The Best Low-Maintenance Haircuts for Straight Hair
Welcome to our Hair Consultation column. To request an online hair consultation from celebrity hairstylist Bill Angst, follow the instructions here.
Q: Hi Bill! I am hoping you can give me some advice on a hair cut/style that would suit me. I have three different pictures. The first photo is what it looks like now (pulled up a little).
The next pic is when I had side bangs, lots of layers and a longer length.
My hair was even longer than that, but I shaved my head last April to donate my hair and raise awareness for women's cancer. So this pic is with my super-short hair growing back in:
My hair is not coloured at all, and I have not even cut it since shaving my head. So I am pretty good going in any direction you want!
I am kinda leaning towards cutting my hair short again. Ideally, I want a low-maintenance style. I also swim a couple times a week, so blow-drying my hair all the time is not the best option.
I'm open to any and all suggestions. Many thanks for your help! — Clare
A: Clare, you are such a chameleon. (And obviously gorgeous—I do not need to point that out, but wow!) I would like the opportunity to discuss all of your photos.
I'm loving the shorter hair on you, so here I have a slightly darker colour with a cut suited for your face.
As far as I am concerned, this is an ultimate goal for you, for a short hairstyle:

The shape and colour scream so much fun to me—and great for swimming!
For a longer length...
If you grow it long, I say yes to layers and a darker shade with sprinkles of a lighter tone.
For the half up, half down look... this looser version also gets your hair off of your face.
Then I was thinking a whole new gig could be a strong bang to frame your eyes and heavy layers, for a different cachet.
Your options are limitless…
