From Make Up For Ever to Sisley: 10 of the Best New Beauty Products

Cream eyeshadows, blush sticks and more.

Summer is officially here, and so are some amazing new beauty products!

Usually, lipsticks are the most common new launches to cross my desk—but not this month. Instead, it's all about warm-weather finds such as:

  • Creamy, waterproof eyeshadows
  • Universally flattering cream blush sticks
  • The ultimate tinted brow mascara
  • A face palette to end all palettes
  • Insanely quick-drying top coat
  • And more!

Here are the 10 best new beauty releases hitting stores right now:

Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Color Paint Shadow

Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Color Paint Shadows in I-80, M-56, I-50 and I-42.

I'm not really a powder eyeshadow person, so when I heard about Make Up For Ever's Aqua XL Color Paint Shadows, I KNEW they'd be right up my alley. These are creamy, waterproof colours, so you don't have to worry about creasing... and they're easily applied with your fingers!

There are 20 shades in matte, satin and shimmer finishes. I tried the neutrals: I-80 (iridescent pink beige), M-56 (matte taupe), I-50 (iridescent warm beige) and I-42 (iridescent copper gold). All so good, especially the shimmers! These pack a lot of pigment, so even though the tubes are small, you just need a tiny dab.

Sisley Phyto-Blush Twist

Sisley Phyto-Blush Twists in Papaya, Petal and Fuchsia.

Oh, luxury-brand blush sticks, it is so hard to resist you! Sisley's Phyto-Blush Twist is my latest blush crush, and what's inside is as good as the outer zebra packaging promises. (Zebra!) I knew it would be, since I was such a fan of their matching Lip Twist when it came out a few years ago.

This is a cream-to-powder blush, so the benefit is that it glides and blends like a cream, but then sets with the staying power of a powder. There are three shades: Papaya is a coral and probably the most "universal"; Petal is a peachy-pink best for light-to-medium skin; and Fuchsia is the boldest shade, a hot pink. I can wear all three because they're so easily sheered out, so it's a pretty versatile shade line-up. Definitely one of the best cream blushes I've tried!

Chanel Le Gel Sourcils Longwear Eyebrow Gel

Chanel Le Gel Sourcils Longwear Eyebrow Gel in Blond, Brun and Transparent.

Of all the brow mascaras that have crossed my desk, Chanel's Le Gel Sourcils Longwear Eyebrow Gel just might be the BEST. And I don't say that lightly. As you might recall, I've been a devoted Brow Drama user for years, topping up my fans with Couture Brow or Eyeko... but the Chanel could very well replace them all (which will be an expensive habit, but it's that good!).

It comes in three shades (clear, blonde and brown) and imparts both soft control and subtle texture—without the usual issues of feeling crispy or looking heavy. The smaller brush size is easy to maneuver and the colours look super-natural, not too warm.

Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette

Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette.

I know we all have palette fatigue at this point... but when Charlotte Tilbury does one, you pay attention! I see the Instant Look in a Palette as what the concept used to be about, before things got crazy and they started coming out with palettes entirely devoted to single body parts. (Does anyone need a 10-shade cheek-contouring palette? No!)

This is different because it's giving you a completely goof-proof, colour-coordinating selection of powder shades to do your entire face. It includes three shadows, two blushes, a bronzer and a highlighter, so it's all you need for a five-minute makeup—just add foundation, mascara and lipstick and you're good to go. The tones can easily go from day to night and are typical Charlotte: sophisticated, glowy and sexy.

Essie Speed Setter Ultra Fast Dry Top Coat

Essie Speed Setter Ultra Fast Dry Top Coat.

Where has Essie Speed Setter Ultra Fast Dry Top Coat been all my life? This is a new clear top coat that dries your nails in less than one minute. One minute!

In my testing so far, that's accurate. I'm always one to mess up my polish mere moments after applying it, but incredibly, this dries so fast that I didn't get a chip or smudge despite really banging one nail. It may not be as glossy or as long-lasting as other top coats, but the trade-off is well worth it, in my opinion!

NARS Liquid Blush

NARS Liquid Blushes in Dolce Vita, Luster, Torrid and Orgasm.

It's hard to believe NARS Liquid Blush only just came into existence! You'd think they'd have launched it ages ago, considering the blockbuster success of Orgasm, first released in 1999. But better late than never—this is the brand's first liquid-textured blush.

The four shades (which include Orgasm, natch) have a thin, fluid texture and are really, really pigmented. So much so that I think they work best on medium and dark skin tones. Two of the colours (Orgasm and Torrid) are shimmery, one (Dolce Vita) is matte, and one (Luster) has a golden iridescence. Sadly, my pale self can only get away with Luster, the sheerest, buffed out with a brush. But they're gorgeous for skin that can handle strong colour, and the staying power is insane!

Artdeco Lash & Line Duo

Artdeco Lash & Line Duo in Black, White and Electric Blue.

Remember when Stella McCartney sent her models out with electric-blue lashes at the fall 2012 show? (Anyone?) Five years on, I STILL love that look, especially for summer, and the Artdeco Lash & Line Duo is the product that comes closest to giving it to us.

Fittingly, the shade name is Electric Blue, and it's a super-pigmented, volumizing mascara that delivers a dramatic blue fringe. On the other end is a matching kajal liner, so you can amp up your eyes even more by adding colour in the waterlines. It also comes in Black and White (with black mascara).

Marc Jacobs Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter

Marc Jacobs Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter.

If you love the "strobed" look—with gleaming luminizer on all the high points of your face—then the Marc Jacobs Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter might be for you. Emphasis on the gleaming. This is a warm golden peach highlighter with fine, bright shimmer. It's Living Luminizer on steroids.

In other words, the shine isn't meant to look natural—and after giving this a go, I can see the appeal, even though it's a bit outside my comfort zone. It really makes your features pop! And since it's really concentrated, in a foundation-sized bottle, you're actually getting quite good value. It would take me years to even make a dent in it!

That said, I'm not sure about mixing it with foundation or primer, as they suggest. Too glittery, at least for day, and I think all that shimmer tends to emphasize pores, flaws, etc. But I do like it, used sparingly, for dramatic nighttime highlights!

Chanel Ombre Première Longwear Powder Eyeshadow

Chanel Ombre Première Longwear Powder Eyeshadows in Blue Jean, Chocolate Brown, Flesh and Talpa.

Who's ready for eyeshadow singles again? I know I am! They've fallen out of favour during the palette craze of the last few years, but Chanel is bringing them back with the Ombre Première Longwear Powder Eyeshadows.

These are exceptional. If you're like me and find powders hard to work with, you will be so impressed at their ease of application. The textures are so buttery and blendable, and there's just the right amount of pigment—you can't screw up! Of the 16 shades (with varying finishes), I tried Blue Jean, Chocolate Brown, Flesh and Talpa. That last one's my favourite—the most gorgeous understated taupe!

Delectable by Cake Beauty The Everything Powder

Delectable by Cake Beauty The Everything Powder.

If you're travelling this summer and want to cut down on your number of beauty products, consider Delectable by Cake Beauty The Everything Powder. It's a corn starch- and aloe vera-based powder that you can use in 21 different ways.

So it's a dry shampoo, mattifying powder, deodorizer, irritation-soother, chafing-preventor, shoe-freshener and more. I've steered clear of body powders due to concerns about talc, but this one is talc-free, paraben-free and petroleum-free. And it smells amazing!
