Emmys 2016: The Best Skin, Hair and Makeup Looks on the Red Carpet
It's finally here—your dispatch from the year's biggest night in television, a.k.a. the 2016 Emmys. I've got all the best beauty close-ups, plus makeup details where available!
Let's dive in:
Emily Ratajkowski
Emily's blue smoky eyes are incredible! The dramatic angular shape is straight from the runway, and I love how the blue doesn't match her gown—and is only applied to the inner corners. Her sleek updo, and neutral lips and blush, keep the focus where it should be. So glam!
Emily is wearing: Foundation in Golden Tan • Concealer in Medium • Eyeshadow primer • Powder in Deep • Blush in Chroma • Highlighter and bronzer • Eyeshadow in 2 • Eyeshadow in 3 • Eyeliner in Navy • Eyeliner in Aqua • Mascara • Brow pencil in Brunette • Lip liner in Secret Agent • Lipstick in Exhibitionist
Mandy Moore
Mandy is a ray of sunshine in orange lip gloss and matching blush. Both are pretty bold, but they complement her equally bright yellow dress perfectly. Her loose waves keep this from feeling too "done." I love the delicate eyes as well.
Mandy is wearing: Highlighter in Violet • Contour in Fire Opal • Blush • Eyeliner in Brown • Mascara in Rich Brown • Lip colour in Orange Electro • Lip colour in Coral Neo-Pop
Priyanka Chopra
Sometimes the classics just WORK. Priyanka paired her matte red lips with much subtler eye makeup than she has worn in the past—gone are the heavy false lashes, replaced by a natural look with a light dusting of shimmery gold shadow. Finally!
Priyanka is wearing: Toner • Moisturizer • Foundation in 50 Beige • Powder in 42 Beige Rosé • Contour in No. 20 • Blush • Eyeshadow in Tissé Vendôme • Liquid liner in Noir • Mascara in Noir • Lipstick in Rouge Charnel • Lip liner in Rouge Profond
Emilia Clarke
Doesn't Emilia's clear lip gloss feel so fresh?! She bravely kept the makeup minimal on the rest of her face as well—all the better to show off that amazing pair of brows.
Emilia is wearing: Serum • Foundation in 30 Beige and 40 Beige • Blush in Evening Beige • Eyeshadow in Fauve • Eyeshadow in Hésitation • Mascara in Noir • Lip gloss
Kerry Washington
Kerry's big '70s-inspired hair is such a departure for her, and I love it! Her makeup is also more daring: black cat eyes with bright gold shadow and soft nude lips.
Kerry is wearing: Foundation in Cocoa • Eyeliner in Cosmic Black • Lip colour in Warm Caramel
Emmy Rossum
Emmy's pink lipstick and matching blush are so pretty. She has lightened up her usual dark eye makeup to just natural lashes, super-soft taupe shadow, and some smudgy brown along the lower waterlines. Gorgeous, feminine and shows off her amazing skin.
Emmy is wearing: Moisturizer • Foundation in Shade 01 • Blush in Pink • Brow pencil in Brownette • Eyeliner in Java • Mascara • Lipstick in Passionate Peach
America Ferrera
With her freckles and tawny lip gloss, America looks sun-kissed, but not bronzed, if you know what I mean. (Just wait until we get to Claire Danes. Yikes!) The loose waves, fun earrings and natural skin texture give her a relaxed '70s vibe. The false lashes are surprisingly good!
America is wearing: Moisturizer • Foundation • Concealer • Illuminator • Eyeshadow in Sun Ray • Eyeshadow in Tender Love • Eyeshadow in Quicksand • Eyeliner in Jet Set (upper lash line) • Eyeliner in Foxy Brown (lower lash line) • Liquid liner in Cleo • False lashes • Mascara in Black
Olivia Culpo
Olivia's electric purple liner along her bottom lash lines and waterlines is fun and unexpected! It definitely makes her usual neutral palette a lot more modern and exciting. However, this would be cooler without the individual false lashes.
Olivia is wearing: Eyeliner in Pure Purple • Lipstick in Nude
Amanda Peet
No wonder red is Amanda's signature colour—it just brings her face to life! With strong brows, she doesn't need much eye makeup. I like that her skin isn't powdery, and I'm loving the volume in her straight hair.
Amanda is wearing: Lipstick in Ravishing Rose • Lipstick in Red Supreme
Julianne Hough
Julianne's makeup is clean and natural. She's so pale and blonde, it's easy to go overboard, but that didn't happen here. I just think her brows are too precise, and I'm not sure the slicked roots are working for her.
Julianne is wearing: Contour • Bronzer in Matte Tan • Blush in Prism
Sofia Vergara
Sophia did berry lips, natch, but added flushed cheeks for a youthful vibe. I'd love to see a cleaner eye with them, though, and some brow gel to shape and hold up her brows.
Sofia is wearing: Eyeshadow in Nudes • Eyeliner in Espresso • Mascara in Black • Lipstick in Unique Burgundy
Ellie Kemper
Ellie's red hair looks so fresh and vibrant, styled in a chic smooth bob. I also like the berry red lipstick; it's less predictable than a classic red. Her skin looks a bit dry, so I might have used more creams, less powder.
Ellie is wearing: Primer • Face oil (mixed with foundation) • Foundation • Eyeshadow primer • Powder • Contour • Highlighter in Moonstone • Blush in Ethereal Glow • Eyeshadow in Groundwork • Eyeshadow in Genuine Treasure • Eyeliner in Blacktrack • Eyeliner in Dipdown • Mascara • False lashes • Lip pencil in Nightingale • Lip colour in Light Rosewood • Lip colour in Pomegranate Pink • Lip colour in Sequin
Padma Lakshmi
Bright lips are always so good on Padma, and this vibrant fuchsia is no exception. Her skin looks very glowy and hydrated, but I feel like the blush and eyeshadow are unnecessarily bold.
Kirsten Dunst
Kirsten went for a vintage vibe with old Hollywood waves and a muted reddish-berry mouth. I also like the soft eye makeup—anything bolder would be too much with her pale colouring.
Kirsten is wearing: Lipstick in Tender Lips • Lip pencil in Plumberry
Claire Danes
Claire's gold glitter eyes are actually cool (who would've thought she'd be so trendy?!). Alas, the spray tan situation is OUT OF CONTROL. What the what?! Example number 671 of why it's best to just embrace and love your own natural skin tone.
