Emmys 2019: The Best Skin, Hair and Makeup Looks on the Red Carpet
The Emmys are like the Oscars of television—which means pulling out all the stops when it comes to red carpet beauty!
At this year's ceremony, there was plenty of old Hollywood glam, but the most inspired celebs gave it their own edgy spin.
Keep scrolling to see the best hair and makeup of the night.
Michelle Williams
Talk about GLOWING. Michelle's flawless skin, subtle makeup and wavy platinum bob added up to one of my favourite looks on her, ever. Her lips and cheeks have the sheerest "you, only better" hint of colour, and I love the subtle swipe of metallic taupe underneath each eye.
Michelle is wearing: Face mist • Moisturizer • Foundation in Porcelain • Blush in Gladiola • Eyeshadow in Rhinoceros • Brow pencil in Light Taupe • Lipstick in Tamboti
Emilia Clarke
Last time we saw her at an awards show, Emilia had a short bob. Now, with a little help from extensions, her hair is grazing her waist! It looks sleek and modern with her bold brows, peachy lipstick and all-around understated makeup.
Kerry Washington
Okay, I like Kerry's general idea here of a ponytail with bangs, plus cat eyes and lip gloss. (The latter is a great cool-toned pink!) But I'm not sure I'd have done the eyeliner underneath her eyes—it's a little heavy.
Kerry is wearing: Moisturizer • Foundation in Cocoa • Concealer in Deep • Blush in Captivating • Liquid liner in Jet Black • Eyeliner in Jet Black • Mascara in Black • Brow pencil in Brown • Lip balm • Lip gloss in Radiant Rose
Julia Garner
From her bright purple gown to the metallic makeup, nothing about Julia's look is boring. The eyeshadow application is mesmerizing, and her skin looks flawless, but it's the unusual lip colour that really takes this to the next level. In a way, I find the makeup is too sophisticated for the dress!
Julia is wearing: Moisturizer • Eye cream • Face mist • Foundation in 12 Beige Rosé • Concealer in 10 Beige • Bronzer • Powder in 20 Clair • Blush in Alezane • Highlighter in Rosy Gold • Eyeshadow in Lueurs Ambrees • Eyeliner in Brun Agapé • Mascara in Noir • Brow pencil in Blond Tendre • Lip balm • Lip liner in Beige Innocent • Lipstick in Metallic Bronze
Sophie Turner
Sophie played it safe in pastels, emphasizing her eyes with a pinky-taupe shadow and her lips with a creamy peach lipstick. I love the chunky lashes and dusting of glitter, but I can't help but miss her in bolder looks like this one.
Jameela Jamil
Jameela went with the same bright lips, cat eyes and bangs that she rocked earlier this year at the Grammys, only swapping out the red lipstick for an orange. Could her skin be any smoother and more flawless? (And is she freeing the nipple? It happens!)
Jodie Comer
Jodie had my favourite half-up hairstyle of the night, with a little volume on top and gorgeous tone-on-tone highlights. Like Mandy Moore, she went with smoky eyes and nude lips, but these look a little subtler and more lived-in.
Jodie is wearing: Foundation in 22 Beige Rosé • Lipstick in Beige Naturel
Mandy Moore
Mandy paired her colour-blocked pink and red dress with big waves and neutral makeup. She pulls off the brown smoky eyes and nude lips, but this would look A LOT fresher with a lighter touch overall (more glow, less contour!).
Mandy is wearing: Eyeshadow
Amy Adams
We rarely see bold colour on Amy—here, she did a classic cat eye with softly flushed cheeks and sheer berry gloss. I love that she jazzed up this look with a pair of oversized hoops. But the best part is her fishtail braid at the back!
Rachel Brosnahan
Speaking of amazing skin, Rachel has the most flawless canvas for this creative eyeshadow look—a light blue that diffuses from the inner corners into a darker shade at the outer edges. I also love the texture of her brows, and the soft lip stain.
Amy is wearing: Lipstick in Mulberry Mist
Busy Philipps
Busy confirmed in her Instagram stories that she's not wearing any skin makeup here—just sheer washes of pink on her lids, lips and cheeks. (And hair!) A little mascara and dark, straight brows help to frame her face.
Busy is wearing: Blush in 8th Muse
Kristen Bell
An off-the-face updo was the right choice for this intricately beaded gown, and I love that Kristen picked up the lavender shade in her eyeshadow. It's just that the harsh edges of her lipstick seem to age her a bit.
Kristen is wearing: Lipstick in 325 Ultra Tender
Maisie Williams
Maisie looks like an actual doll in this bob with short, choppy bangs. I actually really like how it draws your attention to her eyes and shows off her full brows. It's also nice to see un-enhanced lips, in a pretty rosy shade!
Joey King
After being shaved off last year, Joey's hair is growing out, and you've got to hand it to her for rocking her natural curls (even if they are a little piecey). I like the delicate makeup and how she's mixing warm and cool shades, but I'm not sure it all comes together with the dress.
Joey is wearing: Foundation in 20CP • Concealer in 20CP • Powder • Illuminator • Blush/bronzer in Strip • Eyeshadow in Naked Honey • Liquid liner • Mascara • Brow primer in Brunette Betty • Brow pencil in Café Kitty • Lip liner in Stark Naked • Lipstick in Sheer Liar • Lip gloss in Rapture
Naomi Watts
Yet another blonde bob on this red carpet was Naomi's. The face-framing wave, blunt ends and asymmetrical cut are SO chic. Classic red lipstick and strong brows complete the look.
Naomi is wearing: Foundation in 30 Beige • Eyeshadow in Blurry Mauve • Lipstick in True Red
Halsey
Halsey traded in her rainbow roots and orange blush for a romantic curly updo and pretty makeup. This matte berry lip is so good. I just find the overall styling dated, and her hair colour is too dark, solid and obviously dyed-looking.
Halsey is wearing: Primer • Foundation • Bronzer • Highlighter • Eyeshadow in Modern Dreamer (on cheeks) • Lipstick in Copenhagen
