The Best Haircuts to Get After a Pixie

Q: I really enjoy trying out tons of new, crazy hairstyles, but I find myself stuck with this short, pixie-like cut.
Don't get me wrong, I like it so far, but waiting for it to grow out is getting a little tedious. My hair is thick, dark brown (nearly black), a normal texture and super-wavy when it's longer.
I've come to the conclusion that I want to colour it, but I'm not sure how; I've never had colour-treated hair before.
What should I do with it, and what kind of hairstyle should I try next? I'm up for anything, so long as it doesn't require hair gel! — Lilian
A: Lilian, you look great with your hair short, but obviously change is in the air.
I love this cropped long-short cut for you.
Skip the gel and use a hand cream to make the separation and texture like this picture.

This will lend itself for a longer cut down the road.
I would also put some highlights in your dark hair to show movement.
These tones will work with your skin and eye colour beautifully.
I think this style would suit the shape of your face, too, but I would wear your own colour with this look!
