Q: First off, thank you SO much for this fantastic service. Expert tips from the man behind Michelle's gorgeous hair? Yes please!
I'm looking for advice on how to perk up my bland hair cut and colour. This photo shows a regular hair day for me: mostly smooth and voluminous with random curls and waves throughout. Totally manageable but also totally boring.
My medium-textured hair generally does what I want it to—brushing it smooths the curls into waves, and with heat, it'll hold a curl and stay straight (though that does *not* look cute). I have good hair and a bad hair style. My present cut does nothing for me and I'm tired my faded natural hair colour, but can't decide whether to go darker or get balayage/Ombré.
What I really want is super-sexy Victoria's Secret hair that suits my three-finger forehead. A few years ago I had an asymmetrical lob that I loved, but I'm not ready to go back to short hair. What do you think, Bill? Could I have the hair of an Angel? — Katrina
A: Okay, Katrina, your natural beauty is already Angelic…
I also understand the problem of having the most beautiful hair in the world and not having it look on the outside the way that you are feeling it on inside.
Distribution, parting and styling are always the challenge to acquire a new look.
Here, you can see how parting your hair at the highest part of your forehead elongates the face:
Then I would add a few inches to the length of your hair and some long layers.
Then comes the styling. Use some rollers for redirecting the wave and to create the swishy movement that Angels have.
- Hot rollers or velcro rollers work best on dry hair, misted lightly with setting lotion or hairspray.
- Apply heat from your blowdryer to help set the curls.
- Spray the curlers one more time with hairspray at this point.
- Let dry before removing.
The way this works is the heat softens the hair, and it is the cooling action that keeps the curl. Patience is necessary with this technique.
I am not at all interested in considering you as a blonde.
A problem that dark brunette Angels have is that there is very little depth in the colour. This makes it dense and does not show off the layers as well as hair that is slightly highlighted.
With strategically placed lighter pieces, you will enhance the look of movement.
