Independent Spirit Awards 2022: The Best (And Worst) Celebrity Hair and Makeup Looks on the Red Carpet

After shaving her head and then going bright red, Kristen’s hair is long again, with dark roots and a soft blonde colour. I like it—although her Twilight-era dark brown hair will always be my favourite on her. Her skin looks glowy, and the smoky eyes add drama without feeling heavy.

Does Rosario age at all?! She’s 42 now, but you’d never guess. With her hair slicked back (it’s actually in a high braid) and minimal makeup, you can really appreciate her flawless skin. The best part is the surprise of sparkly green liner just above her cat eyes to add interest. 

Sydney debuted a new strawberry blonde hair colour, and she played up to the max with eyeshadow and lipstick in the same tonal family. The effect is mesmerizing, especially with her 360-degree eyeliner, perfectly defined lashes and full brows. Girl just needs some Visine for those bloodshot eyes! 

Dianna hasn’t been a red carpet regular in years, but she clearly hasn’t missed a beat. She’s traded her signature blonde bob for long hair in a soft “bronde” colour, held in place with a simple barrette. The makeup is super-soft browns and roses, with no harsh lines.

Is it just me or are Lily’s brows bigger than ever? Not that I’m complaining, mind you—they give her an almost model-esque look with her hair tucked behind her ears, in a simple middle part. I love that she’s wearing little other makeup, just some soft, balmy lipstick in a “your lips, only better” shade.

Julia showed up in her signature heavy black eye makeup, which she herself has dubbed the “Fox eye.” It’s a look—but hey, I’ll take this over dated Instagram makeup any day. At least she paired it with simple hair and clean skin. Holy lip filler though!

I love that Maggie does her own thing and doesn’t try to erase her lines or plump her features like most of her Hollywood peers. Case in point: she’s rocking this dark, glossy lipstick on her natural, normal-sized lips. (Isn’t it crazy how enhanced lips are now the norm for almost every famous person?!) The only thing I’d change is the colour palette. Black and red are too harsh on her and are draining the colour out of her skin. 

Well, I never expected Helen to be trying out the new “money piece” highlight trend. I think the blonde pieces around her face are way too light. As for her makeup, there’s an interesting technique going on with the stripes of eyeshadow on her hooded eyes. I feel like it needs to be blended—and the same goes for her lipstick, which is migrating outside her lip line on one side!
