Jennifer Lawrence, Before and After
Some celebrities seem so down to earth, you'd never dream of them altering their appearance with cosmetic procedures. Case in point: Jennifer Lawrence.
Now 30, the Golden Globe- and Academy Award-winning actress has masterfully cultivated a "normal" persona over the years. She falls, she eats junk food, and she'd rather shop at Ikea than get ripped off at some designer store. She's just like us!
Or is she? A look back at Jennifer's beauty evolution reveals an actress whose rise to fame was perhaps a little more calculated. At the very least, her look has changed—a lot.
So who is the real Jennifer Lawrence? Let's see if we can find out!

In this first photo, Jen was just 17 years old. And yes, I checked. This IS Jennifer Lawrence, even though it barely resembles her today (which will be a recurring theme over the next few pics!). Back then, she rocked a spray tan with bleached-blonde hair and over-plucked brows... plus a wider nose and heavy-lidded eyes.

The following year, her hair took on a more natural, sun-kissed look, and she started wearing the smoky eye makeup that she has remained fond of to this day. Looking at her features front-on, you can definitely see a different nose than she has now.
There's the JLaw we know—there's no mistaking that smile! Again, notice how her nose is ever-so-slightly more prominent in relation to her other features, which isn't the case anymore. We can also see that she always did have straight, even teeth. But we'd never catch her in this daisy headband these days!

See what I mean about her looking like a different person? Here, Jen's face shape seems a lot more oblong, with flatter cheeks. And without any eyeliner along her lower lash lines, her hooded eyes are especially noticeable. Take note of her lips, by the way, because even those will change.

By age 20, Jennifer was going more glam on the red carpet, to coincide with her breakout role in Winter's Bone. She wore her hair in voluminous waves and soft bangs, with distinctly heavier eyeliner and eyeshadow. Even her facial features are looking fuller, especially her cheeks. And it appears that she had her teeth professionally brightened.

Alright, this is where it becomes quite obvious that she was tinkering with injections. Her lips look totally bee-stung, with the upper one equal to if not greater in size than the lower (which was NOT the case before). Her face is also much fuller overall. She didn't suddenly gain a bunch of weight, so the only explanation is... filler!
Here, too, she has a strangely bloated look, possibly from over-using Restylane or Juvéderm. (Jen was still only 21 here!) Her upper lip is unnaturally full, but what is even more striking is the newly rounded shape of her face. It seems like the fillers were injected around her cheeks and temples in an attempt to widen it. The last thing to notice is her nasal bridge, as I suspect she had a nose job the following year.

For the debut of The Hunger Games, which would make her a household name, Jennifer revealed a brand new look. The fillers in her lips, cheeks and temples have dissipated, so her face shape is oblong again. The other change is her nose. It's narrower through both the nostrils and the bridge, and the tip is more defined.

In case you missed it, Jen also had dark brunette, nearly black hair for a short time. Although it's not the best with her skin tone, it really makes her blue eyes pop. Or perhaps there's another reason for that! Compared to just a year before, her eyes definitely look more wide-open, without as much skin on the upper lids.... which leads me to believe she had a surgical procedure.

Then, in 2013, she lightened her hair a few notches to a medium golden brown. Maybe it's because I'm so used to seeing her as a blonde, but I don't think I'd have recognized her. This photo also gives us a good look at her new, petite nose. The work is very skilled—I would never guess she wasn't born with it.
This shot was taken only a few weeks before Jennifer would take home an Academy Award for her role in Silver Linings Playbook. You'd think she might be toning down the lip fillers so as not to look obvious—but that doesn't appear to be the case. At the time, I guess we were all paying too much attention to Kylie Jenner's changing lips to notice that other celebs were dabbling with injections, too!

And then, Jen shocked her fans by chopping her long hair into this short pixie (which always seems to be a rite of passage with young celebs). At the time, she explained that her hair was "fried," "annoying," and "couldn't get any uglier"—hence, she cut it all off. With her new look, she got more experimental with makeup (for example, these smoky eyes with a dab of pink at the inner corners).

By the time the Oscars rolled around, Jen's hair was starting to grow out, so she went with understated glam. If this styling doesn't say "A-list," I don't know what does! She has always had nice skin, but it is especially beautiful here, with everything stripped back. And I'm obsessed with the eyeliner application—that takes skill!

At the end of the year, Jen's hair was long enough to put up, although she may have also got little help from extensions. Her big, pouty lips were also back, and now the top one has overtaken the bottom one in size! With just a nude, shimmery shadow, you can clearly see how her eyelids aren't as hooded.

This shoulder-grazing blonde lob was Jennifer's signature look in 2015, worn here with the textured waves that were trending at the time. She was 25 by this point, and there's a sense that she's finally settled into her features as well as hit her stride on the red carpet. Our JLaw is all grown up!

Another year, another Oscars—but when Jen showed up this time, there was a lot of speculation about her "new face." To me, her lips look natural, but the way her cheeks are projecting suggests she may have topped up her injections there. She could do it on the DL in 2011, but now that she's under a microscope, these things get noticed!
Jennifer in 2017
The following year, Jennifer embraced a more laid-back, Boho vibe, and I love it. I'm pretty sure this is her real hair now, no extensions, with her natural wave and a more realistic shade of blonde. I also think we've found the smoking gun with respect to her suspected eyelid surgery. Look closely and you can actually see a tiny scar!

But it was back to the bold eye makeup—as well as bold lips—in 2018, with her most dramatic red carpet look yet. I'm not sure if it's the eyeshadow, her tight updo, or something more permanent that is causing her eyes to have a pulled-up look a la Bella Hadid.

That brings us to Jen's most recent red carpet appearance, for which she paired an undone wavy updo with copious amounts of copper shadow, all the way around her eyes. Something about the way her lips are pursed suggests some tinkering there (which can restrict movement). Plus, she doesn't have a single line on her forehead, which is unusual.
Jennifer Lawrence Before and After
Jennifer Lawrence may be the most "relatable" celeb, but she's no different than our other Before & After subjects. Just like them, she's also changed her facial features—but has been lucky enough to fly under the radar.
I don't know about you, but I was surprised to see so many examples of her looking different, almost unrecognizable, in the early years. So which procedures do the pros think she had done?
"I believe she may have benefitted from a well performed rhinoplasty," says Dr. Adam Schaffner in an interview with Radar Online. She likely also gets "Botox to smooth her forehead and lift her eyebrows" and "injectable filler in her lips, giving her a nice plump pout," adds Dr. Anthony Youn.
As for her cheeks, "There's a high probability that she's had a facial slimming procedure [such as] buccal fat removal," says Dr. Tim Sayed. But that's not all. In an interview with OK!, Dr. Susan Evans says, "She looks as if she's gotten cheek implants, and removed the buccal pad, [and] thinned out her cheeks."
Dr. Sayed also agrees with me about the blepharoplasty procedure, which removes excess skin and fat from the eyelids. "Eyelid surgery could have opened up her eyes, as there is a noticeable difference in the shape of her eyes in comparison with the older photos."
Whatever work was done since JLaw skyrocketed to stardom, it's clear that it was GOOD work. These days, nothing about her looks artificial, which is how it should be!
