SAG Awards 2019: The Best Skin, Hair and Makeup Looks on the Red Carpet
Awards season continues with the third red carpet event of the year—the annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (affectionately known as "the SAGs").
Here are the must-see celebrity beauty looks:
Laura Harrier
Laura is quickly becoming a new favourite of mine for her clean, pretty red carpet style. This hot pink lipstick looks amazing with baby cat eyes, feathered brows, fresh skin and soft hair.
Laura is wearing: Lip liner in Fuchsia • Lipstick in Infrarose • Lipstick in Volupté
Lucy Boynton
I love that Lucy took a risk with her makeup, in such a whimsical way! Her makeup artist described this floating graphic eyeliner as "minimalist Goth punk"—and it definitely edges up the romantic dress and velvet ribbon in her hair. The lip colour and blurred texture are perfection.
Lucy is wearing: Eyeliner in Noir • Mascara • Brow gel • Lipstick in Love
Emily Blunt
Finally, Emily wore some colour! This Pepto-Bismol pink is super flattering with her skin tone, and I'm glad she did a matchy-matchy lipstick in the same shade. Simple hair and fluffy lashes complete the look.
Emily is wearing: Lipstick in Close Up
Lupita Nyong’o
The creative beauty looks keep on coming from Lupita! I'm mesmerized by the glittery pink liner underneath her eyes, the red lip gloss and the cool braids. (Very Zoë Kravitz.) And it's crazy how her skin just glows from within.
Lupita is wearing: Eyeshadow • Eyeliner in Brique • Lipstick in Absolute Rouge • Lip gloss in Be Brilliant
Emma Stone
I'm enjoying this look more than Emma's pinky-nude palette at the Globes. She looks confident and relaxed. The wavy updo is super cute and effortless, and I like the Ombré shading on her glossy berry lips.
Emma is wearing: Lip liner in Burgundy (all over lips) • Lipstick in Orange Sevilla
Yara Shahidi
I'm not crazy about the high-necked dress, but I love Yara's curls and monochromatic pink makeup. (The eyeshadow is actually lipstick!) Her skin looks so smooth and healthy.
Yara is wearing: Lipstick in Rebel Rose (on eyes) • Blush in Pale Pink (on eyes and cheeks) • Lipstick in Haute Cocoa
Elisabeth Moss
Aside from the fact that this hairstyle doesn't go with the dress, I think Elisabeth looks great. I love that the makeup is a little bit rock 'n' roll, with reverse smoky eyes in a deep green instead of black. (You can really see the colour here!)
Elisabeth is wearing: Eyeshadow in Mellow Shade • Eyeliner in Trinidad Black
Rachel Brosnahan
Rachel has the best smoky eyes we've seen so far this awards season. The blending is incredible, and they're framed by perfectly feathery brows. I think slightly lighter brown hair would look softer on her.
Amy Adams
This is classic Amy, and much better than her Globes and Critics' Choice looks. The controlled, voluminous updo is the best part, and so elegant. I also like the bolder lashes, and the rosy cheeks and lips.
Julia Garner
I always love orange lipstick on blondes, and this one especially pops with Julia's turquoise dress. The textured bob and generous dusting of gold glitter eyeshadow keep this from looking too retro. She has great brows, but I'm not sure what is going on with her lips. Whether makeup or injections, the top one is unnaturally bigger-looking.
Julia is wearing: Eyeshadow in Deep • Lip liner in Désir • Lipstick in First Light
Alison Brie
Alison's dress seems more like something you'd wear to the Met Gala! But I do think this makeup is better than her usual. I really like her long, soft lashes, and the liner along the bottom lash lines. I'd just make the brows more natural.
Rachel Weisz
Rachel is gorgeous, but I don't think this was the right dress for her. With the updo and low-key makeup, it just feels really plain. I do like the winged liner, strong brows and lip colour, but with a more colourful, feminine dress.
Mandy Moore
Usually, I love Mandy, but I find this very harsh. I'd be okay with the heavy liner if it weren't for the false lashes (which really cheapen it) and pointy brows. I think the hair colour and style is a little severe on her, too. (But the ponytail was amazing from the back!)
Sophia Bush
On the one hand, Sophia's eyeliner is kind of cool. She's never afraid to experiment, and this peach shadow-navy liner combo is definitely interesting. The problem is the dated bouffant updo and headband!
Constance Wu
This is really underwhelming (and even she looks uncomfortable!). I think Constance needs brighter colours—for both wardrobe and makeup—and more modern styling. The hair is messy and the makeup is heavy-handed.
Lady Gaga
This is my least favourite of the awards show looks Lady Gaga has served up so far. I'm just not down with this bleached, shellacked hair and the heavy, vampy makeup. I know she always has to be different, but wouldn't a bare-faced look be even more unexpected?
