New Skincare for July 2020
Glossier Priming Moisturizer Balance Oil-Control Gel Cream
Glossier Priming Moisturizer Balance Oil-Control Gel Cream is the gel-cream version of the brand's popular Priming Moisturizer (reviewed here). As such, it is ideal for oily skin, and helps to control shine and reduce the look of pores thanks to marine extract, niacinamide and willow bark. It's also oil-free, low in silicone and leaves skin mattified but not dull or powdery.
Drunk Elephant E-Rase Milki Micellar Water
Drunk Elephant E-Rase Milki Micellar Water is a moisturizing micellar cleanser that removes dirt, pollution and makeup—no rinsing required. Not only is it made with cleaner ingredients than most products of this type, it's also more nourishing because of the various oils and ceramides. (That's why it's milky, rather than clear.) I'd use this as the first step in your nightly double cleansing routine.
Pixi Clarity Tonic
Pixi Clarity Tonic is a clarifying version of the cult classic Glow Tonic, and it's all about clearing acne breakouts and helping pores to look smaller. This is an exfoliating toner that contains a blend of glycolic, salicylic and lactic acids to remove dead skin cells and deep-clean pores. However, it's gentle enough to use as often as twice daily.
Indie Lee Banish Solution
Indie Lee Banish Solution is replacing the brand's OG Blemish Lotion, with updated packaging and a minor tweak to the ingredients list. This is a talc-free spot treatment that dries out pimples with colloidal sulfur, kaolin clay and salicylic acid, while zinc oxide calms inflammation. To apply it, you just dip a cotton swab into the solution (don't shake it) and dot it on, leaving overnight.
Pixi Clarity Concentrate
Pixi Clarity Concentrate is a lightweight clarifying serum with exfoliating, hydrating and pore-refining benefits. While aloe, glycerin and propanediol deliver oil-free moisture, the glycolic, lactic and salicylic acids gently exfoliate. It also has hyaluronic acid and niacinamide for further plumping and smoothing, and is silicone-free.
Dr Dennis Gross Acne Eliminating Gel
Dr Dennis Gross Acne Eliminating Gel is a gel-based acne solution with two percent salicylic acid plus niacinamide to reduce oil and redness. This one is not just a spot treatment, as you can apply it all over affected areas. Just be sure to follow up with a good hydrator, as it is high in alcohol (to enhance penetration).
Pixi Clarity Lotion
Pixi Clarity Lotion is an oil-free and silicone-free moisturizer for all skin types, especially oily and combination skin. Some of its lightweight hydrating ingredients include glycerin, aloe, niacinamide and hyaluronic acid, plus ceramides to help strengthen the skin barrier. Unlike the other acid-based products in the range, this one only contains ultra-gentle willow bark.
Tarte Knockout Brightening Gel Moisturizer
Tarte Knockout Brightening Gel Moisturizer is a lightweight, fast-absorbing gel hydrator comprised of 20 percent fruit and plant extracts. While its sister product, the Knockout Tingling Treatment, is beloved for its multiple acids, this product takes a much milder approach to brightening by using papaya extract instead. It's also oil-free and low in silicone.
bareMinerals Skinlongevity Long Life Herb Anti-Aging Face Serum
bareMinerals Skinlongevity Long Life Herb Anti-Aging Face Serum promises to strengthen your skin barrier by 45 percent, making it more resilient to free radicals and other environmental damage. The secret is Long Life Herb (a.k.a. chomesio), a mineral-rich superfood from Okinawa, Japan—where people live longer and look younger. It's also packed with niacinamide and ascorbyl glucoside.
Pixi Clarity Cleanser
Pixi Clarity Cleanser is a sulfate-free gel cleanser for all skin types. As we saw with the Clarity Tonic and the Clarity Concentrate, it contains a blend of acids—but since you're rinsing it off, they won't have as much time to work. Still, this is a fine option for anyone seeking an affordable basic cleanser.
BYBI Acid Gold AHA Face Mask
BYBI Acid Gold AHA Face Mask is an exfoliating mask with a jelly texture and a golden hue (thanks to enzyme-rich pumpkin fruit). The AHAs are all naturally-derived, and include lactic acid from bilberry, glycolic acid from sugar cane, and malic and tartaric acids from sugar maple. You're meant to leave it on for up to 15 minutes for a brightening and smoothing boost.
Tarte Sea Wink of H2O Vegan Collagen Eye Cream
Tarte Sea Wink of H2O Vegan Collagen Eye Cream is a lightweight eye cream that targets fine lines, dark circles and puffiness. The all-vegan ingredients list features peptides, caffeine, shea butter and marine plants (plus silicone, which is usually okay around the eyes). It also has "hydroflex" technology, making it a crease-resistant base for makeup.
Kopari Hydrating Body Wash
Kopari Hydrating Body Wash is a moisturizing shower gel spiked with skin-softening ingredients like aloe vera, coconut water and sea kelp. Despite being sulfate-free, it produces a rich lather, and leaves your skin lightly scented of coconut milk.
Sunday Riley Charcoal Smoothie Jelly Body Scrub
Sunday Riley Charcoal Smoothie Jelly Body Scrub smooths away rough patches anywhere on your body, using both physical and chemical exfoliants. They include a biodegradable wax and salicylic acid, plus activated charcoal to draw out impurities. While you scrub, it also replenishes moisture with manuka honey and jojoba oil.
Kosas Chemistry AHA Serum Deodorant
Kosas Chemistry AHA Serum Deodorant is a new take on natural deodorant. Rather than deodorizing with baking soda (or worse, aluminum!), it balances your armpits' pH levels with a blend of AHAs (including mandelic, lactic and tartaric acids). Choose from Fragrance Free or the spa-like Serene Clean.
