Ask a Hairstylist: The Best Haircuts for a Pear-Shaped Face
Q: Hi Tony, I have a funny face shape—I would say pear? My question is, what cut will help to frame my unique face shape in a flattering way, that is easy to style and looks fresh?
I love the look of bangs and long hair, but I find bangs hard because I have a small forehead.
I also really love the "bed head" look that has taken over recently, but my hair gets greasy and limp if I apply too much product.
I have pretty thick hair, but the strands are fine, so it doesn't hold volume or a curl very well. I am not very talented at doing my hair, so it's usually in a messy bun or styled straight.
Thank you for your advice! — Tiffany
A: Hi Tiffany, thank you for sending in your request for a consultation. You have a beautiful face for many hair looks. You are also on the right track with the bangs. I like them on you a lot.
However, to balance your face shape, your bangs need to be a bit longer—below your eyebrows and just above your lashes.
Also, they should be all the same length, not rounded or shorter in the middle.
This will help to make your eyes pop, and will show off your bone structure even more beautifully.
As for the rest of your hair, keeping it long like you already have it looks good.
Or, you could even go shorter, just above or below the collarbone.
When you wear your hair up in a bun or ponytail, the long bangs will help to make it look more polished. Just blow-dry them smooth so that they fall nicely.
But it is important to know how to style your hair to get the Boho chic vibe that you want.
To get this look, you don't need to weigh your hair down with heavy products. Invest in a large-barrelled curling wand (try Drybar The Wrap Party Styling Wand).
Before you use it, apply a heat protectant for fine hair (such as Amika Brooklyn Bombshell Blowout Spray).
Then, you can wrap random sections of hair around the curling wand, leaving the ends out. You don't want to make the waves too perfect. This should take only 15 minutes, max—your hair is worth it!
Make sure to set the waves with a lightweight hairspray (like Bumble and Bumble Does It All Light Hold Hairspray).
