"I haven't always been a skincare girl," admits Camila Mendes.
"But I also never wore that much makeup before Riverdale," the 25-year-old—best known for her role as Veronica Lodge—recently explained to Vogue.
"So now... I need to compensate for all the makeup that I wear on set. I had good skin when I wasn't clogging my pores, but now it's a 15-hour day of clogging pores."
As a result, she's had to become diligent about caring for her complexion with a routine that includes targeted products, frequent facials and as much sleep as possible.
"My skin is pretty balanced, but it does get on the drier side... [and] I break out a lot more than I ever did as a teenager. But I've been better at not picking. I pick so much, and it's hard to resist," she revealed in interviews with Harper's Bazaar and HelloGiggles.

Camila’s Morning Skincare Routine
Tracie Martyn Amla Purifying Cleanser: "My first step is always, of course, to wash my face. I like to use Tracie Martyn Purifying Cleanser. Three pumps, and then mix it with water."
Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash: "It smells so good. It's like a minty smell!"
Burt's Bees Rosewater Toner: "Rosewater toner from Burt's Bees. Toner is really good for balancing out your pH."
Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist: "I really stick to my toners. My Jurlique rosewater spray. That's my go-to."
Whal Myung WM5 Inner Glow Moisturizing Serum: "Next step is serum. I use Whal Myung's Inner Glow Moisturizing Serum. This brand was introduced to me by Prabal Gurung, who took me to the Met [Gala] last year. I feel like every time I work with him, he always sends me Whal Myung products. So that's how I heard of them and I've fallen in love."
4. Face Roller:
Nurse Jamie UpLift Facial Massaging Beauty Roller: "After serum, while that's setting, I kind of like to use a little beauty roller."
Renée Rouleau Skin Recovery Lotion: "After massaging my face, go in for the moisturizer. I recently started using Renée Rouleau Skin Recovery Lotion."
Sulwhasoo Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Cream: "I'll put it on before going to work because I know I'm going to have a long day of wearing makeup and that dries out your skin—or at least it dries out my skin."
Tracie Martyn Face Resculpting Cream: "But if I'm just having a normal day, I'll probably put something on that's a little lighter. Tracie Martyn has a facial Resculpting Cream which is pretty light and good for daytime."
Beautycounter Countermatch Adaptive Moisture Lotion: "It adapts to the natural moisture level of your skin. As soon as you put it on, it naturally fits into your skin type."
6. Face Oil:
Kate Somerville Dilo Oil Restorative Treatment: "Then I dab a little bit of the Kate Somerville restorative oil on it to make it more dewy."
7. Eye Creams:
Nyakio Quinoa Depuffing & Firming Eye Cream: "It's a quinoa de-puffing and firming eye cream. I find that my eyes get really puffy, especially if I'm doing a scene on set where I'm crying a lot or something. I'll wake up the next morning with really puffy eyes."
Kate Somerville Goat Milk De-Puffing Eye Balm: "It's like a goat milky balm that I lather on all over my eyes."
ILIA True Skin Radiant Priming Serum: "My first [makeup] step, True Skin Radiant Priming Serum by ILIA Beauty. This serum will help get that glow and bring it out after applying foundation and stuff. And it's also a priming serum, so it helps the makeup stick."
ILIA True Skin Serum Foundation: "I like to use a Beautyblender to apply foundation, and the foundation I use is, of course, ILIA Beauty True Skin Serum Foundation. I'm not really a big makeup user in my day to day life—I try to wear as little makeup as possible."
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation: "When I want to look fresh and like I get more sleep than I actually do, I'll put on Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation."
Flesh Firm Flesh Stick Foundation: "It's the perfect balance of foundation and concealer because it's thick enough to feel like you're being covered, but it's also not a foundation, so it's thin enough to put on your bare skin and blend in with your skin. And it's a little matte, but it kind of blends into the natural oils of your skin. It's the greatest product for travelling. I don't like to wear a lot of makeup when I go to the airport because already travelling is terrible for your skin. So I try to really minimize the amount that I put on. I just put a little bit of this under my eyes, over my blemishes, always around my nose because I get red, around my mouth just to even it out a little bit, and that's pretty much all I wear to the airport."
ILIA True Skin Serum Concealer: "After foundation, I put on concealer. For the eyes, I blend it in immediately, and then when I go to cover blemishes, I kind of let the product dry first, or just kind of set, so that when I do go to blend it, it's a little bit thicker if that makes sense. Sometimes I go do another layer of concealer under my eyes. But it's always like, I still want to look human, you know? I don't want to look like I've been air-brushed."
Shiseido Concealer: "[If] I'm still not satisfied with how [a blemish] is being covered... that's usually when I'll come in with another concealer, the Shiseido Concealer. It's thicker and I feel like it really stays on. I feel like it does a better job of actually concealing it."
Glossier Stretch Concealer: "I'm obsessed with [it]."
ILIA Soft Focus Finishing Powder: "The negative side of these kinds of blemishes is that they're raised and they pick up light really easily, so it's hard to hide them. But I'll usually get the cap of my ILIA powder, and I'll get one of the little remnants of powder that are there and then I'll just pat it on here, just so it stops looking so shiny."
ILIA Liquid Light Serum Highlighter: "Next step is highlighter. I'm using a lot of ILIA products, but listen, when you find what works, you just stick to it. I hate when you can really see makeup, especially when it comes to face makeup."
ILIA Multi-Stick: "This is when I put on my blush slash eyeshadow. A multistick. So it is multipurpose. It's really creamy and light, so the more I blend it in, the more it kind of disappears, which I like. I do three passes on my cheeks. It looks really strong, and then I [buff it in]. And then, just so it's not too heavy, I'll go pass it over with the Beautyblender again. I definitely don't like to see where the makeup stops and the hairline begins, so I do go into the hair."
14. Lip Balm:
Sulwhasoo Essential Lip Serum Stick in No. 2 Blossom: "This colour doesn't go on too strong, so it adds just a little bit of pop on my lips. I don't have big lips, but I'll tell you one thing. I'm never getting them filled."
15. Face Mist:
Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist: "My last step of the process is just spraying the Tatcha dewy mist on my face. It's really light, but I think after all the powder it's nice to give a little bit more dewiness again."
Camila’s Nighttime Skincare Routine
1. Face Wipes:
Burt's Bees Sensitive Facial Cleansing Towelettes: "I use Burt's Bees. I don't love using makeup wipes because I feel like it's like rubbing paper on your face, but also I think they just work the fastest and I ain't got time to waste. Even if I think I'm going to end up sleeping with makeup on, by the time I get to bed, I'm like, 'No, I can't do it.' Like, I have to wash it off. You can feel that layer seeping into your pores. Especially with wipes like this, it really doesn't take that long."
Renée Rouleau Rapid Response Detox Cleanser: "I like to use Renée Rouleau, which is a brand that Lili [Reinhart] introduced me to. She's a facialist that Lili sees sometimes and loves and swears by. So I've fallen in love with her, too, because her products actually work."
Tracie Martyn Absolute Purity Toner: "Next step, toner—which is something I introduced in my life recently and I'm loving it because it makes sense. You gotta balance the pH in your skin. I think that's right. I'm not a dermatologist, so don't take everything I say... just take it all with a grain of salt, you know? I use Tracie Martyn, who is my facialist in New York whenever I'm here. So I put two little spritzes on my hands [and then pat it on]. I don't use cotton pads because I feel like it's just wasteful."
iS Clinical Active Serum: "[When I have a breakout,] I usually use the iS Clinical Active Serum that my facialist gave me. I put it on before I put on my moisturizer. It's one of those things that's active, so it actually works and you can feel it working when you put it on. It feels really cool and nice, and I know because I accidentally got some on a paper cut and it hurt really bad. I was like, this must be working!"
Whal Myung WM5 Inner Glow Moisturizing Serum: "Korean skincare, man. They just really know what they're doing. I put one and half squirts of it just for that little extra moisture."
Sulwhasoo Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Cream: "So what I'm putting on right now is my favourite moisturizer.... another Korean skincare brand. It's a little on the thicker side, so I try to use it mostly at night. I think I just try to layer on as much moisture as I can."
Dr. Barbara Sturm Face Cream: "It's the creamiest, richest face cream."
6. Lip Balm:
Frank Body Lip Balm: "It's a coffee-scented lip serum. I just like it because it smells like coffee and I'm obsessed with coffee."
7. Face Roller:
Nurse Jamie UpLift Facial Massaging Beauty Roller: "So once all of my products have been put on, my following step is to do a little face roller. I also do this in the morning and I keep it in the fridge usually so it gets nice and cool. When I massage my face with it, it feels like it's de-puffing. I feel like it's good to do this morning and night."
8. Spot Treatment:
Renée Rouleau Anti Bump Solution: "In talking to some of the estheticians that I see, they talk about how a lot of people will over-dry their blemishes instead of assessing each one individually. Because sometimes what you need is a product that will help bring that blemish to the surface instead of immediately drying it. So I have these Renée Rouleau products and each one does a different thing depending on the blemish. But first, I'll kind of go over each blemish [with a Q-tip] and take off whatever product is still there, just slightly. The Anti-Bump Solution by Renée Rouleau... is more about treating blemishes that aren't whiteheads yet. It's like pre-whitehead stage or cystic pimples. I squirt a little bit on a Q-tip and I don't really need to put too much."
Camila’s Skincare Treatments
Renée Rouleau Triple Berry Smoothing Peel: "Especially after I travel, I like to go that extra step and do a mask to kind of help my skin deal with the trauma and the dryness of travel. So I use Renée Rouleau's Triple Berry Smoothing Peel followed by her Detox Masque. It looks like you murdered someone and then smeared their blood on your face. You can leave it on from five minutes to 15 minutes."
Renée Rouleau Rapid Response Detox Masque: "This one is my favourite because it smells so good. It's got that perfect amount of thickness that just, like—look at it, it's goopy. And it feels so good going on your skin. It smells like relaxation."
Tracie Martyn: "I love going there. The facials are actually the kind of facials where you notice a difference immediately."
Kate Somerville: "I go to Kate Somerville in L.A. a lot. They give great facials, and it's relaxing. I was recommended there by my co-star Lili [Reinhart], and she's like a skin expert, so I feel like if she says something's good, I immediately do it."
"When I'm filming a lot I try to get [facials] once every two weeks because I wear so much makeup on set and it's just getting caked on.”
"I do it to just kind of exfoliate and then I can see all the makeup that's been stuck into my pores. So that helps a lot!"
Camila’s Diet, Exercise and Lifestyle
"I feel like skincare isn't just about the products you use. It's also about how you're taking care of yourself, like what you're eating, how much water you're drinking."
"I've struggled with bulimia. About a year ago, I got to a point when I realized I needed to see someone. So I went to a therapist, and she recommended a nutritionist as well, and seeing both of them changed my life. So much of the anxiety I had about food went away when I started learning more about nutrition. My nutritionist completely cured my fear of carbs. She also cured my addiction to dieting. I was always on some kind of weird diet, but I haven't been on one since. I'm very proud of myself."
"I try a lot of different classes, but I always come back to yoga and Pilates. Those are the workouts that bring me joy. It's about dedicating time to me and making myself stronger, healthier, and happier."
"Truthfully, I feel like the secret to everything is just sleeping enough. That's the simplest way to keep your skin looking clear and healthy, and when I don't sleep enough, I really start to see the effects of that in my skin."
"I love taking baths. Light some candles, throw in a bath bomb, listen to music, and just breathe and meditate. I recently got an apartment that has a bathtub in it—usually it's just showers, so I never had that luxury. But now that I have a bath, it's changed my life."
"Massages have always kind of been my thing. I try to go twice a month. When I'm in Vancouver, I have this Thai spa that I go to that's really calm and zen, and it's not super bougie—it's just this really humble, modest place. And the masseuses are incredible. Those are usually the types of massage spas I lean toward. I feel like the bougie ones can be a little much. I just want a good therapist."
"I feel my most beautiful when I'm really taking care of myself, mentally and physically. When you're overworking yourself or when you're putting too much on your plate, making your schedule too packed with things to do, then you become the last priority in your life, you know? Everything else is important but you're ignoring yourself."
