Cannes Film Festival 2016: The Best Skin, Hair and Makeup Looks on the Red Carpet
The Cannes Film Festival is always a sure thing for beauty eye candy—whether it's Kristen Stewart's burgundy eyeshadow, Bella Hadid's sculpted skin or Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's red lipstick.
Below, I've rounded up the must-see hair and makeup from all the photocalls and premieres. There's a lot to see here, so first impressions will be short and rapid-fire!
Kristen Stewart
Kristen took a big risk with this burgundy shadow—applied all the way around her eyes—and I think it paid off! The look is very cool and runway-inspired, with natural lashes, fresh skin and an edgy bleached-blonde crop.
Bella Hadid
Bella doesn't look like she's wearing foundation, and her skin has such a natural glow. I love the soft shading on her eyelids, and the fluttery upper lashes. (See, falsies are fine when they're done RIGHT!)
Bella is wearing: Moisturizer • Foundation in 3 Fair • Concealer in 2 Fair • Contour and highlighter • Blush in First Love • Powder in 1 Fair • Eyeshadow in The Sophisticate • Eyeshadow in The Dolce Vita • Mascara in Glossy Black • Lipstick in Penelope Pink
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
It's rare to see Rosie in a red lip OR an updo, and here we're getting both! She's so elegant and ladylike in this matchy-matchy look with a high bun, black liner and soft lashes. The blush/contour is a bit strong, but not too bad.
Aishwarya Rai
Aishwarya really went for it with this light, cool-toned purple lipstick! It's so unexpected and fun, and I'm glad she wore her hair up to show it off. But I wouldn't have made the eyeshadow so dark and heavy-handed, and I'd rather see a peachy blush.
Charlize Theron
This raspberry lipstick is outstanding on Charlize, as is her side-parted wavy lob (my favourite hairstyle for her). Her brows are looking more natural than in the past, and I like the subtle eye definition.
Jessica Chastain
Jessica's natural-looking brows and soft makeup continue to impress me. I especially like the rose lipstick colour and the silver shadow up to her crease. It looks like she went a bit shorter with her lob.
Bella Heathcote
Bella accentuated her flawless skin with a vibrant matte orangey-red lipstick, and little other makeup. The side-parted straight lob, flipping out at the ends, adds to the modern fresh feel.
Lily-Rose Depp
How great is Lily-Rose's flash of bright gold eyeshadow, surrounded by black liner in a feline shape? It's perfect paired with full brows, peachy-nude lipstick and undone, half-up hair. She's definitely one to watch.
Kendall Jenner
Kendall slicked back her hair and enhanced her eyes with lots of smoky shadow (which is nicely blended). But thanks to dewy skin and defined lashes, the effect isn't overly aggressive. She just needs to blend her contour and lip liner.
Marion Cotillard
Marion paired her gold gown with a creamy berry lipstick, bold but soft brows and just mascara'd lashes. It's all very effortlessly French! Wearing her hair in a neat updo keeps the focus on her lovely skin.
Riley Keough
Riley's hair is so impressively thick and healthy, and I love her low-key makeup. It looks like she just played up her lower lash lines with some lighter eyeliner and lots of mascara, and then added a slick of berry-rose lipstick. Great brows, too!
Irina Shayk
I don't think we've ever seen Irina looking this fresh-faced and glowy. To me, she is even more beautiful than usual without all the artifice and with her hair in a simple top knot.
Adèle Exarchopoulos
Adèle left her face basically bare, except for the little flicks of black winged eyeliner. That and the sheer lip gloss are all she needs to dress up her centre-parted updo.
Alessandra Ambrosio
I love that Alessandra left her hair down, for a more casual vibe on this red carpet. The makeup is amazing, too: dramatic cat eyes and a peachy palette for her lips, lids and cheeks.
Jourdan Dunn
Jourdan went all ethereal with a loose updo and shimmering neutrals on her lips and eyelids. The lashes are long but clean, and graphic black liner grounds the look.
Mischa Barton
Mischa did a strong eye look here, wearing a shimmering metallic grey with black liner in her waterlines. It's perfectly balanced by the muted pink lip and romantic wavy updo.
Rebecca Hall
Some people end up too "done" and stiff on the red carpet, but not Rebecca—she looks like herself, and fully comfortable. I love the rosy lip colour, and it's always great to see freckles that aren't covered up by heavy foundation.
Ana de Armas
Ana's hair is my new obsession—I love the slight bend and the strategically placed highlights. Her soft smoky eyes and flushed cheeks are also super pretty.
Naomi Watts
Naomi breathed new life into her blonde lob with this vintagey side-swept style. But a red lip would've been too predictable, so the pop of bright fuchsia makes it fun. The black liner are lashes are a bit strong, but okay.
Julia Roberts
Julia wore her menswear-inspired outfit with a messy low ponytail and a pretty coral lip shade. Her brows look nice, and I like that her lashes aren't screaming for attention. But I'm not loving the eyeliner for some reason, and her hair colour is very brassy.
Karlie Kloss
Karlie is so gorgeous, but I'm not sure how I feel about this hairband and bow (or the false lashes!). The girly hair look doesn't seem to go with the outfit, which is more edgy. But I can get on board with the flushed cheeks and rosy lips.
Blake Lively
Blake looks adorable in a beachy textured ponytail, cute freckles and a thick fringe of lashes. I like that her brows were kept so soft, and that she did a sheer pink lip gloss instead of red to match her jumpsuit. Sometimes not matching is better!
Blake is wearing: Foundation • Blush in Soft Pink • Eyeshadow in Nude Intense • Mascara • Lipstick in Blake's Pink
Elle Fanning
Elle looks like a doll in this voluminous, curled-under blowout and pretty peach lipstick. If you look closely, you can see her freckles and subtle winged liner. And she has an impressive set of full brows.
