When you think about splurging on a lipstick, which brands come to mind?
Probably Chanel. Maybe Dior or YSL. Lipstick Queen or Tom Ford if you're niche like that. Or you could be a NARS or MUFE girl.
I'll bet you didn't consider Guerlain. And you should!
I've long been a fan of their lipsticks in particular, which have some of the most exquisite packaging on the market. But it's not just how they look in your purse—I always, always get compliments when I wear Insolence Rouge Automatique from the spring 2014 collection, because it's such an unusual strawberry red.
Now there's a NEW lineup of Guerlain lipsticks to crush on, with the reinvented Kiss Kiss:
The Kiss Kiss range has been around since 1994 (!!), but was recently revamped as Kiss Kiss Shaping Cream Lip Colour, which means they have a plumping effect from hyaluronic acid. (For the record, I didn't notice anything on that front.) They also have that new lightweight texture that all the lipsticks are getting these days.
AND they got a new outfit in these luxe black cases, which might be my favourite of all the lipsticks I own:
There are 26 shades in the collection, and in case you're wondering, there's nothing old-ladyish about them. As you'll soon see, these are totally modern and not at all shy.
Guerlain let me choose three to try, so of course I went for the brights—coral, red and fuchsia! (Like I always say, with lipstick I go big or go home.)
Here's a look at each on the lips. (Try not to be distracted by the peach fuzz. Lighting issues!)
325 Rouge Kiss
Rouge Kiss is the star shade in the collection, and just about the perfect red. As you can see, it's a bit sheerish, so doesn't look or feel too heavy—just that lovely pop of colour. It totally reminds me of Smashbox's Be Legendary Lipstick in Legendary that I fell in love with a few years ago... except in more glam packaging.
344 Sexy Coral
It's hard to choose, but I think Sexy Coral is my favourite of the three shades here. It's such a pretty and wearable coral that is super-flattering on the complexion (and I think would suit any skin tone). It's great for daytime or night.
361 Excessive Rose
I didn't expect Excessive Rose to have this much pigment—holy bold! This is exactly how I like my fuchsias and it definitely gives edgier brands (like Marc Jacobs Kiss Pops) a run for their money. If you love an unapologetic hot pink, then you'll love this one.
If you're looking for a splurgey new lipstick, then I don't think you can go wrong with Kiss Kiss. The high pigment in a thin, buttery formula may not last all day, but that's fine by me because they're so comfortable to wear, and won't accentuate any flakes or dryness. The packaging is to die for, and I'm just in love with these colours... so fun and bright!
