SAG Awards 2021: The Best Skin, Hair and Makeup Moments (as Seen on Instagram)
In the past, celebrities prepped for the red carpet knowing they'd be photographed in unforgiving HD. Now, it's all about looking good on Zoom and Instagram—as was the case at last night's SAG Awards.
Just like the Golden Globes and Critics' Choice Awards, the ceremony took place virtually rather than in person. So with the help of their glam squads, the attendees got dressed up at home, and then documented their looks for us (plus the products used) on social media.
Here are the beauty highlights from the big night.
Vanessa Kirby
Could Vanessa be any more flawless?! First of all, I'm blown away by her perfect skin... and then I'm drawn to the expertly applied makeup. Just look at the precise edges on that red lip, and how defined her lashes are. I also love the full but soft brows, and that luminous highlight at the inner corners of her eyes. This might be my favourite look of awards season so far!
Vanessa is wearing: Face mist • Eye serum • Face oil • Highlighter in Atomic (under foundation) • Foundation • Concealer • Blush in Tenderly • Illuminator in Polka Dots & Moonbeams (as eyeshadow) • Eyeliner in Twilight • Mascara in After Midnight • Lip mask • Lipstick in Rumba and Tango • Powder in Fade Into You (to mattify lips)
Helen Mirren
Helen rocked one of the most playful, youthful looks we've ever seen on her: bold brows and a ballerina bun with a fun, colour-blocked dress. I appreciate that the makeup isn't super saturated—she went sheer on her lips, and kept the eyes soft and smudgy.
Helen is wearing: Moisturizer • Eye cream • Foundation in Natural Buff • Concealer in Warm Beige • Powder • Blush in Mauved • Eyeshadow in Matte-ison Avenue • Eyeliner in Brown • Liquid liner in Black • Mascara in Black • Brow pencil • Brow pen • Lip liner in Bold Orchid • Lipstick in Pink Petal
Kerry Washington
Just before jumping in the water, Kerry posed in the most glamorous poolside ensemble I've seen (complete with swim cap!). While she matched her nail polish to her blue gown, she chose purple for her eye shadow, along with a peach lipstick. The exceedingly well-blended contour makes her cheekbones pop.
Kerry is wearing: Concealer • Mascara
Jamie Chung
Jamie stayed in her comfort zone with big, brushed out waves, smoky eyes and peachy lips and cheeks—all of which dial down the drama of her fire-engine red dress. I'm also loving this lighter brown hair colour on her, with face-framing lighter pieces.
Jamie is wearing: Eyeshadow • Liquid liner in Cobalt Blue • Mascara • Brow mascara in Parisienne Chocolate • Lipstick in New York Nude
Kaley Cuoco
Kaley wore the exact type of look I've come to associate with the SAG Awards: bright colour, glowing skin and dramatic details (like the oversized rosette on her dress). The top knot, matchy-matchy fuchsia lips and rosy cheeks are effortless and feminine. The only thing I'd change is feathering out the brows.
Kaley is wearing: Serum • Moisturizer • Eye cream • Neck cream • Primer in Universal Light • Blurring primer (on T-zone) • Foundation in 111N • Concealer in 02 • Powder • Highlighter in Pinky Shine • Blush in Glowy Pink (on cheeks and as eyeshadow) • Contour in Golden Peach • Setting spray • Eyeshadow palette in Fairy Tale Nude Gradation (pink shade) • Mascara in Black • Brow powder and gel in Tawny Blond • Top coat (on lashes and brows) • Lip balm • Lipstick in Intense Fuchsia • Lipstick in Hot Pink
Jurnee Smollett
Jurnee didn't hold back on the glam, serving up a set of 360-degree cat eyes to go with her ornate necklace and plunging neckline. With so much going on, I love that she wore her hair slicked back and off her face. The flushed cheeks and rosy lips are pretty and understated.
Jurnee is wearing: Foundation in BD51 • Blush and highlighter in Fleurs de Printemps • Blush in Rouge Profond • Illuminator in Perles de Lumière • Eyeshadow in Clair-Obscur • Eyeshadow/eyeliner in Electric Brown • Eyeliner in Hyperblack • Mascara in Noir • Lip liner in Nude Brun • Lipstick in Chance and Glow
Abbey Lee Kershaw
Leave it to the ex-supermodel to take the best photo, with the best lighting! Abbey Lee enhanced her iconic features with black liner blended into her waterlines and extended out, plus rose lipstick with overdrawn edges. Her hair is combed over in that '80s flip that is making a comeback lately.
Abbey Lee is wearing: Moisturizer • Illuminator in Pearly Glow • Foundation in B20 • Concealer in 20 • Powder in No. 20 • Blush in Rose Bronze • Highlighter in Perles de Lumière • Highlighter in Transparent • Contour in Contour Clair • Eyeshadow in Clair-Obscur • Eyeliner in Noir • Eyeliner in Hyperblack • Mascara in Noir • Brow pencil in Brun Clair • Lip liner in Nude Brun • Lipstick in Still
Amy Adams
Amy is wearing her signature red hair a little shorter these days, which gives her favourite side-parted waves a fresh update. Flushed cheeks, baby-pink lips and black liner complete the look, along with a fun hit of colour from her green earrings. I just feel like this needed a more interesting dress!
Amy is wearing: Antioxidant serum • Hydrating serum • Gel moisturizer • Foundation • Concealer • Powder • Bronzer • Setting spray • Eyeshadow in Suede and Cinnamon • Eyeliner in Metallic Mink • Mascara in Glossy Black • Lip liner in Buff • Lip liner in Hush Hush • Lip gloss in Dahlia
Mindy Kaling
As we saw at last year's Oscars, Mindy can pull off bright colours, and this vibrant blue is no exception. Rather than overwhelming her, it actually makes her skin glow. I'm glad she kept to a neutral makeup palette instead of adding a competing shade, but the hair seems somewhat matronly. I would've preferred some sort of top knot!
Mindy is wearing: Serum • Moisturizer • Foundation in Tan 460, Dark 510 and Dark 520 • Concealer in Dark 1 • Powder • Blush in Umber • Eyeliner in Black • Mascara • Brow pencil in Dark • Brow mascara in Dark • Lipstick in Raisin • Lip gloss in Clove
Lily Collins
While Lily was all '70s glam at the Golden Globes, she reverted back to the 1960s with this prim-and-proper look. Wearing her hair straight and behind her shoulders shows off all the beading, while muted pinks and purples on her lips and lids echo the tones of her dress.
