you get a bit of a physical buffing as well.

NARS Under Cover Dual-Intensity Blush

NARS Dual-Intensity Blush in Liberation

From The Skincare Edit Archives

The illustrations on the outer packaging of NARS' "Under Cover" summer collection are so adorbs, I was kinda disappointed that the insides are the usual plain black! This limited-edition range includes eyeshadow singles (meh) and Lip Covers (goopy liquid lipsticks). But all is redeemed with the Dual-Intensity Blush! There are two: Liberation is shimmering light pink and caramel rose, and Sexual Content is sandy peach and soft raspberry. They go on silky and sheer, so both actually work for me—but can be intensified if you apply wet.

Kye for Shu Uemura Eyebrow Manicure

Kye for Shu Uemura Eyebrow Manicure in Dark Rose

Brow mascara has long been my product of choice for grooming the eyebrows, but how about brow mascara in non-traditional tints?! Oh yes, the new Kye for Shu Uemura collection features the Eyebrow Manicure in Dark Rose (purplish deep brown) and Dark Violet (blue-toned deep grey). On me, Dark Rose is the best shade and is actually quite subtle/wearable, although you can definitely build it up to more intensity. I'm so impressed by the hold of the mascara itself that I now want to check it out in its original shade range. The Cushion Blush in Hibiscus Orange is also worth a look!

OPI Nail Lacquer in Oh My Majesty!

OPI Nail Lacquer in Oh My Majesty!

For spring, I'm really feeling white nails! But not opaque white, like seasons past. I'm into semi-sheer, opalescent whites like Oh My Majesty! from OPI's Alice Through the Looking Glass collection. It's described as a pearly alabaster and is a great choice if you're looking for a non-boring, goes-with-everything neutral.

Rimmel Volume Colourist Mascara

Rimmel Volume Colourist Mascara

Weird coincidence: just weeks before I was sent Rimmel Volume Colourist Mascara, I'd been looking to see if any brand besides Hard Candy had a lash stain on offer. Well, now the answer is yes—sort of. This product gradually darkens your natural lashes, but the catch is you need to give it two weeks of continuous use. I've only done about a week, but I can see some subtle darkening. The only downside is that it does have the tendency to flake a bit, so you might want to try and seal it with a top coat like Clarins Double Fix.

Caudalie Grape Water

Caudalie Grape Water

You can tell I really love face mists; here's the second one on this month's list! Caudalie has a limited-edition packaging of its cult-favourite Grape Water out, which I love for its purity and wide range of uses. I use this stuff all the time to set my makeup or take away a too-powdery look; it's also great under moisturizer or as a mid-day skin wake-up. The grape water is anti-inflammatory and helps soothe sensitive skin (plus no other weird ingredients in here to irritate).

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Lipstick

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Lipstick in 003 Red Heels

I do love a Guerlain lipstick. The brand's La Petite Robe Noire range is the girliest launch yet—those clear hearts had me at hello! The formula itself is sheer but buildable with a glossy finish, and comes in 20 shades. I tried the four "Star" shades (what they consider the must-haves) and oh em gee, 003 Red Heels is the BEST. It's a little bit orangey and shall be my go-to summer red! I also like 007 Black Perfecto, a sheer blackened berry. They did matching nail polishes as well, if that's how you roll.

Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in Turban

Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in 524 Turban

Here in Canada, sandal season is just around the corner, and I always need to have a great pinky-coral for my toes. (Because unlike straight-up red or straight-up pink, coral is in between, therefore matches everything.) I'll be wearing 524 Turban from Chanel's new and improved Le Vernis Nail Colour collection. This is an upgrade to their old formula because it's more long-wearing and chip-resistant. There are 16 shades to choose from, 11 of which (including Turban) are brand new!

The best new beauty products to try this month!

I really like my selects this month (if I don't say so myself!). If you do nothing else, check out the Lip Flip—I'm VERY keen to hear your thoughts. Yes, I'm on a mission to get more people wearing coral lipstick!
