Golden Globes 2016: The Best Skin, Hair and Makeup Looks on the Red Carpet
The annual Golden Globe Awards took place on Sunday night, honouring achievements in film and television. And as usual, I've got all the celebrity hair and makeup looks straight from the red carpet.
Here we go!
Olivia Wilde
Definitely a favourite! Olivia is just such a wonderful eyeshadow-wearer. The unexpected shimmering plum—with black liner in the waterlines, no false lashes—is matchy to her dress, and sooo beautiful. Obviously, the nude lips and blush were the smart choice. I'm digging her wavy Ombré as well.
Olivia is wearing: Foundation • Concealer • Highlighter in Rose Glow • Blush in Rose Glow • Eyeshadow in Decadent • Eyeliner in Matte Coal • Mascara in Blackest Black • Lip liner in Natural • Lipstick in Camilla • Lip gloss in Super Natural
Jennifer Lopez
JLo surprised us with an old Hollywood look of glossy red lips and smooth waves. Her lashes and contouring aren't too bad, and I can even get behind the gold eyeshadow.
Jennifer is wearing: Eyeliner • Eyeliner in Black • Lip gloss in Rouge Envy, Nude Allude and Forbidden Kiss
Amber Heard
Amber's skin! Every time I see her complexion I'm blown away by its dewiness. I love her wavy faux bob, thick fringe of lashes and stained red lips. Notice how there's no mascara or liner under the eyes. She truly looks effortless, not contrived.
Amber is wearing: Face mist • Moisturizer • Foundation • Concealer in Ivory • Under-eye brightener • Powder • Bronzer • Blush in Pravella • Lipstick in L33
Rooney Mara
Painting Rooney's face must be a makeup artist's dream! Technically, she is not wearing a lot: creamy berry lipstick, long lush lashes and a hint of soft shadow and blush. But it's her thick, brushed-up brows and most of all, ultra-flawless skin that make this absolutely stunning. Hair tightly pulled back always shows it off best.
Brie Larson
It was definitely Brie's night, and I'm so impressed with her hair and makeup. The full Hollywood upgrade is now complete! She got a subtle fake tan and her makeup is more sheer, but still warm. And the straight hair in a deep side part is very flattering.
Brie is wearing: Moisturizer • Foundation in 50 Beige • Bronzer • Illuminator • Eyeliner in 10 Noir • Mascara in 10 Noir • Eyeshadow in 90 Convoitise • Brow pencil in 10 Blond Clair • Lip gloss in 218 Script
Jennifer Lawrence
I'm not crazy about Jennifer's updo, especially when her lob has been looking so fabulous lately! I'd have chosen a dress that would allow me to wear it down. Aside from that, no complaints on the makeup. I always love how she does her hooded eyes, and the sheer red lipstick is very fresh.
Jennifer is wearing: Primer • Foundation in 020 Light Beige • Concealer in 002 Beige • Powder • Contour in 003 Beige Contour • Blush • Brow pencil in 433 Ash Blonde • Eyeshadow in 031 Blue Garden • Eyeliner in 157 Iris • Mascara in 090 Black • Lipstick in 842 Zig Zag
Bryce Dallas Howard
What I find compelling about Bryce's look is how she paired simple, almost "daytime" straight hair with a bright blue sequin and lace dress. The makeup is all soft rose gold tones, adding to the casual-dressy juxtaposition.
Alicia Vikander
Alicia looks so young, fresh and pretty in a muted red lip stain and a feminine, twisted updo. Her signature long lashes at the outer corners actually work here, because everything is so pared-down. Her skin is so beautiful, too!
Alicia is wearing: Moisturizer • Primer • Foundation in 8 Medium and 9 Dark • Under-eye concealer in 2 Fair and 3 Fair • Concealer in 3 Medium • Powder in 2 Medium • Brow pencil in Cara D • Eyeshadow in Bette • Eyeshadow in Marie Antoinette • Eyeliner in Bedroom Black • Mascara in Glossy Black • Contour and highlighter • Highlighter • Blush in Las Salinas • Lip liner in Pink Venus • Lipstick in Sexy Sienna • Lipstick in Walk of Shame
Cate Blanchett
Leave it to Cate to try a dramatic, sculptural side updo and completely pull it off. I'm not sure if her eyeliner is meant to have transferred quite so much under the eyes, but even still, she looks great. I'm happy to see a lighter hand on the blush.
Cate is wearing: Eyeshadow in 12 Gold Ashes • Eyeshadow in 01 Obsidian • Eyeshadow in 07 Shadow • Blush in 507 • Powder • Lipstick in 508 Daybreak
Amy Adams
Amy looks adorable, if not a bit overly faux-tanned. I think this was all about showing off her beautiful hair, which I appreciate, since updos aren't always the most flattering. Her eye makeup is intense but smudgy, and overall I'm getting sexy "girl next door" vibes.
Amy is wearing: Foundation in St. Moritz • Eyeshadow in Galapagos • Blush in Panic • Lipstick in Raquel
Viola Davis
When I saw this pic on Instagram, I was like, "Yes, Viola!" She was born to wear. this vibrant blue eyeshadow and violet lipstick. The cool tones are amazing with her complexion, and her face just glows (even if I don't love the lashes).
Viola is wearing: Eyeshadow in 238 Tissé Paris • Eyeshadow in 83 Illusoire • Eyeliner in 924 Fervent Blue • Lip gloss in 208 Roman
Emilia Clarke
There has yet to be a red carpet where Emilia isn't one of my favourites. This woman is so gorgeous! And she needs very little adornment. Here, her hair is half-back with some volume at the crown, and her makeup palette is all sweet pinks. The eyeshadow is pale and shimmery, while the lipstick is warmer, with more punch. She only has mascara and a touch of dark liner to define the upper lash lines.
Emilia is wearing: Moisturizer • Foundation • Blush in Rose Cherie • Eyeshadow in 576 Eternal Gold • Eyeliner in 789 Smoky Brown • Mascara • Lipstick in Charnelle 459
Kate Winslet
No surprises here, Kate stuck with her usual "Hollywood movie star" styling. It's okay, I just find myself wishing she'd loosen up a bit. I think wearing her hair down would be more youthful than the side updo. However, I like her dark brows/light hair combo, and the soft makeup seems fine.
Kate is wearing: Foundation • Eyeshadow in Brun Adore • Mascara • Eyeliner in Noir • Brow pencil in 030 Brun • Concealer • Contour • Blush in Rose Paradis • Lip liner in Beige Rosé • Lipstick in Rose Tea
Emmy Rossum
Emmy's soft waves, creamy skin and red lipstick are so girly and gorgeous. I also like the black cat eyes to add a bit of edge. And I'm thankful for the absence of false lashes!
Emmy is wearing: Eye primer • Eyeliner in Little Black Smokey • Eyeliner • Mascara • Lipstick in Best of the Best
Zendaya
As usual, Zendaya's skin looks flawless and expertly illuminated. I also love seeing her with "pretty hair," instead of a dramatic wig. I don't think she needs this much makeup, though—it hides her natural youthful freshness.
Zendaya is wearing: Eyeshadow in Nooner • Eyeshadow in Liar • Eyeshadow in Dark Side • Mascara
Saoirse Ronan
Saoirse looks so young here... like, if you told me she was 14 and not 21 years old, I'd believe you. But I do like this soft makeup and simple, half-back hair on her. She seems comfortable, and it's not wearing her like some of her previous makeup looks.
Saoirse is wearing: Moisturizer • Blush in 68 Rose Ecrin • Eyeshadow in 81 Fantasme • Eyeliner • Lip gloss in 202 Conte
Taraji P. Henson
This textured, voluminous bob is a great hairstyle for Taraji, and I love the "swoosh" at the part. Her makeup is also much softer than usual, with a rosy lipstick and subtly smudged liner. I just wish her brows weren't so unnaturally arched.
Taraji is wearing: Foundation in C5.5 Natural Tan • Concealer in Medium Deep Neutral • Powder in C6 Soft Sable • Blush in Soft Pink • Eyeshadow in Sunset Seine • Eyeshadow in Café Au Lait • Eyeliner • Mascara • Lip liner in Au Naturale • Lip gloss in Bare Attraction
Rachel McAdams
Rachel's skin looks dreamy, and I'm obsessed with this pinky-red lipstick and matching blush. But her highlights look off—too ashy and streaky. If you ask me, she looks best in a solid warm light brown colour.
Rachel is wearing: Lipstick in Scarlet Soaked • Lipstick in Magenta Rushed
America Ferrera
America looks glowy and fresh with stained red lips, bronzed cheeks and a sleek updo. Nothing feels heavy—you can really appreciate her natural prettiness.
America is wearing: Lip crayon in Napa Vineyard • Lipstick in Scarlet Soaked
Julianne Moore
Julianne is a woman who knows what works for her—that being soft undone waves and a sheer pinky makeup palette. I really like the smudginess (and shimmery-ness) of her eye makeup. A couple of individual lashes at the outer corners, and a dark liner in the waterlines (although not harsh black) give her eyes just enough definition.
Julianne is wearing: Contour • Eyeshadow in Nude 02 • Eyeshadow in 300 Rose Nude • Lipstick in Gilded Pink
Kate Bosworth
Kate looks lovely, in an ice princess sort of way. She pulls off two tricky things here: a tight updo, and a bold pink blush look. I think each makes the other work, actually; with her hair down, the blush would be too much. Everything is really delicate and well-blended, with no harsh edges. I especially love her lip colour/texture!
Kate is wearing: Primer • Foundation in Vanilla • Blush in Oleander • Eyeshadow in Sable • Eyeshadow in Sandstone • Eyeshadow in 001 Lune • Mascara • Brow pencil in Taupe • Lipstick in Coquette • Lipstick in Raspberry Ripple
Gina Rodriguez
Gina looks like a bronzed beauty in peachy lipstick, winged-out liner and shimmery shadow. The voluminous straight hair, pinned back down the middle, adds to the modern '60s vibe.
Malin Akerman
This look really plays up Malin's ultra-pale, ultra-cool skin and hair colours. The silvery shadow is focused underneath her lower lashes, a good call for her hooded eye shape. Blush is very seamless, and I very much appreciate the delicate filling job on the brows. The colour is just right, and the edges aren't too harsh.
Malin is wearing: Foundation • Concealer • Blush in Impassioned • Blush in Fervor • Highlighter in Copacabana • Bronzer in Laguna • Mascara • Eyeshadow in The Uptown Girl • Eyeshadow in Stag Film • Eyeliner in Tetra • Brow pencil • Lipstick in Rosecliff
Kate Hudson
Kate matched her peachy nude makeup to her dress. It's fine, but I love when she does more colour (like a bright red or raspberry lip). Her hair seems , and it's a bit "meh." Kate's hair seems stringy and too casual; it would've been better up, I think it would be more polished if she'd worn her hair in a sleek updo.
Kate is wearing: Bronzer • Highlighter in Sheen
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
Rosie might have gone too far with the spray tan. But she looks good in anything, including the warm-toned gold shadow, bronzer and pinky lip gloss. Her lashes have a nice, delicate texture.
Rosie is wearing: Primer • Foundation in 030 Medium Beige • Illuminator • Contour in Brown Contour • Brow pencil in 433 Ash Blonde • Mascara in 090 Black • Eyeshadow in 451 Rose Garden • Eyeshadow in 557 Twig • Eyeliner in Black 095 • Eyeliner in Intense Brown 594 • Lip balm • Lipstick in Tailleur Bar 535
Sophia Bush
Sophia went for the most classic look possible, from hair to makeup to dress to jewellery. While it's not the most exciting thing here, I cannot fault the red lipstick, grey shadow or tight side-parted updo.
Sophia is wearing: Foundation • Mascara • Lip crayon in Pop Life
Katy Perry
Even at the Golden Globes, Katy had to get costumey with this extreme '60s bouffant with cat eyes and pink lipstick. Just because you take inspiration from a certain decade, it doesn't have to be so literal. I'd love to see her do something super bare and fresh, for once!
Katy is wearing: Primer • Bronzer in Medium • Blush in Medium Rose • Eyeshadow in Nudes • Eyeliner in Mocha Ebony • Mascara • Lip balm in Sprinkle
Kirsten Dunst
Kirsten went more intense than usual with her makeup, wearing grey smoky eyes, a strawberry lip colour and bold blush. It's fine, but I feel less is more with this one, so I'd prefer a lighter touch overall.
Kirsten is wearing: Eyeliner in 88 Noir Intense • Eyeliner in 926 Purple Choc • Eyeshadow in 47 Ebony • Eyeshadow in Mirifique • Eyeshadow in 118 Moonlight Pink • Mascara in Noir • Lip gloss in 204 Article and 218 Script
Jaimie Alexander
I like Jaime's soft, full updo, and her eye makeup is super cool. She's also wearing a pretty lipstick, and her skin is gorgeous. The main issue is that her brows have been over-tweezed, and the darkness accentuates that.
Eva Green
Eva has been dyeing her hair black since she was a teenager... but I dunno, I think it looks so harsh and overly solid. And I'm not convinced it's that flattering with her skin tone (unlike say, Rooney Mara, who has this colouring naturally). Also, I think the contouring and gold shimmer on her cheek is too much!
Eva is wearing: Moisturizer • Primer • Foundation in 2 Fair and 3 Fair • Under-eye concealer in 1 Fair and 2 Fair • Powder in 1 Fair and 2 Medium • Brow pencil in Cara D and Brooke S • Eyeshadow in Bette • Eyeshadow in Marie Antoinette • Eyeliner in Audrey • Mascara in Glossy Black • Contour and highlighter • Highlighter • Blush in Love Glow • Lip liner in Kiss 'N' Tell • Lipstick in 1975 Red
Caitriona Balfe
Caitriona went with her usual red lips and soft brows and lashes. Her hair looks polished in an updo with a middle part. It's nothing groundbreaking, but it works.
Caitriona is wearing: Lipstick in 408 Jeanne • Lip gloss in 206 Histoire
Heidi Klum
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley wasn't the only one with a too-deep spray tan—Heidi has one too. (At least I hope this is a spray tan and not real, for the sake of her skin!) I like the candy pink lip gloss, although she's still wearing her favourite bottom false lashes and white eyeliner.
