Grammys 2020: The Best Skin, Hair and Makeup Looks on the Red Carpet
Mid-way through awards season, the Grammys always shake things up with a bevy of exciting and experimental beauty looks.
On last night's red carpet, you could find both brightly coloured hair and makeup, ranging from blue, purple and pink eyeshadow to red and green hair. Also spotted: lots of bangs, winged eyeliner, and of course, gorgeous skin.
Here are all the close-ups you need to see:
Dua Lipa
Dua's whole look was a throwback to the '90s, complete with baby blue eyeshadow, brown lipstick, a spiky top knot and two face-framing chunky pieces. Applying the colour all the way around her eyes saves it from looking too literal... but I'm not feeling the blonde hair and dark roots!
FKA Twigs
FKA Twigs wore a toned-down version of her Gothic-inspired 2019 VMAs look. She's still rocking the red hair, along with tons of eyeshadow to shade her lids (which only she could wear so well). I love her cute freckles, feathery brows, peachy lip gloss... and tooth jewellery!
H.E.R.
I understand that H.E.R. usually wears dark glasses, so we got a rare look at her pretty face in these sheer, rose-tinted ones. I like everything about this, from her dewy skin to the orange lipstick to the long lashes and blue eyeshadow. A fluffy, high bun is the perfect finishing touch.
Sophie Turner
Sophie wore the boldest lipstick of the night, and isn't this raspberry shade glorious? She paired it with super defined, jet-black lashes, plus soft brows and stick-straight hair. Her skin looks so smooth and flawless!
Priyanka Chopra
Her choice of outfit (and belly ring!) may have been questionable, but Priyanka's beauty look was on point as usual. The sheer rosy lipstick and matching blush and eyeshadow are mesmerizing, giving her face a soft-focus, air-brushed effect. I love the long, straight hair as well.
Priyanka is wearing: Lipstick in LaBeija (as blush) • Highlighter in Bronze • Highlighter in Bronze Nectar 003 • Eyeshadow in Vermillion Venom, Taboo, Blood Moon 005 and Jubilee • Mascara • Lip liner in Contour • Lip gloss in Flesh 6
Jameela Jamil
Quelle surprise, Jameela did her signature bangs, long hair, winged eyes and bright lipstick again—the only thing that changes are the colours. On the one hand, I do like the sparkly purple and the berry, and it's impressive that she does her makeup herself. But I think she's capable of far more creative looks, which is where a styling team could help.
Heidi Klum
I've often looked to Heidi for hair inspiration, and this style has to be one of her all-time best. I love the colour, I love the texture, and I love the Boho-style bangs and long layers. Makeup-wise, I like this, too, except for the bottom false lashes (!).
Camila Cabello
Camila's red carpet style is never that exciting, so I'm glad she switched up her hair this time—trading her curls for a sleek, straight style with bangs. (It may be a wig, though, because the curly hair was back for her performance.) I think the black eyeliner is too harsh, and it seems like it's irritating her eyes!
Camila is wearing: Bronzer • Blush in Peony • Luminizer in Light to Medium • Setting spray • Eyeshadow in Noir Cest Noir • Eyeliner in Black • Mascara • Lip gloss in Petal
Ella Mai
Ella appears to be styled for the Golden Globes, not the Grammys. It's a shame she didn't give us something edgier, like she wore to the 2019 Billboard Awards. Nevertheless, I do like the pinky-red eyeshadow, tightlined eyes and defined lashes.
Ella is wearing: Face mask • Moisturizer • Foundation in Oak 340 • Concealer in 302 • Powder in 340 Oak • Contour in Cocoa Dusk • Blush in Berry Dawn • Highlighter in Cosmic • Eyeshadow in Rose Pagoda and Azuki Red • Eyeliner in Black (between lashes) • Eyeliner in Shibui Black (for wings) • Mascara in Sumi Black • Brow pencil in Ebony • Lipstick in Nude Streak
Bebe Rexha
The thing about Bebe is that I love her look when she's on stage or presenting, but then up-close, it can be a little harsh. The eye makeup is great, so I think it has to do with the lip fillers, ring of lip liner and bright blonde hair (which doesn't quite suit her skin tone).
Bebe is wearing: Luminizer • Blush in Mykonos • Eyeshadow • Mascara • Lip scrub • Lip liner in Incognito • Lip gloss in Samantha
Lizzo
I much prefer Lizzo's glam vibes here to the campy theme she had at the AMAs. The entire look is very old Hollywood, with vintage waves, smoky eyes and a cool Ombré lip. It's too bad she is sweating through the makeup; she needs a lot more powder.
Lizzo is wearing: Toner • Eye mask • Moisturizer • Foundation • Concealer • Powder • Setting spray • Eyeshadow primer • Eyeshadow in Cayenne, En Fuego and Ashes • Eyeliner in Perversion • Mascara in Perversion • False lashes • Brow pencil in Dark Drapes • Eyeliner in Torch (as lip liner) • Lipstick in Heartless • Lip gloss in Snitch
Alessandra Ambrosio
Alessandra wore her favourite cat eyes with soft pink lipstick, natural brows and contouring to accentuate her famous cheekbones. Worn with a middle part and long, straight hair, it is simple but stunning.
Tove Lo
Tove matched her makeup to her bra, and if you can overlook this (truly terrible) wardrobe choice, it's actually kinda pretty! The blush blends right into the eyeshadow for that draped effect we've been seeing a lot lately. And she has really nice skin.
Tove is wearing: Face mask • Eye cream • CC cream • Concealer • Blush in Frivole (on cheeks and eyes) • Highlighter in Iridescent Pink 003 and Fine Gold 003 (on cheeks and eyes) • Eyeshadow in Hyped • Mascara • False lashes in A.10 • Brow pencil in Universal Taupe • Lip balm • Lip liner in Deux • Lipstick in Capri
Chrissy Teigen
The first thing I noticed when I saw Chrissy last night was that she just topped up her lip injections. (And she wasn't the only one—more on that in a moment!) Apparently she, too, is doing the "ring around the lips" technique with lip liner. Aside from that, I like the tone-on-tone effect she's got going on here. But the best part of this look is her textured bob with soft Ombré ends.
Lana Del Rey
Lana's looks can be hit and miss, and this time, I'm not a fan. I know she loves her winged liner, but the shape of these cat eyes isn't right, especially with the heavy lashes. I also dislike the weird wrapped bun hairstyle. However, her skin looks good!
Lana is wearing: Primer • Foundation • Powder • Eyeshadow in Ultimate Taupe • Eyeshadow in Statuesque • Mascara • Lip balm • Lip liner in Buff • Lipstick in 1995
Ariana Grande
It's no secret that Ariana's style has always grated on me, and it hasn't changed in YEARS. Same high ponytail, same dated makeup... except now, she's plumped up her lips with filler, just like Chrissy Teigen did for this event. As an aside, I feel like her face is less "surprised"-looking lately, so I should probably revisit her Before & After to figure this out!
Gwen Stefani
How is Gwen 50 years old?! Her skin looks amazing, even though I'm certain she's had a little cosmetic help. (As evidence, there's surely some kind of Botox/filler situation with her upper lip to make it fatter at the edges and pulled up in the middle!) I like the pale pink lipstick for a change, but the lip liner, lashes and brows are straight stage makeup. It also looks like something is off with her hair colour, as her roots are brassy.
Billie Eilish
Last but not least, we have Billie, who once again defied the red carpet "rules" by wearing baggy clothes, sunglasses and a Gucci face mask. Of the baggy clothes, she has said that "nobody can have an opinion [on my body] because they haven't seen what's underneath" I can only imagine that applies to her face, as well!
