"My skin isn't amazing right now," Emily Ratajkowski recently admitted to her Instagram followers. "I've been picking a lot because I'm at home."
The 28-year-old model and actress—best known for her appearances in Gone Girl and Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" video—never used to have problem skin.
In fact, she once told the New York Times that "honestly, I don't break out." And unlike most celebs, who have a team of estheticians on call, she only got into facials last year.
But quarantining at home has wreaked havoc on her complexion (not that you could tell from her daily selfies!).
"My skin kind of freaked out," she explained in a chat with Dr. Shereene Idriss. "I was posting and telling everyone because I was like, 'What the hell?' And then there were all these articles that were basically like, yeah, people's skin [is] just freaking out during this time. So I've recently started a new routine and it's actually getting better."

Emily’s Morning Skincare Routine
Dr Loretta Gentle Hydrating Cleanser: "I wash my face with the Dr Loretta cleansing wash. I have the same skincare routine morning and night, although I’m not one of those people who always uses the same products. My skin changes with the weather."
Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cleanser: "For everyday, my go-to is just the simple Kiehl's cleanser if my skin's looking okay and I don’t want to screw with it too much."
Kiehl's Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash: "I use Kiehl's Calendula Deep Cleansing Face Wash."
By Terry Hydra-Éclat Daily Care: "Then I put on moisturizer. A lot of moisturizers, they don't absorb into your skin quickly enough, but this one seeps in right away."
Sisley Hydra-Global Intense Anti-Aging Hydration: "I also like Sisley Hydra-Global. It smells so good."
Charlotte Tilbury Charlotte's Magic Cream Treat & Transform Moisturiser: "I use a little Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream mixed in with Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint."
Dr Loretta Urban Antioxidant Sunscreen SPF 40: "I use the Dr Loretta sunscreen during the day. I don't let my face get sun. I'll wear a hat, and I tend to use [a Charlotte Tilbury] foundation, which has SPF in it."
Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint: "During the day, I use Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint. I'm using the dark colour because I have a bit of a tan. I'm not sure it really covers much, but it evens me out."
Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation: "I don't always wear foundation, but [when I want to] do it up a little bit... I'm using Charlotte Tilbury's Magic Foundation in 6 Medium."
Pat McGrath Labs Sublime Perfection Concealer: "I'm essentially using my concealer as a foundation. This one's LM9. My skin in the summer gets a little bit darker even though I really try very, very hard not to go out in the sun. It just happens. So once I start going outside again, I'll probably transition back to a darker colour."
Nudestix Nudies All Over Face Color: "I'm using Nudestix [in In the Nude]. I use a lot of blush. Even when other makeup artists do my makeup, I'm always like, 'More blush, more blush!' And I might go a little bit on the nose, too, which is like a '90s trick to really make it look like you just got sun. That's where the sun hits. I also put my blush a little bit higher than most people because again, I think it makes it look a little bit more natural. So I almost bring it up to the under-eye."
YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick: "Also very controversial, but a trick that I've done since I was 18, I use lipstick as blush. I like the texture of it a lot more than a powder."
6. Bronzer and Highlighter:
Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow Contour Duo: "I don't use a ton of it. I just like to use a little bit of the bronzer... and this is just to make the cheeks pop a little bit and also bring in the forehead. Because there's nothing worse than not looking like everything got blended together."
Milk Makeup Highlighter: "I've been using this way too much... it's the Milk Highlighter in Lit. I just take the stick, do a little bit on the nose, a bit on my lip, [and around] the eye."
7. Freckle Makeup:
Freck OG The Original Freckle: "What I like to do is use this incredible thing my stylist bought for me because she knows I'm a freckle girl, and it's called Freck. It's just like long-wear freckle makeup. Instead of actual sun damage, I just paint them on. Oh, and the other thing is if you have a zit, [it's] incredible. Any kind of blemish, you can just cover up with Freck."
Anastasia Beverly Hills Perfect Brow Pencil: "It's great for drawing on faux freckles. If you're not going in the sun, how else are you going to get them?"
8. Lip Balm:
Aquaphor Healing Ointment: "Then I put Aquaphor on my lips, or I might mix it with Charlotte [Tilbury's] Bond Girl lipstick so there's some definition."
9. Face Mists:
Omorovicza Queen of Hungary Mist: "This is something I do in the morning and at night. It's just a little add on that makes me feel fresh and good. I actually don't know how to pronounce this product, which is embarrassing because I'm obsessed with it."
Glossier Soothing Face Mist: "To finish, I like to spray the Glossier Soothing Face Mist to set my makeup."
Emily’s Nighttime Skincare Routine
1. Makeup Removers:
Omorovicza Thermal Cleansing Balm: "No matter how crazy my day is, I always take the time to take care of my skin. I take my makeup off, do a little exfoliating, and depending on what's going on, I'll use different products."
Sisley Cleansing Milk: "Right now I'm using Eyeko's Black Magic Drama & Curl Mascara. The Sisley Cleansing Milk takes it off really well."
Dr Loretta Gentle Hydrating Cleanser: "I used to not wash my face before I would go to bed, which now is just so shocking to me. I don’t care how tired I am. I go wash my face."
Dr. Barbara Sturm Cleanser: "Depending on how I'm feeling, like if I've been flying a lot or if I just want kind of a clean-feeling face, I'll use either one of [the cleanser or scrub] by Dr. Barbara Sturm. If I'm like, 'Well my skin's pretty good, I just want to feel clean,' I use this one. It just takes off everything and makes your skin feel brand new, baby soft."
Dr. Barbara Sturm Facial Scrub: "This facial scrub is maybe my favourite. I love an exfoliating facial scrub. Like, I travel so much, I have a lot of dead skin that needs to come off, and I just feel like it's the best way to really feel clean. What makes this special is it doesn't dry your skin out. It's a bit exfoliating but it still keeps you feeling moisturized, which is really nice."
Kiehl's Age Defender Dual-Action Exfoliating Cleanser: "I'm also using a Kiehl's exfoliating cleanser that's actually for men; it's really nice."
COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence: "My girlfriend who's super into K-beauty, Rio Viera-Newton, told me to get snail mucin. Apparently it holds the [moisture] better. So I do this, then I put a little bit of the retinol on."
5. Spot Treatment:
Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment: "I've been picking a lot... but this is what I use."
6. Retinol Treatments:
Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic + Retinol Anti-Aging Moisturizer: "No matter what the situation, I always like to use a little bit of retinol cream. I think it's super, super important. It's the only thing that's really been proven to help with anti-aging. This is the retinol I use. I use this at night."
Joanna Vargas Super Nova Serum: "I've tried a lot of different retinols. I think Joanna Vargas' Super Nova Serum is absolutely the best. It smells really good, it's not too heavy. You do need to be super careful about this and not use too much. So, I alternate... sometimes I use it every night but it's always just a tiny little bump. Or there's another thing you can do which is mix it with a moisturizing oil. I love the Sisley Black Rose Oil."
Shani Darden Retinol Reform: "I love Shani Darden's [retinol]. I also love Joanna Vargas. I kind of alternate depending though, I don't use it every night. I do it every two to three days depending on how my skin's doing."
Dr Loretta Intense Replenishing Serum: "And then I put a serum on, and right now I'm using the Dr Loretta."
Dr. Barbara Sturm Face Cream Rich: "Lastly, I put on Barbara Sturm's Face Cream Rich so they all sort of seal together, and in the morning my skin is good."
9. Eye Cream:
Aquaphor Healing Ointment: "I love Aquaphor. I put it under my eyes at night. It's moisturizing for under your eyes."
10. Face Oils:
Sisley Black Rose Precious Face Oil: "If my skin's really dry, I use Sisley Black Rose Oil. This one is just really good... also for flying. It smells really good, it comes on really thick, and it absorbs really easily—which is super important with an oil because you don't want to look crazy. I got my mom super obsessed with this now, too. It's amazing. I love it."
Omorovicza Miracle Facial Oil: "They also have really good moisturizer and a bunch of other things."
11. Face Mist:
Omorovicza Queen of Hungary Mist: "It's amazing. It smells so good. I always put this on my husband, too, and he's like, 'What are you doing?' But he loves it."
Emily’s Skin Treatments
Glossier Mega Greens Galaxy Pack Detoxifying Face Mask: "When I'm travelling, I'll bring along my Glossier Mega Greens Galaxy Pack. It's a mask, and I put it on after a flight. When I get to the hotel, I put it on for 20 minutes, and my skin feels so much better."
Sisley Express Flower Gel Hydrating and Toning Mask: "If it's a long flight, I'll wash my face before sleeping and put on Sisley Express Flower Gel. It's a mask that you don't have to wash off. It's perfect for the plane."
Joanna Vargas: "I recently got into Joanna Vargas while in New York. I like her facials because she adapts to what's going on with your skin at the time. I do the microcurrent thing, which is insane. But it really works! She also has an LED bed. For the full body. It's amazing."
Korean Spa Treatments:
Natura Spa: "My big treat is that once a month I go to a Korean spa. The one I go to, called Natura, is not as popular as the ones most of Hollywood goes to. I usually go about 40 minutes before my appointment, and you can get into all these different pools. Then you get a body scrub, and you're lying there naked with 20 other women. They just treat you like a piece of meat, but it's worth it. Then you shower, and I like the acupressure massage. Those ladies are strong! They even put grated cucumber on your face. I do have to warn [you]: It's not your traditional spa. There is no one greeting you and asking how your day is. But that's what I love about it. I let my mind shut off and have someone take care of what needs to be done. Afterward, my skin is so soft, and I always sleep so well that night."
Emily’s Diet, Exercise and Lifestyle
"You know, I'm a carnivore. I really like to eat meat. I crave iron so I am definitely not the kind of person who you will find eating a salad. I like to keep it really balanced to give my body energy and also be healthy. I cook a lot, so that really helps: You know how much salt and sugar and all of that kind of stuff you are putting in your body. I think it is really important to give yourself a break. And also just really think about where things are coming from and what kind of ingredients are going into your body."
"I don't have a trainer, and I don't really go to the gym. I go on long walks and hikes with my girlfriends. I use ankle weights and a band to do booty kicks, squats and really basic stretching. That's about it. I'm just not a crazy fitness person. I'm definitely an outlier in the industry."
