Kids' Choice Awards 2016

At this year's Kids' Choice Awards—held on Saturday night in Los Angeles—the defining beauty look was all about nude lips, tawny eyeshadow, long lashes and loose waves.

Let's discuss the top hair and makeup moments!

Zendaya

Wowza, this is the freshest and dewiest I've ever seen Zendaya's skin! Her makeup is always so heavy and theatrical, it's lovely to see her in girly flushed cheeks, sheer pink gloss and subtle strobing for a change. The faux bob is stiff but still pretty cute—again, it's much more low-key than her usual wigs. But I'm not a fan of the "Instagram brow" trend, which shows no sign of letting up!

Sabrina Carpenter

Although it's a neutral colour, Sabrina's eyeshadow is unexpectedly bold—a dark copper in a rounded shape that extends above the crease and underneath the lower lid. I like that she let it stand alone, pairing it with full brows, minimal lashes and bare-ish lips. I'm just not sure if the colour is doing much for Sabrina's skin tone; she looks very washed out. I'd like a kiss of blush and more dewy skin.

Dove Cameron

Dove is so ethereally pretty, it's hard not to swoon over her almost translucent skin and ultra-blonde straight hair. For me, the standouts here are her glowy cheeks and full but perfectly groomed brows. I'm just not sure about the ginormous false lashes!

Yara Shahidi

You know it—I'm obsessed with Yara's flawless complexion. I love that she wore it with a big, off-the-face wavy ponytail, delicate kitten liner and understated lashes, so nothing competes. Clean and beautiful!

Sarah Hyland

Look, Sarah has a new hair colour! It's a bit too dark and cool-toned—I'd prefer a medium warm brown—but it definitely suits her skin tone better than when she went blonde. The textured bob is edgy, and doesn't quite go with the heavily curled false lashes. But I love the gold eyeshadow and her skin looks great.

Peyton List

Even with makeup on top of makeup, I like Peyton's look. It's probably her plump, smooth cheeks, which are the perfect canvas for blush and highlighter. Also, her hair colour; I always appreciate seeing darker blondes. I think the general idea here of peachy tones on lips and lids was the right direction... it's just the eyeliner is way too heavy-handed.

Paris Berelc

Now here's an example of warm tones executed perfectly. Similar to Peyton, Paris chose a peachy-brown palette for lips, cheeks and lids. The effect is super-harmonious, and looks amazing with her untamed brows and long, straight, highlighted hair.

Heidi Klum

Heidi has lightened up her look lately—she's not wearing as much self-tanner or makeup anymore—and I love it. Yes, she's still wearing her favourite bottom false lashes, but her skin looks so clear and dewy (like she's not even wearing foundation). As for her hair, I think this blonde is too light for her skin tone.

Keke Palmer

Keke's makeup is cool and interesting, but not overdone. I'm mesmerized by her multi-tonal eyeshadow with little purple highlights at the centre of each lid—and it was so creative to pair that with a creamy, shimmery light red on the lips. Purple and red FTW! The choppy bangs keep the focus on her eyes.

Debby Ryan

Debby's makeup is flawless, as far as I'm concerned—and yes, this even includes the lashes! They work because they look more artistic and fluttery than the usual falsie jobs we see, and make a deliberate statement. I love the pink lips and her warm hair colour, too.

Chloe Bennet

Chloe's half-back textured lob is a nice casual look, especially with her subtle makeup. The emphasis is on her darkened brows, and they're well-balanced by brown shadow on her upper lids only, and a pretty nude lipstick. See how people are wearing less and less blush? The only thing I'm not loving are the lashes.

Meghan Trainor

Meghan is still rocking the red hair she debuted at the Grammys. I quite like her texture here—as if she undid a couple braids—and the soft half-up style. I also like the soft wash of pink shadow, but the false lashes aren't my favourite.

Which celeb had your favourite (and least favourite) beauty look on this red carpet?
