Billboard Music Awards 2016: The Best Skin, Hair and Makeup Looks on the Red Carpet
The annual Billboard Music Awards are just the ticket if you love a little fun and experimentation on the red carpet.
Forget the hyper-groomed, old Hollywood beauty looks that we saw during award season. Here, it was all about undone hairstyles, unconventional eyeshadow and nude and glossy lips.
Take a look at the best hair and makeup of the night:
Rihanna
Rihanna's hazel eyes look beautiful in brown smoky shadow with black liner along the upper lash lines. I love that she kept it subdued with natural lashes and a light nude lip. I always did love the bob on her best, so I'm happy to see it return, although I might brush out her waves a tad.
Ciara
Ciara's bangs are perfect—the length, the thickness, the colour and the longer side pieces. She's been killing it lately in the hair department! Her skin looks beautiful, too, and I like the soft charcoal shadow and pinky-nude lipstick. I would just blend that bottom lip liner.
Lucy Hale
Lucy always looks amazing in purples, and here, she subtly matched her eyeshadow to her dress. Pulling her hair back in a low ponytail shows off her flawless skin, fluffy lashes and feathery brows. So pretty!
Jessica Alba
Jessica took a risk with this bold blue shadow in a graphic shape, but I think it's working! (And if any event is the right place to wear it, this is it.) The rest of the makeup is barely-there, while the undone top knot adds to the fun.
Kelly Rowland
Kelly's off-the-face hairdo looks effortless, like she just pushed it back out of the shower (in a good way!). Her skin absolutely glows, and it looks like she's not even wearing foundation—just a little lip gloss and eye makeup. I am also marvelling at her lovely teeth!
Kate Beckinsale
Kate's shimmering, gold-rimmed eyes are proof that you don't need heaps of dark shadow, liner and lashes to "stand out." A pink lip adds subtle contrast, while the messy ponytail has sexy vibe. I might have defined her brows a tad more, though.
Mila Kunis
From The Skincare Edit Archives
Mila has fantastic lids for eyeshadow, and this iridescent mauvey taupe is such a unique shade. Her dark, arched brows frame her face perfectly, as usual, and the top knot is a nice change from wearing her hair down.
Meghan Trainor
Meghan did colour on her eyes, but this pink is so sheer and wearable, it doesn't overpower her features. I like the red hair as well, even if the styling here isn't the most modern.
Halsey
I find Halsey so refreshing because she has her own style—the short hair, the freckles, the au naturel brows. Peach is a great lipstick shade for her. But I don't particularly like this pair of false lashes (too spindly), and something is wonky on one eye—is that the strip lifting up?
Demi Lovato
Demi's freckles always add a cute touch to her look, even if I find her makeup too heavy. I think it's the drawn-on brows that make this a bit harsh, along with the heavy eyeliner and unblended lip liner. She doesn't need so much!
Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka is all easy breezy in messy, undone hair and low-key makeup (a far cry from the "prom" vibes she used to serve up). The soft pink lips are especially pretty. But I'd make her brows softer instead of so sharp and angular.
Heidi Klum
Heidi went for classic beachy waves and her favourite chunky lashes. That means top AND bottom false lashes (which I will never understand!). But hey, at least she skipped her usual white eyeliner in her waterlines!
Kesha
Kesha has new hair—and the blonde colour, choppy bangs and wavy texture really flatter her. Makeup-wise, I think these lashes are semi-okay since they're fluffy, and this is a music awards show, after all. But dang, her lips look very bloated and obviously injected.
Ariana Grande
Is Ariana STILL doing this ponytail? She's too young to fall into such a beauty rut already. And her makeup is so dry, there's just no life here! The greyish matte overdrawn lips are a trend that needs to die now.
Britney Spears
Britney's beauty look is far from aspirational, but you still kind of love her, right? That is the appeal of Britney. With the deep spray tan, light blonde hair and light pink lips, I'm getting Tanning Mom flashbacks here. And then black eyeliner and false lashes on top of that... oh my!
